Thanks for the new thread @BigButtons ! As you say, keeping it real, unlike the majority of the CG Community page posters 😀

ugh- the mad Kearney couple are spamming the group with photos of their holiday and commenting on each other's posts.

Thank you for the new fred! I love this space and the very rational atmosphere cultivated by our hostess with the mostess [glutes], @BigButtons. 💐

I just did Iron Pro day 3, my first ever Iron workout of any type, and really loved it. I did change the sumos to 60 sec on, 45 sec rest, which was easy with her ginormous timer, but otherwise did the workout "as is" for the most part (though I didn't drop the weight for the final set of hip thrusts because I didn't notice what she was up to (dammit), and I did do Heather Robertson style hamstring curls instead of hamstring rollouts). It was GREAT that she had bodyweight warm up sets for both the hip thrusts and the Bulgarians built into the workout proper- very clever and it let you achieve proper depth immediately in the weighted sets. A totally excellent workout and on the few occasions when the breaks did seem a bit long, I did calf raises. Mostly the rest was needed, though, especially during HTs which I loaded up to the max. I went heavier than her for everything (most especially bodyweight haha) but don't kid myself I am as strong as her. She is looking as strong as an ox just now, genuinely inspiring.

Fantastic workout and I feel it counts for my "heavy" day this week if I get busy / lazy this weekend. I am extremely curious about the upcoming full body day now. Hopefully it's compound movements and has some chest and back and no crazy lunges.

Thank you for the Kearney update. I dream of one day having such a fantastic holiday that I spend it all going to the gym and posting shite on social media.

BigButtons · 10/09/2025 19:51

I am doing a work out with my fingers on vinted atm- does that count?

@BigButtons et al - thank you for introducing me to a new workout/person. Just follower on YouTube and did a workout tonight and loved it.

Which workouts do you all recommend?

I’m 50 Perimenopausal and 2.5 stone overweight (down from 7 stone overweight 14 months ago) and just been told my tbyroid is underactive (not medicated yet).

Love weights and home workouts and walking.

Minesril · 10/09/2025 22:02

Checking in! I’ve started PE again - day one was over 150 bulgarian lunges which I vaguely remember from the first time round (which according to my FB ‘memories’ was one year ago!). Did day two today. I really like the format.

Gobacktotheworld · 10/09/2025 22:27

Yeah you are smashing it BigButtons 💪 💪 💪

@Minesril The first one of PE is etched in my brain. 16 mins of Bulgarians...

Welcome @TheMimsy that is phenomenal weight loss, congratulations! I love Caroline's youtube stuff, especially the Epic programs and Fuel, but my personal favourite youtube workouts are these:

  1. Kettlebell Supersets 30min
  1. 20 Min Dumbbell Leg Workout
  1. Epic III Day 19 - Super Full Body (all supersets with an RDL staple) 45min
  1. 20 Min Abs and Core
  1. Epic Endgame Day 25 - Cardio kickboxing workout 30min
  1. Fuel Day 12 - Antagonist Upper Body 40min
  1. Epic II Day 45 (and all the full body days from that programme) 1 hour

My favourite short series is the Unilateral week! They are all brilliant but the full body day from that is seriously fun.

Have fun exploring! I have so many of her youtube workouts still to do...

I'm really really enjoying PE. It's very tiring though (for me) so I'm just doing 3 or 4 a week with a day's rest in between. I've had various injuries and am very wary of pushing too hard!

I did however have a look at day 1 Iron Pro and made the mistake of looking at the comments on the app. Ugh that Kearney fella. What an arse. I'm surprised that a psychologist cares so much about showing off to "gym bros" 🙄

Gobacktotheworld · 11/09/2025 10:22

Whoop, whoop? Lmao.

I did Intent Day 6 "Longest Bicep Finisher" upper body, this morning. I do about one Intent workout a month, so should be done with the programme within 4 years.:D I do love these 40sec on 20 sec rest, metabolic, high rep workouts you get sometimes in Intent (is it every third lower, every third upper?). A bicep finisher where you look up and it says 298 seconds to go, though? Do fuck off, dear Caroline.

Minesril · 11/09/2025 13:15

Just sweated my way through PE day 3. The format is less fun when it comes to unilateral work. At least Beast Mode was only twice per side. Three times per side brings to mind ‘18 pages - front and back!!’

I love that cardio kickboxing workout - starts deceptively simple but you’re sweating by the end! Wondering if it could be attempted with 1kg weights (think I have some at the back of a cupboard!).

BigButtons · 11/09/2025 17:26

@Minesril i am awful at kickboxing. I look like a demented locust. It was not a session I enjoyed but I remembering it getting a lot of love at the time!Iron pro day three just done. I enjoyed it and normally LOATHE all glute days. I managed a pb for the sumos and barbell 30 and 60kg . Not much for some of th but I am ever mindful of my right hip which can throw a sciatica tantrum if I am not very careful 😬

OP posts:
LostaraYil · 11/09/2025 18:35

Did day 3 of the old Iron on the app today, endless hip thrusts but interspersed with banded walks which did make it more fun. I'm awful at one legged hip thrusts, I think my legs are so heavy and hips so wide that I can't keep my hips level.
Looking forward to the full body day tomorrow, I think I'll stick with old Iron tomorrow though I am tempted by Iron Pro because of the hype.

samthebordercollie · 11/09/2025 18:41

Day 3 Iron Pro here too. Really enjoyed it, but don’t have the weights to go higher so,did the same as you for sumo and hip thrusts, just increased the time to 60 seconds. I also swapped out the stability bore for RDLs. Loved doing the Bulgarians with a hand on the bench for stability, was able,to go much lower than usual so it really hit the glutes.
anyone else having problems with jeans? I used to wear skinny/slim but my quads and calves have increased in size they are awful to wear even if my waist is still the same. I’m very glad wide leg jeans are in fashion currently!

BeethovenNinth · 11/09/2025 19:13

I managed Iron day 4 last night - I just chop and chance depending what I feel like. It was a bit repetitive and then I felt my quad ache so switched it up with some kettle bells.

i think I prefer the no repeat workouts

BigButtons · 11/09/2025 21:56

Day three days into this and I have a ferocious hunger

OP posts:
BigButtons · 12/09/2025 06:59

Looking at day 4 full body on the app. I generally loath full body work, but since it is circuits I will aim to do 2 rounds 🙂
Also cannot be arsed to get my barbell out again AND my arse has taken a beating this week what can I sub that with?

OP posts:
Gobacktotheworld · 12/09/2025 07:35

I'm always ferociously hungry. Sam's question about how jeans are fitting these days is one I am going to studiously ignore.

I don't mind circuits for full body days but won't be doing the IronPro ones if they are going to be lower body with some perfunctory shoulder exercises chucked in. It's REV without the cardio bursts that actually made that one really invigorating. Just one set of bridges every ten minutes is a bit of a pain too, with tripping over the unused barbell the rest of the time. You couldn't really do this at the gym.

I did Epic Day 24 instead as indeed no repeat workouts as just enjoyable @BeethovenNinth . Adored it, especially the "x over squat"and the side plank with the dumbbell held up in the air, really tough. It was also good to do single leg RDL holding two dumbbells again- she should show this visually as an option in IronPro to remind people who don't have heavy heavy dumbbells how they can increase the challenge for themselves. It's really easy to feel the hamstrings when you use 2 DB.

MsMoody · 12/09/2025 08:51

The usual suspects who comment on the freshly released workout at 12am before it's even possible to have completed it... do they stay up late to mark their territory?

Fibrous · 12/09/2025 09:44

I was gonna do day four after my run this morning but I ran home via the farm shop to get some coffee beans as my boyfriend told me we’d run out. But when I got home he’d drunk all the fucking milk so I’ll have to go back to the shop and I’m so angry I CBA to do another workout. Need caffeine!

i have always had legs like a donkey and never been able to find jeans that fit. I am a stereotypical Shetland pony - hairy, low to the ground, and no chance of ever blowing over in the wind! I just wear skinny jeans as they’re the only thing that fit the small waist big thigh situation and I can also roll up the leg. I don’t care if it looks shit - you can only do some much with what you’ve got.

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/09/2025 11:34

I noticed I was hungry yesterday - went scrounging in the kitchen for a caramel wafer bar after my tea and I never normally do that! Did Day 4 of Iron Pro today. One of those annoying full body workouts where you get every piece of equipment out! I don’t much like circuits but it was fine overall. I’m a cardio-loather so it suited me.

Fibrous · 12/09/2025 13:23

I ended up scoffing an almond croissant when I went back to the shop for milk, so guilted myself into doing day 4. Bloody lunges! It always feels like my hamstrings are going to pop. Maybe I need to swap them for something else. They also hurt my bunions.

right, I should really do some work.

Gobacktotheworld · 12/09/2025 13:29

I dream of looking like a Shetland pony, Fibrous. More of a milk urn here.

This workout today does look pretty good, Atomic, and I will bookmark it for when just wanting pure weights. On closer inspection I do like the look of the banded abduction stuff to burn out the glutes at the end; used to do that in a Bret Contreras training program in another lifetime.

This app comment could have been more fortunately phrased. Silly boy Aidan's body fluids are not something I ever want to think about.

samthebordercollie · 12/09/2025 13:30

@Fibrous I feel your pain over the lunges with bunions! I had a massive bunion on my right foot removed a few years ago (funnily enough it never hurt even with all the running but was so pronounced I could only wear men's trainers, no 'proper' shoes[.
But now the bunion on my other foot has started hurting, it's smaller but really painful during lunges. I don't want to go through another bunion op so not sure what to do! Are you considering surgery?
I did Iron Pro Day 2 today, managed one set of shoulder presses with 12,5kg but that was it, other than that same as CG. A nice workout. I'm not ravenous, tbh Iron Pro with the long rests is a lot easier than PE which is supersets throughout!
