So my last time of opening this thread - a place to share 😊

OP posts:
Stanilin · 01/10/2019 23:14

Just submitted our video, yay! We did a few "proper" takes on Sunday and one extra just in case on Monday before school. Of course this one turned out to be the best, so DS is in school uniform, no shoes on and the dog is strolling through the video as well. But at least it's done! How are you all getting on? Smile

violinmama · 02/10/2019 22:07

Well done Stanilin! We have an hour (max) with the accompanist on Sunday to get the pieces recorded 😬

folkmamma · 04/10/2019 20:07

DD2 video done and submitted! Phew!!! And now for the big long wait....

squintsoftheworldunite · 05/10/2019 05:05

We submitted one a while ago, we have the other to do. It’ll be a “one take” job, unless it goes badly wrong.

thirdfiddle · 06/10/2019 21:46

One interesting thing about video auditions, it will let teachers know exactly which performances do or don't get a place. I wonder if they'll get a lot more applicants.

ZakStarkey · 06/10/2019 23:49

I completely misread the video audition date and today realised that it’s Sunday!!! I thought it was the following Thursday.....so now we may not have an accompanist and we haven’t really practiced the excerpts till today....eek!

Luckyfab · 08/10/2019 09:28

My Dd is live auditioning today for U12
I hope her the best as she really wants to get a place. She says she had the best week of her life at U11 residential.

squintsoftheworldunite · 08/10/2019 14:05

Hope it goes well for her lucky

Luckyfab · 09/10/2019 12:21

@squintsoftheworldunite thank you!!!

thirdfiddle · 09/10/2019 17:05

Pressed send. There are fluffs still but feel like it's been a good experience and she'd had enough of the pieces.

New pieces time!

squintsoftheworldunite · 10/10/2019 20:02

We are done too now! It was good to be finished

MinnieMolly12345 · 11/10/2019 08:36

We've uploaded one video for DS2 - it wasn't perfect (far from it), but DS is reluctant to re-do it. He's definitely pleased to be moving onto his new pieces.

One more to go!

TrumpetVoluntary · 11/10/2019 09:59

DD has a live audition in half term. It will be very frustrating for her if she doesn’t play well on the day but I can see that video auditions are stressful too but in a different way! Good luck to everyone.

squintsoftheworldunite · 11/10/2019 12:28

Trumpet i think that the performance experience of live auditions is helpful to bringing the best out of them. I'm not sure they really get that feeling quite so much in the security of their familiar music lesson venue or whatever. We didn't do repeated takes etc, we did a "right, this is going to be the audition date... have a warm up, do the audition", trying to make it as realistic as possible for my kiddo. Neither were perfection but were generally a good representation and I felt they were as close to a genuine audition as we could get.... hard though as each option has benefits for different children!

MinnieMolly12345 · 13/10/2019 20:30

We've just submitted the 2nd video (for DS1) - again, it wasn't perfect but we're all relieved that it's done. Just have to wait for the results now.

Good luck everyone!

Karate1 · 18/10/2019 11:16

Hi everyone!
My DD has done her live audition.
She said the judges were very supportive and very good atmosphere. When I was in a parent waiting room, DD came back just 1 min after because she forgot to bring her music ( she only had excerpts parts)Confused.
DD doesn't talk about much about how it went(typical of her) but at least I know she enjoyed the audition!

DrJoUK · 23/11/2019 21:31

Hi.
Got an email from NCO yesterday about the regional orchestras. It is an unusual move from NCO from I can recall. It doesn't seem many have received one. Has any of you received the message too, please?

Luckyfab · 23/11/2019 22:39

@DrJoUK
Hi, I did receive the email about regionals and found it unusual myself. Do you think it means something?

DrJoUK · 23/11/2019 22:45

Thanks @Luckyfab. I'm really not sure. Was getting paranoid. I guess to keep positive, at least DD will have at a place as an associate member. The conductor for the South Westerlies is fantastic and the sectional tutor is great too. Also, it's kind of good to know what they are playing. Almost made me would if DD would jump ship so she can play some pieces. But no, she wants to stick with SW.

Musicdoc · 23/11/2019 22:47

We received an email too....my daughter auditioned on two instruments but only received one email. Maybe it means they will be getting at least a regional orchestra place (minimum) but I think they are just being organised and giving everyone info so they can sign up on 11th Dec. Which means we should have heard by then at the latest 🤞🏽🤞🏽

TrumpetVoluntary · 24/11/2019 09:55

We got an email too. I didn’t read anything into it - I assumed they were just sending everyone the information about regional orchestras as I doubt they have fully compiled the lists yet of who has been successful.

Stringchild · 24/11/2019 15:02

I assumed everyone had got one and It doesnt mean anything at all re likely results - just getting everyone ready to accept or decline regionals should they be offered them in a few weeks?

OP posts:
folkmamma · 24/11/2019 21:37

I definitely did not read this as an offer of associates - just sent out for info to make sure everyone was prepared after the upset last year. They put the same information out on Facebook later in the day. I'd be very surprised if everyone wasn't sent the email - more likely it went into junk boxes...

WChocolate · 24/11/2019 22:29

We didn't get any emailConfused.…what instruments your DCs have and which age group? My DC got violin and under 10……………

DrJoUK · 24/11/2019 22:59

Hi,
I am assuming (again, sorry about this) that they start with the older ones. My DD is for the U13. So many of her friends auditioned for the U13.
