RED January 2021

Who's signed up for RED January 2021?
Formerly known as Run Every Day, now Regular Exercise Daily.

This will be my 4th year (I'll miss the t-shirt but dig out my oldies). I think with the state of the world, not only do I need it more than ever but my motivation is more fragile than ever too.

I aim to exercise outdoors daily. Lots of running, hopefully my outdoor classes continuing and some walking as active rest.

I'm also eyeing up Adriene's January series Breathe. I enjoyed Home at the start of 2020. I've lost my yoga habit at present though.

Totally off topic, but what are GFA 10K times, @AuntieStella? I honestly only thought marathons had GFA - something shorter to aim for would be a nice lockdown distraction...??!

IRun4Me · 05/01/2021 18:20

Day 5 done. So far managed a run every day

AuntieStella · 05/01/2021 18:34

I've carried on nicely. Little run every day.

I can still feel how horribly unfit I became - and getting out there when it's tough is a mental challenge as much as a physical one

Redcrayons · 05/01/2021 18:38

Day 5 ✅
First time after work in the dark and it was a bit more of a struggle to get out. Might try an early one tomorrow.

Chocolateteabag · 05/01/2021 19:02

Managed a while 2k today ConfusedHmm
The paths around me are still all compacted ice so had to make do with a quick road run round the block again as also homeschooling from today

Hopefully I can get a longer run in this weekend which will mean the 1.5-2k's every day inbetween will keep being achievable for my legs

AuntieStella · 05/01/2021 19:14

It's not such a big thing for the shorter distances.

There are quite a lot published for marathons and halfs, but I only found a couple of club ones for 10k - but hell, I'll take that! Or you could put your GFA marathon time into a comparison chart, and use what it spits out for shorter distances.

For 5k, I looked obsessively at parkrun results pages to find the 70% for my age (which I've achieved, but it was 18months ago) and 75% - close but not there yet!

At the moment, my aim is to take my Garmin estimated VO2 max from 'good' to 'excellent'

GinnieHempstock · 05/01/2021 19:40

No tun today, but 20 minutes on the rower and 10 minutes yoga.

Taswama · 05/01/2021 22:06

Yoga and a walk today. Hopefully I can get a run in tomorrow.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/01/2021 14:39

I didn't manage yesterday. I did contemplate Adriene's Yoga for when you feel dead inside... but didn't quite muster the energy.
A combination of Life and hormones.
I think it's the first RED day since 2018 where I've done nothing.

That said I did have an active day doing deep cleaning so wasn't sedentary.

That age grading stuff is interesting @auntiestella.
I'd have guessed my age grading would have been better the longer the race, as I hate short distances. But actually my 5k comes out the best (72) and my half the worst (69). Am surprised!

Chocolateteabag · 06/01/2021 18:07

RED6 done - 5.4K
Got some Yaktrax Run grips as we still have a lot of compacted ice and snow - slow going but feels better to have gone a bit further today
Longer run planned for Saturday

Redcrayons · 06/01/2021 18:43

Red day 6 - done. For some reason my usual 5k route was 0.5 kilometre longer than every other day Confused

Legs still feel ok, but I think I might drop down to a run/walk tomorrow.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 06/01/2021 18:43

Well done all. 1 mile skate round the block today. It's vile out there. Did a home band workout on Tuesday and have done Adrienne daily.

GinnieHempstock · 06/01/2021 19:32

5.38km run today, cold but layered up and enjoyed it more than I was expecting.

Taswama · 06/01/2021 21:49

Nearly had a run today, got all my kit on and got to front door but decided to have half an hour reading in bed instead!
But did have a walk this morning and 2 yoga sessions (Adrienne and a live one)

CalmConfident · 07/01/2021 08:05

Was planning to run thus morn in g but far too icy

Redcrayons · 07/01/2021 13:30

Day 7 done.

Bumped into a friend on my way and she asked if she could run with me, which was nice. Except we pretty much walked the whole way, so my slowest one yet. Mind you I’m not complaining about an easy one today, Legs are getting tired.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/01/2021 23:24

Well done to those keeping going. My mojo has not returned since running away on day 4. Homeschool, hormones and sheer bloody cold have the better of me at present.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 08/01/2021 09:50

@bogrollBOGOF do what you need to do. I feel much better for starting at least.

Short plod/walk in the ice yesterday and Adrienne day 6.

Today I'm going to 'netwalk' and do Adrienne day 7

Taswama · 08/01/2021 14:34

Finally managed a run today. Has warmed up since yesterday but still a cold wind. 3.3 miles.

FloconDeNeige · 08/01/2021 14:46

I’d like to do this but we’ve got 4 feet of snow here and it’s impossible to run. Maybe I can do HIIT indoors.

Go for it! Any exercise is a good thing.

(She says hypocritically in her pjs)

I've done my 5th day, a couple of miles of walk. Definitely not a running mood.

Taswama · 09/01/2021 19:57

Took DC for a run, about 5k including the 5 min walk at the beginning and end. We've been doing C25K for months but only about once a week during term time so not making huge amounts of progress.

AuntieStella · 09/01/2021 20:15

I'm still way behind my previous fitness, but I can feel it coming back!

I've run 8 of the 9 days in January (walked instead on one of them) and have done an online HIIT session at home (ouch!)

Next week I plan to run 6 days (1 day walking as rest/recovery) but will walk plus HIIT or pilates if icy
