What Knickers do you wear in the Gym? (fatty!)

Hiya, can anyone recommend any decent knickers for under gym leggings please? I'm struggling to find any suitable ones at the moment. All mine either have lacy bits which make lumps, or are the wrong fabric so get really really sweaty. I am a size 18-20 ish with a big belly, and like to be fully covered, no thongs or bikinis. I find that so many knickers don't have a back seam either, and you end up with one giant buttock which looks weird. Is there something out there I'm missing? Does anyone recommend anything?

I mainly do treadmill and weights, if that makes a difference.

Just big waist high Bridget Jones knickers.

GivenchyDahhling · 14/08/2021 15:33

I’ve never worn underwear under gym leggings - much more comfortable! To be honest I didn’t think anyone did but maybe I’m the strange one.

RogueV · 14/08/2021 15:35

I don’t wear knickers underneath gym leggings - found it much more comfortable! Have also stopped wearing socks.

Wear a solid sports bra though Smile

Where do you find ones that don't have lumpy seams or get very sweaty? I'm struggling to find anything suitable at the moment. All the ones I have like that are either lumpy under my leggings, or made of nylon type things that just make me sweat more.

I don't feel very comfortable going without underwear!

I also just wear the big knickers. I can't stand the labels on gym leggings scratching me so knickers are necessary. High waist, full brief a la M&S.

ufucoffee · 14/08/2021 15:43

@ShinyMe I think I got them in asda or Sainsburys. I've never noticed seams or problems with them but I'm very sweaty anyway and my eyesight is really bad so I probably just haven't noticed Grin

Haha, yes, maybe I just need to put up with the sweat! And it's not as if anyone is looking anyway! 90% of my current knickers are from Sainsburys, but they all have stupid lacy bits.

I'd agree and say Asda big pants 😂. I have some Sweaty Betty ones which I use but they have a tendency to "move" but now a pp has mentioned going without I may give that a whirl!

Bon prix womens boxers!

MaMelon · 14/08/2021 16:06

Full briefs in cotton from M&S or Sainsbury’s - and always buy your knickers a size up (top tip that - I read it on here years ago and it’s been one of the best pieces of advice ever)

Hopeislost · 14/08/2021 16:15

Not cotton! You want the 'no vpl' material as it won't show through AND won't get all sweaty! M&S do midis or full briefs in their 'no vpl' range depending on how much coverage you need.

MaMelon · 14/08/2021 16:22

No no no - that no VPL material is the most sweat inducing fabric known to humankind Shock And it rides up between your bum cheeks!

Thank you, that's what I suspected! Thinking about it, the sweat bothers me far more than the VPL. If I had to choose, I'd take the VPL with less sweat. I mean, I know I'll get sweaty anyway, but no need for it to be even worse.

Tesco seam free

pandora206 · 14/08/2021 16:48

On someone's recommendation here I bought two pairs of Thunderpants, the original and hipster styles, which I wear to the gym. They are extremely comfortable organic cotton, have a nice wide gusset and don't ride up. However, they do show a bottom leg line, so not completely without a VPL. If I were to reorder, I'd probably go a size up for this reason and I prefer the hipster style though wear both. (I'm a trim size 12 by the way not particularly large). I was quite conservative and went for plain black though they do an exciting range of colours.

I wear them to all sorts of gym classes (Body Pump, Sh'bam, Yoga, etc) and now think of them as part of my kit. I forget I have them on when I'm wearing them, and they do get a lot of use.

HDready · 14/08/2021 16:51

Runderwear - no seams, moisture wicking

ShinyMe · 14/08/2021 16:55

I keep seeing those thunderpants advertised everywhere. I like all the colours but oh my god are they ugly! I really hate the look of those lumpy leg seams! If I saw them in an actual shop I suppose I might consider them, but I don't think they're for me.

I don't wear any, tried all different kinds and all annoyed me so I go without

Ooh, now these do look like what I'm after! What are their sizes like? I put in my measurements and it says they don't have a size for me. Their XXL says "to fit waist up to 33inches" which is... not me!

eurochick · 14/08/2021 17:04

I prefer to go without. If I do wear them I have some microfibre boy shorts from M a d S that do the job.

Spodge · 14/08/2021 17:29

Sloggi zero range.

I'm the same. M&S big support pants

I need belly support. No pants is not an option
BeginningBridge · 14/08/2021 17:52

I really recommend Sloggi big pants! Not the cheapest to buy but they last for ages, are very comfortable and never ride up

Gladioli23 · 14/08/2021 17:58

M and S 100% cotton high legs. They do get sweaty but they don't induce sweat if that makes sense? No VPL material makes me super sweaty.
