Great North Run 2022

Anyone else signed up for this?

Got the email yesterday 3 months to go (gulp) it will be my longest ever run, I'm feeling a little nervous but following a training plan and hoping the crowds and atmosphere on the day will spur me on.

I'm aiming for 2hrs 10mins or below but not sure yet how realistic this is, I ran 8 miles in 80mins last week.

Off out for a half hour run soon pushing the running buggy

Me! Me! Me! 🙋🏻‍♀️

If you can run 8 miles in 80 minutes, then you should be okay to run 13 miles in 130 minutes.

It would be my first half event too, and I'm not sure whether I'll reach my target time but they do say that the atmosphere a d crowd will spur you on.

Have fun training!

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 12/06/2022 13:22

Not long back from my 30min run, did just over 3miles pushing the running buggy (I've got a one year old) so I'm pretty happy with that.

What sort of time you aiming for @xsquared ?

I'm nervous and excited 😂 seem to be in a good place with my running atm and actually enjoying it

Well done on your buggy run. Always have extra kudos who do it pushing a buggy!

I'm aiming just to beat my current PB which is 1:44:49 Garmin time or 1:44:11 Strava time. However, at the time of signing up, I registered for the target time bracket below that, so let's see what happens on the day!

Are you following the plan on their website?

It's good to hear you're happy with your running so far, you will only get better, and better.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 12/06/2022 21:13

Oh amazing that you've got a target to beat, I've set up a training plan on my watch and just doing what that tells me, I've done a 5k plan off it that got me to a sub 25min5k which I had been chasing for a while so happy to just go with this for now, and see how it goes 🤞😊

I started at the very back, of 50/60,000 starters. I WALKED the whole way. When I finished, there were MORE THAN SIXTEEN THOUSAND 'runners' behind me. Er....I'm 72.

xsquared · 12/06/2022 21:31

That's amazing @Isleoftights !

xsquared · 12/06/2022 21:32

That's great @GreatNorthRunner2022 . I hope your HM plan rewards you with your goal.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 13/06/2022 07:23

@Isleoftights that's an amazing achievement!

Rest day today for me ☺️ 50mins tomorrow at some point after work🏃‍♀️

Rest day here too. Easy run scheduled for tomorrow morning to avoid the heat later on.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 14/06/2022 19:42

Found it tough today, had a rough night's sleep, a busy day at work then took two of my girls swimming then did my run. I'm knackered!! 🤣🤣 But it's done and tomorrow is another day.

Now ready for food, a shower and hopefully some sleep

That's a really packed day. Well done for getting out and getting it done!

I got up before 6 to do the easy run with my running buddy before work. Felt tired at work though!

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 15/06/2022 13:40

@xsquared always good to run with a friend! I'm a postie so got up at 4 to run before work today and think I will do the same Friday or it's going to be away too hot 🔥

OP posts:
xsquared · 15/06/2022 17:52

Out for a club run shortly which is going to be hot! 🥵

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 16/06/2022 13:32

@xsquared hope your run went well, I'm feeling the heat and tiredness today, sitting with my feet up after work until school time I think

40min run done at 4am today before the heat (and work), love this time of year for early morning runs. Not sure my legs will thank me later but it's all building towards half marathon

Wow, kudos to you. Must have felt so lovely and breezy at time of the morning. I'm about to go for my long easy run with my running buddy.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 19/06/2022 12:16

Another day another run done, today was slightly different, I did a 10min gentle run followed by 8 lots of 20secs hard and 45secs rest then another 10mins gentle to finish up, definitely different, did get some strange looks 🤣🙈

OP posts:
xsquared · 19/06/2022 13:32

That sounds like stride repeats which is what I have in a few days time. Do you do them round a track or a field nearby? If you're self conscious about getting strange looks, then it might be an option to consider.

Well done.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 19/06/2022 18:31

Yes I think that was it stride repeats

I did them on a wide path near where I live that cuts through a grass area so I was away from roads etc, not bothered about people thinking I'm strange 🤣🤣 i often get comments when I'm out with the running buggy etc. Do enjoy going down to the track occasionally though

90 min done last night, found it fairly tough - didn't quite manage 9miles (8.99) tried a running gel for the first time which was a experience, any recommendations gratefully received

OP posts:
xsquared · 21/06/2022 07:11

Well done on your long run. It would feel tough in the heat.

I like Kendal Mint Company gels which I get from X-Miles.

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 04/07/2022 21:57

So I've not done much running in the past couple weeks, as a family we've all had a sickness bug and then my mental health has taken a bit of a nose dive and I'm just really struggling. Running with some friends on weds in a local ish 5k series which will hopefully help ease back onto plan. We shall see

OP posts:
xsquared · 11/07/2022 04:52

Sorry to hear that @GreatNorthRunner2022 , I hope your run with the 5K group helped get your mojo again.

I'm just about to go out for my goal pace run. Chosen a flat route!

GreatNorthRunner2022 · 11/07/2022 08:47

It's all pretty flat where I live, my run today was supposed to be speed repeats but I wasn't feeling it so just went with run to feel, did 50mins and just over 5 miles so pretty happy with that. Said I'd go out for a 10k with one of my running friends about 6pm, think I will regret that later 🤣🤣☀️
