Started this again today (have completed it a few times over the years!). Anyone else beginning it so we can cheer each other on?

I've done my last run! Nowhere near 5k but running for 30 mins is a big achievement for me and I'm not going to stop now 😁

Well done.

I’ve finished mine today. Ran 4.2 km in 40 minutes as have been doing beyond the 30. I actually couldn’t even manage the 60 seconds in week 1 so amazed that I can do this.

RunningForCalm · 01/07/2026 11:49

Well done @wendywoopywoo222!! Amazing achievement. I’m on W3R2 and can’t begin to imagine I’ll get there. It’s so motivating to hear others manage.

RunningForCalm · 01/07/2026 11:51

WTF!? “Moderate”?? Should I crank the treadmill up a little. I’m managing OK - focussing on completing - but should I try get my heart rate higher?

Thanks. 🙏. If I can anyone can. Good luck. 🤞 xx

Just wanted to cheer everyone on, whatever the stage you're at. My friend and I did Couch to 5k together a few years ago and still reminisce today about how much we struggled with 60s of repeated running in week one and the genuine 'terror' we felt about the 20 minutes in week 5. This Sunday we're running a 10k event together. Honestly, if we can do it anyone can! Keep going 😊

CaffeineDeficient · 03/07/2026 22:09

@RunningForCalm I went on holiday soon after my last post. The original plan was to run but it was just too warm so I didn't. I think starting on week 3 on Sunday (I try to run Sunday, Tues, Thur) is to ambitious so I'll likely do week 2 for a third time.

On your question about effort - it's all about how you feel, right? I would go by that as you're only going to improve over time, naturally.

Well done to @BetterOffNow and @wendywoopywoo222 ! Are you joining park run/ building on your progress?

I completed week 5 today- am so chuffed I ran for 20 mins- it ramps up quickly! I am very slow though- my cool down walk is faster!

Yay! 20 minutes is a huge step, well done!

I ran my first 5k this morning (43 mins) and hopefully will be parkrunning soon...

wendywoopywoo222 · 04/07/2026 18:12

I’ve not quite made 5k yet but did 4.2km in 40 minutes, I do park run most weeks but still walk some of it. Am hoping to do the whole 5k and my dream is to do it in 45 minutes. Well done and stick with it. 🏃‍♀️🥰

Clarabellawilliamson · 05/07/2026 11:14

Well done @Buntyforgirls that first 20 minutes is a real milestone! I’ve been sticking at 25 minutes (week 7) for a couple of weeks and did my first run of week 8 today- 28 minutes. According to my phone I went 5.3km including give 10 minutes warm up & cool down walks! First time I’ve definitely covered the 5k so I’m really proud. My husband is doing his last run of the program today, and is going much further and faster than me, but I’m just trying to measure my own progress. There’s no WAY I would have been able to do this 2 months ago.

Buntyforgirls · 06/07/2026 12:12

That is great @Clarabellawilliamson !
I just started week 6- (week6!), and was glad to go back to 3 shorter runs- dud manage to run them a bit faster after my 20 min v slow'run'.
Feeling motivated, although still don't believe I've got more than 20mins in me, at this stage.
Thanks for all the encouragement everyone, enjoy your runs this week.

Buntyforgirls · 14/07/2026 12:17

Me again! Run 2 of week 6. In the gym as cooler.
Slow, but doinging it!

ProfessorLayton1 · 15/07/2026 18:31

Completed week 9 but was away last week, managed to run 20 minutes. Too hot for me to run as I cannot run early morning due to other commitments!

ILoveCatsAndKittens · 28/07/2026 09:47

Well done all!
I'm managing 5k three times per week. Averaging 28-30 mins. Summer hols though and not able to get out as much. I only did 4k this morning as hadn’t had any breakfast (usually have a banana hour before) so felt light headed. But better than nothing.

i do have a confession though…….i hate running! I really am jealous of those who are enjoying running. I started in January and thought I’d have changed my feelings by now but I just really don’t like it one bit. 🙈

CoverLikelyZebra · 28/07/2026 10:01

I'm in week 7 now and managing to do 25 minutes but very disheartened that my "running" speed is about the same speed as a brisk walk for someone with longer legs and stronger muscles. My next step once I have got up to 30 minutes will need to be to work on speed as 30 minutes will have me still doing less than 3km

Buntyforgirls · 03/08/2026 16:26

Oh my goodness @CoverLikelyZebra, I just came to write the same ! First run of week 7, 25 mins ran, but so slowly! Prob only 2km distance. Park run will take all morning at this rate. And yes, my cool down is faster!
But still, 25 mins is amazing progress, well done to us!

RunningForCalm · 03/08/2026 18:43

I’ve just completed W5 R3 - the 20 min jump up. Yikes it was hard. I think I stagger-stumbled my way through it, rather than ‘run’. And I now also have a sore knee. 😨

ProfessorLayton1 · 06/08/2026 19:57

I am running for 35 minutes now but really slow, 4 km in 35 minutes.
really happy with the progress. Any tips how to increase my speed !

RunningForCalm · 06/08/2026 22:05

Ugh. I’ve injured my knee. While I ice it I’m looking into new shoes and leggings. I’ll probably invest in a pair of Brooks shoes, but I have no idea what leggings to get. I’d like something sturdy and supportive, and no … ahem … camel toe. Any recommendations?

ProfessorLayton1 · 07/08/2026 07:54

Look at Ron hill or Lulu lemon. Hope you recover soon from your knee injury.

I’ve got a pair of Saucony running trainers which are really comfy. I got them before they have now become a fashion statement though, they are where I live anyway.
husband has had both saucony and brooks, he says both very comfortable and lightweight.

I haven’t run for about 6 weeks as it’s been summer hols and I hate running in the evening and husband gets up too early for work for me to go out before he does.
On tuesday I completed a really slow run, but I actually did 6k without stopping. Really pleased with myself after such a long break but my goodness my hips and thighs are still aching!
