Anyone interested in joining a power-walking thread for New Year??

Countingtheflocksbynight · 30/12/2008 19:25

There was a similar one last year for those valiant Mumsnetters who took part in Moonwalks. It was a thread where everyone reported progress (or not - as in my case latterly) trials, injuries and triumphs and gained a bit of motivation and support.

I just want to start walking for fitness again in the new Year (haven't even worked out my new regime yet - daily or thrice weekly) but just wanted to get the ball rolling.

Anyone interested?

Grey Skull - 2.4 miles to start sounds really good to me and you will be doubling your distance ...an achievable concrete objective. Good luck with your goal.

Hi everyone

Off to work now but just wanted to wish everyone "good luck" if you are starting to walk today. I'll need my snow shoes here in Brussels!!

Just to recapitulate: here's the plan if anyone else is planning to join us (scroll down for link to Week One)

I was thinking of doing this, as I really want to lose some weight and feel fitter.

I was thinking of walking as aoon as I get up - so it's early and no-one will see me

Will start this week.

Welcome dietstartstomorrow ...

Oh yes, I often walk late at night so people can't see me shambling along . Good luck this wk.

I didn't do my walking today, it was nasty, wet sleet at school drop off time so I chickened out. I don't mind the cold, but when it's sleeting it's painful as it hits your face. [delicate flower emoticon]

No walking yet today but did 40 minute walk, some of it uphill, yesterday, pushing 3 yr old in buggy which was hard work!
Planning on quick walk tonight, then longer one tomorrow as I have an appointment I can walk to.

didn't go out this morning as it was blowing a hoolie and snowing - will try to get out later.

madlentileater · 05/01/2009 18:39

just got back!
tis VERY cold, but a nice moon. Found it hard to keep up the pace for the full 30 mins though. We have a wii fit, so my plan is half hour on that if I don't go out...
well, that's the plan anyway

SilentTerror · 06/01/2009 17:39

20 mins this morning but pavements still slippy even with boots on so gave up and came home!

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/01/2009 18:25

not much action here sadly. have stinking cold and pavements covered in 4 inches of thick powdery snow. It looks lovely though!

Well done to those of you intrepid enough to venture out ...!!

dietstartstomorrow · 06/01/2009 20:36

I've just been out and done my first 30 mins

It's been so cold and frosty here in the mornings, so thought i'd give the evenings a try. Was still very cold though.

Yeni · 07/01/2009 10:35

I'm trying to do 15000 steps per day but I can't always fit it in. I've got a new pedometer to motivate me.

madlentileater · 07/01/2009 18:47

just back again!
weather has warmed up very suddenly, but now it's misty! I actually felt too hot on the way back, so must be doing something right. Still waiting for my book to come. yesterday I went on the wii instead. Does anyone want to know my wii fit age????

madlentileater · 08/01/2009 09:56

Oh go on, ask me!

madlentileater · 08/01/2009 10:01

right then will bugger off to work

Yeni · 08/01/2009 10:27

Go on then, what is your wii fit age?

madlentileater · 08/01/2009 21:49

ah well, hmm, you really should have asked me on tuesday, when it was......6 yrs less than my actual age.
Today it is......5 yrs more than my actual age
tis because it unfairly asked me to do a really difficult exercise and dcs were batting about the place while I was trying to balance

dietstartstomorrow · 09/01/2009 09:48

My wii fit age is always totally different.

What exercises have you been doing on wii fit. I love the hula and step.

madlentileater · 09/01/2009 10:48

I try and do something from each category- seems I have very poor balance. But hula hoop and jogging seen the only ones that raise my pulse at all. Last night I tries the boxing and the penguin slide whish is fun.

madlentileater · 10/01/2009 17:12

tis 49 today!

Countingthegreyhairs · 12/01/2009 14:37

Hello DietStartTomorrow - welcome and well done on completing your first walk

Yeni - gosh - 15,000 is quite a lot (I'm aiming for 10,000) so hats off to you

Yo MadLentilEater - sorry for recent radio silence - I passed on my cold and cough to dd and she has been up most nights so have had my hands (and days) full ...um, happy birthday (does a wii birthday count??) [scratches head at new fangled technology]

How is everyone else getting on?

Silent Terror? Greyskull? Keevamum? Bran? Jolly Pirate? Used2bThin? (And anyone I may have missed)

Fiddles with stop watch and pedometer and peers in to middle distance ...

I'm off out tonight btw ... first time back since being ill ... wish me luck!

madlentileater · 12/01/2009 19:44

how did it go Counting?

Countingthegreyhairs · 13/01/2009 12:53

It didn't MadLentilEater

but thank you for asking!!

dh came back late and my sister rang and, and I felt tired after first day back at work after being ill - excuses excuses

this is why I need this thread to kick me up the bum ...

was it really your birthday yesterday? If so, I hope you had a lovely day ...

I'm going to start again on Wednesday ...

Countingthegreyhairs · 13/01/2009 12:54

btw feel rather hypocritical posting this as I haven't exactly had a great start but here is the plan for week 2:

WEEK 2

Entry level Aim to add an extra 1,000 steps to your baseline on five out of seven days, plus 3 mins at OWP on three out of seven days.

NP Walk an extra 10 mins on top of your normal daily activity on five out of seven days. Make 3 mins of the total 10 mins at OWP on three of those days.

Advanced level Aim to add 2,000 steps to your baseline on five out of seven days, plus 6 mins at OWP on three out of seven days.

NP Walk for 20 mins continuously on top of normal daily activity on five out of seven days, plus 6 mins at OWP on three out of seven days.

madlentileater · 13/01/2009 21:25

No not really- just the wii telling me my age!
was out again tonight- a very long day at work but feeling very cooped up so I did the walk anyway. Was slower I think. Feel really tired now!
So tomorrow, you will go walking and I'll be on the wii fit!
