What Knickers do you wear in the Gym? (fatty!)

Hiya, can anyone recommend any decent knickers for under gym leggings please? I'm struggling to find any suitable ones at the moment. All mine either have lacy bits which make lumps, or are the wrong fabric so get really really sweaty. I am a size 18-20 ish with a big belly, and like to be fully covered, no thongs or bikinis. I find that so many knickers don't have a back seam either, and you end up with one giant buttock which looks weird. Is there something out there I'm missing? Does anyone recommend anything?

I mainly do treadmill and weights, if that makes a difference.

Brand called wirapa on Amazon. They're proper big, very comfortable and cover everything you need to be held in/up to stop the horrors of an apron slapping against your other skin whilst running when combined with high rise compression leggings.

@crummyusername

I only wear Runderwear for sports - actually wicks away the sweat. I’d recommend going up a size as they come up small ish.
The Runderwear stuff looks good, but their description of a 20-22 is... not what I am! So I can't go up a size and they are very pricey to make a mistake, so they're a no.

I don't want period pants, I don't think. I'll have another look in M&S. In normal times I'd go to Debenhams, but that's obviously not an option now. The John Lewis nearest me has also shut. I'd really prefer to buy something in person where I can see it if I can, I find buying things like this online such a pain. The only places near me that sell actual physical knickers would be supermarkets, M&S and then fashiony shops like Primark which I never ever go into because I assume they have nothing for me, but maybe it's worth a trip.

Ideally I'd like something that has a back seam or some shaping so that I don't end up with a massive solid backside. But maybe I don't need that... I'm definitely not wearing a thong! I wore them when I was much thinner and somewhere between a size 14 and a size 16 they became a big NO.

Crikey none of these suggestions - go to Sports Direct and buy sports knickers, lots of brands and styles but made of the right kind of performance fabric not to asorb bottom sweat!

dementedpixie · 15/08/2021 09:29

Sports direct don't have my size usually

Me neither. However, I needed some emergency pants as I had gone away for a few days and hadn't packed enough underwear. M&S closed at 6pm and Primark was still open so I went and got some 'what ever it takes'' pants. I did smile on reading the description of Primark's pants over the display of pants in the shop and went for, 'full bum coverage.' I kid you not.

I've never looked back. I've fallen out of love with M&S 'high leg' briefs as my belly is to much for them to handle and the pants just roll under my spare tyre as soon as I put the pants on.

I've been back to Primark since as their pants really work for me. Well, as pants anyway.

Sainsbury’s shorts style knickers for me, apart from with running shorts with inbuilt pants.

ShinyMe · 15/08/2021 20:16

There's zero chance of me ever spending any money in Sports Direct. They're a massive nope.

I'll pop into town tomorrow and have a look in M&S and Primark (they're next door to each other) and if that's no good then I'll try the big Asda.

I just wear my normal M&S full briefs. They don’t show underneath my gym leggings but I’m not sure I’d be bothered if there was a vpl or a defined bumcrack, if I’m honest.

SnuffleBadger · 15/08/2021 20:30

M&S do full briefs in their no VPL range that are cotton (called cotton modal IIRC). Not at all sweaty and really comfy. Think they also offer a midi version.

SnuffleBadger · 15/08/2021 20:33

If looking for them in store they are in a multipack (5 pairs).

Guineapigbridge · 15/08/2021 23:06

There's also amazing a activewear designed-for and owned-by Africans (or African-Americans or Carribbeans). Bright patterns, great for ladies with larger bums, super stylish. Try googling African activewear and some examples will come up.

Yes! These. I wouldn't run long distances in anything else. No sweat, no chafing. The Sainsburys and Asda versions are nowhere near as good - has to be the M&S ones! I get the no VPL modal "boy shorts."

ShinyMe · 17/08/2021 19:53

I bought some cotton big knickers in Tesco today which seem ok. They're a size smaller than my usual ones too (they didn't have my size, so I risked it) and they fit, so yay! Maybe the exercise is paying off after all.

I was really annoyed today - Sainsbury's had not one pair in any style over a size 18, and Tesco only had ONE pack (the ones I bought) in 18 and nothing above, not even in the support pants bit. Very poor.

As others have said its really down to.personal preference and what you feel most comfortable with.
