Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

minesapintofwine · 20/08/2017 09:24

And she's off! Good luck bubble hope you enjoy it! Think of the medal and the proud feeling Smile

RMC123 · 20/08/2017 09:42

Good luck bubble Grin

wineusuallyhelps · 20/08/2017 10:26

Looking forward to hearing from bubble!

I've just done 10 miles. My overall pace was on target but I had a "crisis of confidence" at 7 miles. Had a gel but the rest of the way was still a real struggle. I'm a bit disappointed, but I know it's silly!

Good luck to anyone running today.

wineusuallyhelps · 20/08/2017 10:28

Mammy hope the 10k goes well. 4 weeks till my HM too! I wonder if we're doing the same one?!

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 20/08/2017 10:35

How did you go Bubble??!

Well I've gone totally to shit. Look at the picture my half m just posted on facebook Sad Sad Sad I have run twice in the last 3 weeks. Didn't run this weekend because... dunno why really. Because I feel paralysed with fear and stupidity for thinking I could do this. I'm putting on weight. My knees are buggered. I've done no strength training for a month. I worked so, so hard for this and now I can't do the last bit.

Pikachu yes you can!! I have run three times in the last 2 weeks. I have three weeks today until my half. But we will do it!

Hoolit · 20/08/2017 11:32

Go Bubble good luck.

Pik you got this! You still have two weeks just concentrate on strength and stamina, how about some swims to go easy on those knees and the rest will follow on the day.

I've just got back from 9.5 miles, not done anything all week as lost ddog and I've been devastated had a constant headache all week and just felt shit so thought better drag myself out today and by shell it was a struggle. Everything hurt, my shoe rubbed, my knees hurt my hip hurt m, my arse hurt and i felt like a dead weight Sad but it's done and i need to get back to it this week.

Hoolit · 20/08/2017 11:34

*hell it was hell!

mogglemoo · 20/08/2017 11:34

Pikachu,

You will manage, you've run more than a half in the past. It's nerves.

How about putting on your trainers and just going out to concentrate on enjoying the fresh air and surroundings. Even if it's 1k. No pressure.

I had that feeling 2 weeks ago. Your residual fitness will be better than you anticipate.

You can do this!

mogglemoo · 20/08/2017 11:39

My training for GNR has been ok-ish. I can now run 18.24k, although it does hurt towards the end. Not sure about the final 3k...

My number came on Friday, making it all a bit real 😳. I'm I'm the pink, zone J, so if you see a 6'1" woman wearing a Scotland cap and pair of sunglasses as an 'invisibility cloak', running very, very slowly- that's me!

minesapintofwine · 20/08/2017 11:40

pikachu you know it's just a crisis of confidence. We've all had it on this thread!
But you can definitely do this! You've run some fantastic distances and have been very committed imo. I totally get the 'paralysed by fear' feeling. I feel a bit sick thinking about it. But when you start moving on the day that feeling will go. Just get some short easy runs in to gI've you confidence and look after the knees.

I ran a decent 5k this am but came back with aching quad/hip referrel. So of course I'm paranoid about injury now. I took some ibuprofen and have gone back to religiously taking glucosamine lately and it feels better now. It's enough to worry me though.

Plan for this week. Very easy 7k tomorrow which I think I'll make a trail run as it's easier to run on and slower. Then wed I definitely want to go out for 12/13 km. Push it to 16km the following week. 18 the following week. And 20-21km the following. Then tapering before the race. I'll stick to the speedwork on Fridays and 5k at tempo on Sundays. Early in the week I'll get in some 7/10km recovery runs. Does this sound oK? It's basically the routine I had before it all went tits up and was effective, but worried it's not enough long runs. I did manage a few 9 miles runs two weeks ago.

minesapintofwine · 20/08/2017 11:44

hoolit I am so sorry about ddogg no wonder you hated that run.

moogle that made me laugh!

Hoolit · 20/08/2017 11:51

Thanks mines

moggle I'll be watching for you Grin I'm in the green zone I

mogglemoo · 20/08/2017 12:36

Ooh, you must be fast Hoolit! Not much chance of you seeing me as you whizz up the route.

That's sad about ddog, I'm sorry. 😔

RMC123 · 20/08/2017 13:29

Hoolit I am in the green zone too

Hoolit · 20/08/2017 13:39

Thanks Mog he is sorely missed. You'll overtake me, it'll be you whizzing past me if today is anything to go by!! I could barely pick up my feet and clacked my ankles more than once.

high five RMCSmile

HRHPrincessMegan · 20/08/2017 16:19

I've been off-line, celebrating wedding anniversary with DH. Hope your races went well today bubbles and mammy. Sorry to hear about your dog hoolit.

My dog is a 3 year old mini-schnauzer mines. She's normally very energetic but I'd never run with her before. And I probably won't again!

My run schedule has been erratic of late. I ran 7 miles on Friday and 8 miles today. Both were fine time wise - I'm just below 10min miles but today felt hard. After about 6 miles everything felt sore and it was tough to think that the HM would be that again plus another 1 mile. I feel fine now though - possibly because my next run is on Tuesday.

Doing additional exercise to running I think will be key for me over the next 5 weeks. Yesterday I went back to boot camp for the first time 6 weeks. It didn't leave me feeling destroyed but my legs really felt it and so did my core.

You've done the work pic. You just need to get out there for a short run and get your confidence back. Everyone is rooting for you.

BubbleAnimal · 20/08/2017 18:14

That was amazing!!!

I set out too fast I think, did just under 10 minute miles for the first two, and then slowed to 10.30. but come mile 8 (it's two laps) I hit a wall. Walked it off, started a slower jog at an 11 something mile, and stuck to that. Jogged the whole way after that, other than the two water stations where I stopped fully, drank lots of water and coke (it was hot) and I came in just under 2hr 25 which was my target time, with even a wee sprint finish! Was a lovely first half - came 265th out of 315 runners.

minesapintofwine · 20/08/2017 18:22

Well done bubble you are truly awesome Star

RMC123 · 20/08/2017 19:25

Well done Bubble ! Star

shortaris1 · 20/08/2017 19:54

Well done Bubble that's awesome!

Pik you can do this. Just get out there.

Sorry to hear about your dog Hoolit. You did your miles regardless.

I've got 6 weeks til my half and I'm a but panicked as I was meant to do 9 miles today but had to stop at 2.5 as I had agonising pain in my heel. Think its my fault as I went up on tip toes going up a hill. Tried to run through but just too sore. Never had this before. HRH I've been doing strength and core stuff and its definitely helped

Plan sounds good mines

How long to the GNR those who are doing it? I'd love to do it next year.
Wine I should do 10 next week if my silly foot behaves!

HRHPrincessMegan · 20/08/2017 20:11

Well done bubble! You must be elated.

Hope your heel is okay short

Tupperwarelid · 20/08/2017 22:16

Well done Bubble I hope your legs are ok tomorrow!

I managed 10 miles today but the last mile was hell. 5 weeks to go here
