Hi, have just joined here so hope I am posting in the correct place. Just wondering if anyone here has a child auditioning for NYMT or similar groups this year.
My DD (age 11 ) is auditioning next sunday

Dancing he did Imaginary in the afternoon! So I guess at least 7 groups... don't know how many were in his group though.

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2017 11:19

Dancing, last year we did have to pick DS up in between. They actually got a day off before moving to the venue for tech rehearsals. You would get all that sort of info quite quickly though. Also, older kids or those who lived further away didn't necessarily go home, but stayed with friends.

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2017 11:26

Think there were a lot of kids recalled for Honk yesterday. Not so many for Imaginary.

Dancingdaughters · 19/02/2017 11:45

Biscuits mmmm that would prove difficult as we are on hols in Scotland. Oh well. I guess if she gets in we can worry about the logistics then!

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2017 12:31

She would have the Easter residential to make a good friend she could stay with! Or you rope in a friend/relative add to do the pick up. Cross that bridge if you come to it!

Dancingdaughters · 19/02/2017 13:07

That's true. I have a habit of overthinking and over forward planning! It's a wonder we leave the house sometimes!!

Pinkstargazer12 · 19/02/2017 16:00

My daughter came away happy. She was just recalled for Honk and was comfortable with the tap dancing. She did say some children were really unhappy as they only got to sing a few bars from the songs whereas others were asked to sing 2 songs. Likewise only 8 out of the group were asked to read the script. It sounds to me like they were restricted timewise and had to make some tough decisions early. Anyone else's child had the same for Honk?

Biscuitsneeded · 19/02/2017 20:25

DS said only 3 in his group did both of their songs for Honk, most people got to read some script, and a few were asked to do impro instead and were watched by the Little Princess team. So I don't think anyone in his group felt they hadn't been given a chance to do things. He did say they barely had time to learn the dance, so he felt he could have done better with a bit more time to practise it, but everyone was in the same boat for that so he didn't worry too much.

Dancingdaughters · 19/02/2017 21:08

Imaginary has just tweeted that they have picked their cast! Gulp!

EvilTwins · 19/02/2017 22:41

NYMT have tweeted that they'll leave it a few days to make sure that they are sure, and will then let people know. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Pinkstargazer12 · 20/02/2017 09:05

I agree Biscuits, the impression I got from my daughter was that everyone came away feeling they'd had a good go. Fingers crossed for all!

Biscuitsneeded · 20/02/2017 22:13

Oh, I really do need to get a grip. DS is handling the wait far better than I am... They can't keep the DC in suspense much past Wednesday, can they??

Dancingdaughters · 20/02/2017 22:27

I'm glad it's not just me!! 🤣

EvilTwins · 20/02/2017 22:32

Tweet yesterday says "we'll spend a few days thinking it over until we're sure, then we'll let people know" I reckon it'll be Friday before anyone hears.

Dancingdaughters · 20/02/2017 22:38

Last year it was Wednesday though looking back through the messages here

Biscuitsneeded · 20/02/2017 22:59

I'm thinking Wednesday, or possibly Thursday. If the decisions are made they surely don't need more than 48 hours ish in case they want to change their mind?
I also think that quite often they cast the show but don't reveal roles until the first residential. So if they're still undecided between 2 good candidates they pick both and then once they have them all together they do a sort of audition on the first day, and then give one the main role and the other an ensemble role. DS is fairly sure this happened last year with his show. It wasn't announced as such, but with hindsight he realised that was what was happening!

aplo · 20/02/2017 23:48

Hoping for Wednesday here too but have told Dd it could be Friday or even Monday week.
Literally just back home now after a lovely weekend- staying on afterwards actually distracted both DD and I from what was really happening. She was happy enough with her audition - more so with Honk than Imaginary for reasons she can't explain other than Nick (the MD) was very nice in her Honk audition, but apparently they were all lovely in imaginary too.
She also would have liked more time to learn the dance but she said both dances were fun!
We shopped today for shoes for her confirmation (which is next month) and it was nearly more stressful than the audition- thankfully we now have shoes that we both like!
Hopefully it will all be over in 48 hours!!

It was a very sound idea to tell DD it would be a while. Unfortunately DS has looked at Twitter, so has seen the mention of 'a few days' and thinks they will hear tomorrow. I really hope they do! I think last year they tweeted to say they would be sending out results later the same day, so we knew to keep an eye on our email..

JaninLondon, your did your DD get on on Sunday?

Dancingdaughters · 21/02/2017 09:56

Lol biscuits. My DD has been scouring twitter. You can see photos on the sheets too and some are very clear but not hers. I'm wondering if they realised you can see some pics on there!

janinlondon · 21/02/2017 10:02

Biscuits - there were quite a lot of disheartened kids I'm afraid. Not one person in DD's group was asked to read anything. No acting at all. There were four boys and about 17 girls - so they only selected four girls to sing the duet. The other 13 missed out. The session finished an hour early. No one really understood why........

Biscuitsneeded · 21/02/2017 10:24

That sounds very odd, Jan. Did your DD get to sing solo at all? It may be that the 4 girls who sang the duet were being considered for a particular role, doesn't mean the others weren't being considered at all. But I agree it's a bit odd if they didn't ask them to act. Did your DD query the early finish?

minimits · 21/02/2017 10:39

It was a bit odd! My DS spent so long on his part and didn't get to read for it but then none of them did-they were all asked to read for another character as they 'didn't have enough Milo's' but they were all older than the part said so not at all optimistic. They were all in the same boat though! Wish they didn't ask you to prepare a part if you aren't going to get to do it though-waste if a half term!

Dancingdaughters · 21/02/2017 11:06

Was that for imaginary or the park one?

janinlondon · 21/02/2017 11:41

Ours was for Sunday in the Park with George. They were allowed to sing their solos, but that was after the selected four had done the duets. DD said there were several outstandingly fabulous voices in the solos who were not chosen to sing the duet, and she felt sorry for them as it seemed to be a random four who were chosen. There was a feeling that the play had been cast already, and that they were wasting their time (group as a whole, discussing after they were turfed out).

FANTINE1 · 21/02/2017 13:17

Janinlondon,
What you are saying about Sunday does not surprise me at all.
i know that loads of people on here have nothing but good things to say about the organisation, but, I think that if you get cast when you are relatively young, you tend to stay on the radar, and they will use you again at some point. In the older age groups however, the do tend to re cast. I think you may find that many[not all] of the older cast have already got some profile, they have agents and at the very least are already training at places like Arts Ed. if you suddenly turn up at the age of 17/18/19 you stand little chance, since they already have their go to cast.
My daughter tried for spring Awakening last year and for previous shows. She got the distinct impression that SA had basically already been cast. She definitely felt that there was a clique, which was disappointing.
