Oh yeah the dog was funny today! Sausage dogs are the nemesis of my greyhounds, they’re terrified of them. Yappy and feisty and just very confusing to them.

Gobacktotheworld2 · 14/12/2025 22:32

I have some rpm DVDs I have never watched in a cupboard at my mum's (bought them in a bundle with my step and combat ones), @samthebordercollie - gotta try those!

A dachshund went for my on-lead fluffy girl when she was a puppy of about four months, @Fibrous (she needed stitches) and she dislikes them with every fibre of her soul! I do like them though and will have to brave the workout it seems.

Anjelika · 15/12/2025 08:28

I'm interested in how people balance cardio/running with CG workouts. I used to just run but my running has gone to pot since doing weights. I really try and work at it as I want cardio fitness as well as strength plus it gets me outside. Not sure what the answer is really. On a rainy day it's so much easier to do weights than go out running!

BigButtons · 15/12/2025 08:49

I don’t run any more- I liked the buzz I got from it but my knees were not happy. I am starting to do one hiit a week again now as I love the feeling I get from it and if we energised all day.
I am really hoping her new programme changes direction. I disliked fuel on YouTube but lived the epics and the way they were programmed. If felt so much more balanced. Now she is obsessed with glutes and shoulders. Three glute sessions last week- just why?

@BigButtonsim hoping for a more cardio focussed programme in the New Year too. If she follows previous years we had Unleash and Rev as January programmes and they had more cardio in them than Max and Iron Pro even if there weren’t specific cardio sessions. @Gobacktotheworld2definitely give the Les Mills rpm a try if you have a bike where you can regulate the force of the wheel

Gobacktotheworld2 · 15/12/2025 09:15

Meh, @BigButtons , though I'm harrumphing more at sissy squats twice in the same week. Absolutely stupid exercise.

I just did IronPro Day 17 because I have been saving those chest/back days, and am determined to try the cgxmas shoulder one with the dachshund tomorrow, so help me God.😖

I do wall sits instead

Well i tried sissy squats..the getting down part was fine but coming back up wasnt the best! So yep, will do wall sits or heel elevated squats instead.

BigButtons · 15/12/2025 13:32

Yuk yuk- ok so I am tired and hungover. Today’s quads session was revolting - I had to keep lying down as my heart rate was getting too high. Sort of did most of it. Never again!🤮

I didn't like the look of today's so did Iron Day 1 (the App version) as it was legs rather than just quads or just hamstrings/glutes. I was proper sweating at the end and I put that down to the shorter rest periods. Have got a bit too used to the 60 second ones in Iron Pro. I have to say I don't think the weights she's doing in Pro are any heavier than in Iron so not sure why the 60 second rest periods were deemed essential.

The weights in Iron Pro are heavier for lunges , rows, RDLs and overhead presses. Not for quad sessions so much or rear delt flyes/lateral raises where she prefers lighter weights to have better form

Fibrous · 15/12/2025 19:06

I did cgxmas day 13 - a total body one I’d missed last week. Fucking curtsey lunges. I have an ankle injury and it was not fun.

Yeah- they were proper nasty. Her advent calendar has not been so much ‘fun’ this year has it?😂

Gobacktotheworld2 · 15/12/2025 20:15

@Anjelika it's a pretty strange little program. IronPro is good for working in with someone else though. We have limited floor space at the moment, and my eldest worked in with me yesterday, following CG for 45sec, then I used the space for my set during their breaks for the chest flyes, chest press and pullovers. I was doing a bit of cardio while she and Caroline were lifting. It's definitely an easier program.

This is my first year doing one and it really isn’t what I was expecting. I look at the exercises and think I will do it and then add on one I missed, but then half way through I think sod that, one is enough!

I feel like she knows I ate a big slice of panettone right before I got my weights out and she’s punishing me for my life choices. Or at least trying to bring on indigestion.

BigButtons · 15/12/2025 20:56

@Fibrous lol!!
I love them- I have done each one since she started on you tube with them. They are normally hard for sure but not quite THIS hard and often had more of the shorter sessions - whereas this time most are closer to 25 mins. 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
AtomicBlondeRose · 15/12/2025 20:57

It’s definitely more demanding than other years, I’m sure of it. I’ve picked up the odd workout from previous advent calendars during “off” weeks or when I’m feeling tired, because I know they’re easier. But these ones aren’t - I was knackered after the bodyweight quads one and struggled to finish some sets such as the step ups (which normally I find quite easy)

AtomicBlondeRose · 15/12/2025 20:58

And yes on the longer sessions! I like getting a bit more of a lie in during December but it’s negligible this time.

Keepoffmyartichokes · 16/12/2025 08:08

I was thinking of trying some of the older advent workouts on YT are they good. I feel I need a change from Iron for a couple of weeks and something a tad easier as I am 90% chocolate and baileys

TessTickle0 · 16/12/2025 09:40

I've done the christmas advent on YouTube but it's been a while...from my memory it is easier, and quite a lot are only ten mins(abs etc)

Anjelika · 16/12/2025 10:28

She was using 20's for RDLs and Lunges in the Iron one I did yesterday which I thought was the same as in Iron Pro but I could be wrong.

samthebordercollie · 16/12/2025 10:39

@Anjelikashe goes up to 25kg for lunges in Iron Pro. But agree the rest periods don’t always justify the weights when you compare to other programmes

BigButtons · 16/12/2025 12:20

@Anjelika yeah she went up to 25kg. K managed to get to 22.5- then j got bored!

I quite like the look of the new Play programme starting in the new year, it looks a little like PE my favourite except for the full body day

Fibrous · 16/12/2025 13:44

I was wondering what the deal is for January. Is there usually a big program to catch all those with New Year’s resolutions? Where can I find the info about the Play program @samthebordercollie ? Is this on the app or has it been posted about elsewhere - I’m inept at finding things! Ta.

i am going to need some serious motivation to get me through January.
