So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

@Alakazam8 you do know you are only moving to the more stressful waiting room after the recalls😂

Nothing here and I’m convinced we are a lost no again as his audition was on the 29th. Who says lightening doesn’t strike twice!

Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 14:55

Congratulations to all those who’ve heard this afternoonSmile

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2022 14:59

Eek, don't shut the waiting room. DS is hoping to hear if anyone gets sent any recall materials!

Anyway we will need somewhere to lurk this time next week...

dancingclassicist · 15/02/2022 15:04

Yep defo in the waiting room for recall materials. Anyone whos had recalls before what kind of stuff is it to prepare? DD frantically revising for mocks next week plus drama school auditions so hopefully wont be too much…!

Alakazam8 · 15/02/2022 15:04

Oops forgot about that. I’m so pleased dd has got through to this stage I didn’t really think about the next bit!! Rookie mistake!

Triflefan · 15/02/2022 15:07

Still waiting here but I expected to be. DS was late to the party

For the online recalls it was a choice of scripts and then a vocal range test. When it was in the room they had a couple of scripts and a choice of songs to prepare from memory
Triflefan · 15/02/2022 15:10

Not to prepare from memory! I meant that's what I remember

dancingclassicist · 15/02/2022 15:13

@Triflefan thank you so much!!

Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 15:19

In 2020 each show had a link to a Dropbox which had the scripts and songs to learn. Some were split boys/girls and some split by age but the instructions were straight forward.

My son was recalled for a show which required dance skills and it had a routine and another show which the recall was more movement than dance. Both of these were taught on the day with nothing to learn in advance.

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2022 15:28

They don't usually expect you to learn the scripts, just be familiar and ready to read any part (sometimes very unlikely ones!). There will be a couple of songs to prepare, and again I don't think they need to be word perfect but they do need to know the song. I am starting to fret here as DS really has no more time after today as he's in a show, and we don't read music, and I have Covid so can't go near him to try to help!!

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2022 15:29

And yes there may well be some dance on the day - I think unlikely they will send a video to pre-learn now but i guess they might!

Triflefan · 15/02/2022 15:35

I'm sure there definitely is a dance element
Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 17:14

Just had a no- pretty disappointed that it’s taken so long but I suppose I didn’t need to chase this year.

allhailthebrain · 15/02/2022 17:17

There were dance elements both last year (online) and the year before in person. They do always teach you on the day, even if you do get a video to familiarise yourself.

Both times mine had to prepare a song from the musical - which was more difficult as it was the new musical so no soundtracks to listen to. They sent sheet music and a file of the tune being played etc the second time. I'm sure that the first time they didn't have the file of it being played. But even then they did teach them it on the day as well. Last year they had to submit that song as a self tape, along with one of the acting. But I suspect that won't be necessary with an in person recall.

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2022 17:28

Yes sorry, there will be dance in some form unless they have decided any of the shows have no dance at all.

@Mcmumager I'm really sorry to hear that. You'be had a difficult ride with NYMT and I wish the outcome for your DS had been different. It sounds as if he must be a talented boy and maybe Zoom just doesn't do him justice. I hope things are much more normal by next year.

allhailthebrain · 15/02/2022 18:08

I'm sorry to hear that @Mcmumager - it's so much harder by Zoom. I hope he's not too disappointed.

Alakazam8 · 15/02/2022 18:17

Sorry to hear your news @Mcmumager. Hope your ds isn’t too upset with not getting in.

minimits · 15/02/2022 18:25

Oh @Mcmumager I’m so sorry. I know how disappointed you and he must feel. DS got a no three times before he got in-don’t give up! It’s worth the perseverance x

Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 18:50

I think it’s just frustrating not to get to the in the room stage as he got that yes in 2020 and Kiss me Kate looked like such a fab show and he was so chuffed to get in so young.

He wouldn’t swap his time in BYMT last year for anything and there is a show with them he’d really like to do this year so fingers crossed.

Anyway he’s off to dress rehearsal now and will come home buzzing for the rest of show week so no time to be upset.

Biscuitsneeded · 15/02/2022 19:49

Glad he has other prospects to focus on @Mcmumager. Do please encourage him to try again when they can do in person auditions, and let us know what happens with BYMT!
@Triflefan, any news yet?

minimits · 15/02/2022 20:06

Absolutely agree @Mcmumager . DS is suffering through self-tapes and zoom for drama school auditions-desperately wishes he could just get in the room as feels he just doesn’t come over well on video/zoom. And must be so tough having got in before. He’s obviously very talented x

allhailthebrain · 15/02/2022 20:26

How old is he now @Mcmumager? He must have done very well to be cast in Kiss Me Kate as that was the older crew in the main!

His time will come, hope he gets the BYMT project he likes the sound of - has he already auditioned?

Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 20:27

I really do feel for those who’ve had to audition on line for schools- can’t imagine how tough that must be. These kids are performers they want an audience!!

Mcmumager · 15/02/2022 20:30

@allhailthebrain he was 14 when he was cast in kiss me Kate- seems so young now lol.

Yes BYMT audition done so it’s a waiting game again.
