Grade 5 theory

Just thought I'd start a thread for all those taking grade 5 theory next week.
I've taught DS for it, as I've taken my own pupils through it previously, but it's been surprisingly hard work - maybe because we've tried to do a crash course (I usually spend a couple of terms of more when teaching pupils), or maybe just because teaching your own child is just harder!
He's capable of doing ok, but massively under-practised so I'm worried he'll make silly mistakes, and his actual note writing is scruffy. We haven't looked at terms, other than those he already knows, and certainly no German ones!

Anyone else looking forward to it being over???

@Alsoplayspiccolo Thank you. 🤞

Trumpet, DS got full marks on a lot of sections but managed to drop 2 on the writing out of scales section, which I suspect was a neatness issue too - I teased him that that was lost him the distinction! His handwriting isn't great, as he has hypermobility in his hands and fingers.

Oh yes this was where ds lost 2 marks too !! Rest of it was fine Smile

Got his result verbally tonight- only cos the piano teacher jumped into us out and about !!! Angry

Anyway, it was worth waiting on. Thanks for the thread - was good to have company through the experience!

Interesting seeing the breakdown for the grade 5 results - 98% and lost 2 marks on intervals (got every one right in all the practice papers!!)... one cross 12 year old child! Our 9 yr old dd got 87% at grade 5 so pretty happy there, although made quite a few 'silly mistakes' by the look of the breakdown - just shows that maturity and coping with exam conditions comes with age! Thrilled with results!
