Just that, how much exercise do you do a week? I definitely don’t do enough but just wondered how much exercise people really do around children/work etc?

Walk to and from work 2x a day 5x a week = 15 miles on total
Gym: (pretty much next door to me) ×5 a week which consists of-
Stairmaster 30mins pday
Treadmil 15-20mins
Rowing 10mins
30 mins weights....

All so I can eat what I want! Xx

Mamia15 · 10/05/2018 21:29

i have a sedentary job - sitting on my arse in meetings or at my desk.

I go to the gym 5 times a week - 2 x body pump and 3 x spin classes.

lastnamefirstfirstnamelast · 10/05/2018 21:42

Same mamia15

I'm in a sitdown job so exercise is crucial, i gained so much when i stopped for 6months

Ridiculouslyso · 10/05/2018 21:44

Run every other day at least (min 4 miles), spin once a week, walk for 1 hour on rest days. Love it.

TalkFastThinkSlow · 10/05/2018 22:26

At the moment I'm only managing 15 minutes of yoga most days, and a walk at lunch time with one of my work colleagues, for 40 mins to an hour.

I have a toddler, and we all have to leave the house by 7:15 so DP and I can get to work on time. Were home at 7pm. Ds is in bed by 8, I'm in bed by 9 cos I'm knackered. I'm only up now cos I was watching Eurovision!

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 16/05/2018 21:12

Gym 5 days per week 60-90 mins cardio/weights/classes
Walk 2-3 miles per day.

Mamia15 · 16/05/2018 22:21

To those who say they're too knackered - I find that going to the gym has improved my sleep and that I now have more energy than before. I feel much more alert at work.

Onthewrongsideof30 · 16/05/2018 22:38

Work full time + long commute
1 DSS
TTC
Monday - Boot camp - run there and back
Tues-Friday F45 (HIIT workout)
Saturday- parkrun

  • try to get out for a long run Sunday or before work, but DH normally tells me off. Slim 8/10. Very careful diet 90% but have wine / meals out when I want. Completely addicted and wouldn't have it any other way.
TheClitterati · 17/05/2018 07:07

I've transformed my work exercise regime over last 12 months. I sat at a desk all day and had no time at all to exercise. So I started to walk to work. And then home. And this moved onto jogging.

Now I walk or jog most days and I work at a standing desk. No longer on my bum all day - I'm on my feet. Feel great for it.

Pippioddstocking · 17/05/2018 07:37

I run approx 50-60 miles per week , all on hilly trail. I also do 2 weights sessions at the gym . Active job , dog walking each day and running around after 2 children when I'm home .
If I dont exercise I feel sluggish , like I am too exhausted to even think properly . My body also seems to grind to a halt ,normal bodily functions cease to happen!!

I do find it is a balance between doing enough and not getting totally exhausted though .

kktpj · 17/05/2018 07:48

At least 10000 steps a day
Cycle to and from work....not far
2 x gym classes
1 Pilates
Dog walk 3 times a week
2 x hour long walk at weekend
Really only manage this as I'm part time and older children away to university....one 7 year old at home

Phillipa12 · 17/05/2018 07:48

Im a single mum with 3 dc under 8 and i work pt.
Mon, buggy run
Tues, buggy run or you tube tabbata workout
Wed, buggy run
Thurs, run on my own 😁
Fri, cycle with trailer
Sat and Sun depending on if the dc are with their dad its either run/tabbata work out or 2 tabbata workouts.
I have got to the stage in my life were if i dont exercise everything goes wobbly very quickly, that and i love my food and dont want to restrict my eating habits. I do have lots more energy and certainly sleep well at night.

silverpenguin · 17/05/2018 07:52

Impressed by some PPs!

I've never done loads of exercise even when I was single and pre DC. These days I manage a dance class per week and lots of walking (usually 10000 steps) as part of my commute.

PollyPelargonium52 · 17/05/2018 07:59

I have just started going to a weekly aqua aerobics class which lasts one hour.

Like others I am too knackered in the evenings and go on my weekly day off being Friday afternoons.

I wish I had energy to go in the evenings also! As it is invigorating and fun and even helps my stomach which I thought was beyond redemption lol.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/05/2018 08:48

The levels of activity on this thread are totally unrepresentative of the British adult population by the way. The vast majority of adults do nothing at all. Not even hit 3000 steps a day. More than 50% of people aged 40-60 do less than 10 minutes brisk walking a month. Not a day or a week. A month.

Also sorry but the school run walk / housework doesn't count unless it raises your heart rate for a sustained period. I know. That sucks.

It is so hard to fit any exercise in with kids, work, other commitments isn't it?

I do 3-4 HIIT sessions at the gym plus s couple of runs and a couple of weights sessions. I've been doing that for s couple of years now.

QueenOfMyWorld · 17/05/2018 09:03

Jog/v fast walk 2/3 miles 3 times a week

PollyPelargonium52 · 17/05/2018 10:00

I guess we could include walking up and down the stairs ten minutes a day. That would be a good overall cardio. Nonstop not spread out over the day I mean.

I might add that to my efforts.

ohfortuna · 17/05/2018 11:50

More than 50% of people aged 40-60 do less than 10 minutes brisk walking a month😮
Mind boggling

BitOutOfPractice · 17/05/2018 11:54

I know! It's mind boggling

The research came out last year [https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/aug/24/around-6-million-middle-aged-english-people-take-no-exercise Link to a press article here]]

BitOutOfPractice · 17/05/2018 11:55

Sorry the link didn't work

Clicky link - I hope!

tigercub50 · 17/05/2018 11:59

Oh dear! I work p/t & have DD9 but basically do bugger all! I used to do karate, Pilates & another core class. Must get organised for Pilates again as it was really good for me. I’ve actually lost loads of weight, partly cos I stand up at work, but I need to get toned. I miss swimming too. I go with DD but it’s not the same.Walking is something I enjoy but DH & DD don’t particularly unless there is a purpose. And I keep seeing classes I fancy then not doing anything about signing up.

tigercub50 · 17/05/2018 12:00

Maybe I should sign up to classes with a friend to stay motivated.

ohfortuna · 17/05/2018 12:00

Mind you I can't say I actually care how much exercise other people do
I exercise a lot because I really enjoy it and I have quite a lot of free time, but if I hated it and I had no spare time I doubt I would do much

even relatively low level things like walking I find very therapeutic, it really lifts my state of mind, I guess if walking just made you feel worse you wouldn't do it?

BitOutOfPractice · 17/05/2018 12:05

Tigercub do it now while it's in your mind. Sign up for something now

ohfortuna · 17/05/2018 12:30

I guess that if you've not exercising much in your 20s 30s and 40s your overall level of health is not likely to be that good when you're in your 50s and 60s
so your inclination to exercise will be much less than it would be had you've been fitter when you were younger
Well that's my theory... just off the top of my head
