Anyone interested in joining a power-walking thread for New Year??

There was a similar one last year for those valiant Mumsnetters who took part in Moonwalks. It was a thread where everyone reported progress (or not - as in my case latterly) trials, injuries and triumphs and gained a bit of motivation and support.

I just want to start walking for fitness again in the new Year (haven't even worked out my new regime yet - daily or thrice weekly) but just wanted to get the ball rolling.

Anyone interested?

oops ... third choice .. scored 73 out of 100

I am so pleased that despite the snow I have just walked 2 x 1 mile each day back and forth across Birmingham while I was away on a work trip. And 4 out of the 6 journeys had me pulling my wheely suitcase behind me (and carrying it up and down stairs etc). Am a bit that it was only a mile each way, and because of the snow I couldn't go all that fast, but I DID WALK it, despite the fact I could have had a cab.

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/02/2009 13:26

Well done Jammy - exercising despite suitcase and snow - now that's determination!!!

JammyQueenOfTheNewYear · 08/02/2009 10:51

Well no serious walking because the pavements are just too damn icy round here, but did go to the gym yesterday, and for a swim today. Each of which entailed a half mile skate walk each way. Have all you other ladies got snow? Am I the only one that's not had a decent walk in days?

bigTillyMint · 08/02/2009 16:02

No, same problem here - have had to make do with the gym

Fingers crossed no more snow next week!

Really sorry everyone - I'm not being a terribly good "leader" of this thread - am really struggling currently ...but just popped in to say "hello".

Should have posted this earlier in the week:

WEEK 6

Entry level Add 5,000 steps to your baseline on five out of seven days, plus 5 mins at OWP on three out of seven days. Complete FWT.

NP Walk for 20 mins on top of normal activity on five out of seven days, broken into two bouts if necessary. Make 5 mins of this at OWP on three of those days. Complete FWT.

Advanced level Add 6,000 steps to your baseline on five out of seven days, plus 10 mins at OWP on three out of seven days. Complete FWT.

NP Walk for 25 mins on top of normal activity on five out of seven days, plus 10 mins at OWP on three out of seven days. Complete FWT.

How is everyone else doing?

Haven't even started! Have DS at home from school as he has had a recurring tummy bug and after it came back on Saturday for the 3rd time in 3 weeks I took him to the doc and they think it may be a bacterial infection that seems to be doing the rounds here and said he should be off school for rest of week. Of course he is now totally fine! Test result not back till tomorrow though.

And we are off to Dublin tonight so unlikely to get started till week after next now.

But I will!

Countingthegreyhairs · 12/02/2009 14:54

Oh your poor ds Buda and poor you! It is a really difficult time for viruses - don't worry - we will prevail!! Hope he gets better really soon and have a great time in Dublin!

Hi to all and thank you to Countingflocksbynight for starting this, I am doing the Edinburgh moonwalk in June, I am so unfit, overweight and haven't started training yet! I have just put a post on another thread and to my embarrassment it was from last years Jan thread!
This thread and everyones comments will give me the boost I need, instead of sitting on my bum watching Jeremy Kyle!
My training starts tomorrow xx

marg1066 · 12/02/2009 22:23

Sorry Countinggreyhairs ,never realised it was you that started the thread.... thanks and well done for doing so. Hope things improve for you soon.

Countingthegreyhairs · 12/02/2009 23:11

Hello Marg - absolutely no need to apologise - 'tis me that should be doing that.. and lol re '3 yrs ago' ... my new year resolutions posted on here for all the world to see have been exactly the same for at least 5 yrs running, so I know exactly where you are coming from !!!

Um, there is another thread currently running for Moonwalkers ...

.. Tilly Mint I think you are already on it and it looks really good ... full of v. motivated people ...

....would everyone here like to join that one ... it would seem to make sense if they wouldn't mind ....what do you all think?

marg1066 · 13/02/2009 11:03

Sounds like a good idea, do you know what the site is?

Countingthegreyhairs · 13/02/2009 16:38

Tis here Marg:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sports_and_exercise/680656-Moonwalk

I think we might be more motivated if we have a goal or we are at least in the 'company' of others who do ....

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2009 18:12

Yes! Come on over!

Countingthegreyhairs · 14/02/2009 15:54

OK everyone, if you are interested, the Moonwalkers have very kindly welcomed us to their thread. I think I will be joining them! Do come over if you want to!
