Just that, how much exercise do you do a week? I definitely don’t do enough but just wondered how much exercise people really do around children/work etc?

I’m the queen of injuries, I run, so I’m quite often off for periods of time. Every time I come back to it, the first 6/8 weeks are the biggest slog until you get fit enough to enjoy it.

I think a lot of people quit in those first 6 weeks before their fitness start to increase to make it feel a bit easier.

However as someone told me ‘it never gets easier, you just get faster’ or stronger, or leaner, whatever your goal is.

Some days I can barely keep my eyes open sitting on the sofa but I know if I go to the class I’m booked for I’ll be fine and I’ll feel better.

You’ll never regret a workout!

Againfaster · 17/05/2018 12:51

I average around 15k steps a day, mainly commute and dog walk.

3 x 1 hour crossfit sessions through the week
then maybe 2 hours in gym on a weekend

EnormousDormouse · 17/05/2018 12:53

2-3 body pump
2 spin
1 yoga
And just added Combat back in - for all the Spin I do I still nearly died in the first class so still a long way to go with my fitness.

ChocAuVin · 17/05/2018 13:49

Cycle to work mon - fri = 25 miles pw
30 min walk each lunchtime mon - fri
Dog walk 30 mins every day
Have nearly completed 30 day Shred again — 20 mins circuit training every day
After the Shred I’ll find a similar 20 min daily workout as I’m really seeing results Smile

AnnabelleLecter · 17/05/2018 14:02

Dog walk at least 1 and a 1/2 hours a day.
Gym twice a week
Walk to work once a week
Swimming once a week

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 06/06/2018 13:01

Whatever I can. Cycled to train station today, willl prob do yoga tonight. Circuits yesterday . Walk a lot -10000 is a low day for me. I cycle in the summer. More indoors stuff in the winter. Lots of at home weights.

But lots of my workouts are only 20 minutes long as I work/have the kids

LikeSilver · 06/06/2018 13:09

I walk a lot - at least 10k steps a day. Run 4/5 days a week for half an hour at a time and do weights at the gym 3/4 days a week. I do a Body Pump class at the weekend - I enjoy it but with the class schedule between kids and work I can only get to that one. I was sedentary just a few years ago but have much more energy now that I do a lot more. I wouldn’t say I’m particularly slim (size 12) but I am strong and fit. Feel much healthier for it.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 05/07/2018 21:18

atm I tend to aim for most weeks

A run (usually 4-6k)
Body attack
Body balance
Legs workout

Another cardio workout eg bodystep for 30-60mins

This thread is making me feel lazy though, I thought I was doing ok!

WanderingWavelet · 06/07/2018 10:47

I walk a lot - at least 10k steps a day

My PT says this is the basic everyone should do, and to come & tell him when I average 25k steps a day. My current average is around 14k steps a day.

My exercise routine each week is
1 PT session per week, with a focus on strength & lifting (PB 75k dead lift) - it's an "Everything hurts and I'm dying" hour.
1 to 2 Pump classes per week
2 days I run, or do a Spin class
3 hours of ballet
2-3 hours contemporary, street or jazz dance
At least 1 Strength work out in addition to my PT session

I aim to do something every day except Saturday which is my rest day.

WanderingWavelet · 06/07/2018 10:53

Meant to say, I'll be 60 later this year. I've never been fitter since the first phase of the aerobics/pump fashion in the 1980s. I have sacrificed a housecleaner for a PT each week - my regime is about keeping going for as long as possible!

unexpectedgift · 06/07/2018 17:10

I just started using these resistance leggings called Sweetflexx. They burn extra calories shape and tone my legs.

SocksRock · 06/07/2018 17:25

I went from nothing much at all when I was working 3 days a week with 3dc under 7. Once the youngest was at school I ramped it up, I now run 5 days a week totalling around 50km a week, cycle to work (30min each way) once a week and aim for a minimum of 12,000 steps per day.

Thesearepearls · 06/07/2018 17:32

I'm 51 and have never been properly fit TBH

I do my 10,000 steps a day and when walking the dog I tend to do it half running to make sure I close the exercise circle on my Apple watch

Beyond that I go to the gym three times a week for what seems like a workout that is something half killing me but my gym's wrist band tells me this is a "moderate work-out"

I'm not remotely fit despite really quite wanting to be - but my job is ridiculously busy.

Rochelaise18 · 16/07/2018 01:45

It varies depending on my work shifts. If I've got a day off, I'll do 100 miles on the bike, sometimes more, sometimes less. It depends on the route I pick. If I'm on an overnight or early morning/late night finish, I'll go to the gym when I finish work. That's in addition to walking the dog and being constantly on the go at work. I'm aiming for the Mallorca 312 next year, though may only manage the 232 route, but I'll decide once there.

MistressDeeCee · 16/07/2018 02:12

Not enough.

I've recently started to get off the bus 2 stops earlier on way from work, and walk rest of way.

I have a Resistance Band and use it when I'm watching TV. I'm going to start squatting as soon as I wake up in the morning, even if it's just 25 to start with.

I've dusted off my weights and will lift every day - Ive no excuse for not doing so.

I'm not hugely overweight but in terms of muscle and tone its use it or lose it.

I used to be very fit, solely via home exercise, and I want that look and feeling back again.

I'm really impressed by the exercise pp's do, oh to have the motivation and time management skills...

AvonCallingBarksdale · 16/07/2018 18:10

I run 2.5K twice a week and do a Parkrun in a Saturday. I do a 7 minute HIIT workout on the other 4 days and also walk a lot. No Fitbit so I don’t know how many steps.

Khamseen · 17/07/2018 23:54

Crossfit x 4 times a week. Some classes are an hour others 2 hours. I run 5 x a week (5k per run). I do yoga for an hour a day too. I used to be a couch potato until 10 years ago until I discovered crossfit and absolutely love it. I used to be one of these people who hated exercise - I'm a bit addicted to exercising now.

lovemyboys25 · 16/08/2018 16:13

oh goodness, I knew I was bad but reading this thread makes me feel even worse.

I need to get into exercise I am overweight and unhappy I just can't find the motivation and I have neck issues which always seem to flare up when I try to get energetic!

Any tips for getting motivated and find something I enjoy?

goldopals · 18/08/2018 01:21

I do parkrun once a week and do workout videos from YouTube every day. Most of the time I do the boxing workouts from Popsugar but go old school every now and again with Tae Bo. On average it would be a minimum of 40 minutes per day

RedDwarves · 18/08/2018 01:47

Walk my dogs every morning before work. This is usually 6-8.5km a day.

Park down the street from my work, and walk back to my car during lunch, so I end up doing the equivalent of a walk around the block by the end of the day.

Swim on the weekends.

That's it. I've never struggled with my weight and eat well, but the gym doesn't interest me and I am a gym sceptic (that is, I am concerned about the impact current fitness trends have on peoples' bodies in the longer term). Walking and swimming are both low impact, free exercises which do wonders for your cardiac health and are great for stamina.
