Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

Hope interview went well pikachu. Managed 8.3 miles last night. Was aiming for 9 but it was a parking the car issue rather than a running issue that thwarted me. Pleased with that as it was actually quite warm and I have already expressed my views on running in any kind of heat. Hoping to get up early and get a 5k in tomorrow. Our elderly visitor is needing more support than before and has been 'wandering' a little in the night so slightly nervous about running too far away from the homestead!

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 26/07/2017 21:36

You're all very very good getting out for runs...i was meant to do 3 miles tonight but after an evening early hours of drinkibg at a friends and a 5am wakeup from my lovely ds, today was a write off. Was intending to still go but he took nearly 2 hrs to go to sleep and I just couldn't get done in time to get home before dark. I live quite rurally and do not know what im going to do as the nights draw in.
I've got too options...run before dh leaves for work at 7 but this means going at 6 and he would have to try and get ready around DS who is always up by 5...i go it every bloody morning mind you so I guess he could! Or go to London as planned with my friend, probably have a slightly boozy afternoon and try and go when I get home...unlikely...as long as I het the runs on though I guess it doesn't matter if it's done not to schedule? Just have to fit them in I guess. 4 miles to do this Saturday I am scared...

revolution909 · 26/07/2017 22:09

How did the interview go Pikachu ? Well done everybody! Great mileage!! Youcantscareme I think what matter is the weekly miles not so much the schedule. Schedule matters with very long runs (IMO).

I'm driving off to France on Friday, still no idea how I'll train for 10 days, when I'll be drunk at least 50% of the time :/

minesapintofwine · 26/07/2017 22:20

youcant I wouldn't go for a run after drinking but maybe that's just me. I'd be worried about dehydration etc. It's definitely fine to complete running programmes to your own schedule. All programmes suggest a long run on a Sunday but it actually suits me to do it in the week.

Hope interview went well pikachu!

I went for 9 miles tonight. It was slow /jogging pace and went well, and I saw a snake! Shock However after 8 miles I didnt feel good and came home and puked Blush It's not the furthest or fastest run I've done so assume I need to look at my fuel intake (I'm on a diet which probably doesn't help) as recently I have been feeling queezy on longer runs and have also had runners trots sorry occasionally. I know it's not a given to feel this was as have run further and felt fine.

If I don't sort it I'll be crossing the half finish line on all fours with my head in a bag, demanding my medal!

RMC123 · 27/07/2017 07:53

Minesapint! Can relate to everything you said! Hydration is a problem for me. Always a balance between drinking enough and too much . Pelvic floor is not what it was after 4 large babies ! Sorry, TMI!
5 km done this morning. All a bit frantic as mind on just getting home but pleased I got out. Might be my last run before Monday ! Paper Training schedules just do not fit with my real life situation

minesapintofwine · 27/07/2017 09:13

RMC due to various reasons my bladder control is non existent. I frequently have to stop for a wee/wet myself Blush.

Well done on the 5km

I don't feel very good this am. I didn't have a good night's sleep at all. I never do after evening workouts but unfortunately have to do them when dc off school. Anyone else get this?
I think it's a combination of puking, poor, uncomfortable sleep, but I feel wiped out this am. Luckily we have a quiet day planned but makes me think I must have done something wrong last night Confused

sendcoffee · 27/07/2017 19:48

Running has been very off this week again. Need to get it sorted so my alarm is set for 5am and I'll be out!
Need to do at least 5km tomorrow and then work up from there.

Early morning runs are the key for me I think. Just getting so exhausted by the end of the day (waiting on thyroid function test results) that I think getting out first thing and getting it done means I could possibly have quieter afternoons if I bribe the 2 yr old with biscuits & peppa pig 🐷

sendcoffee · 27/07/2017 19:52

I name changed too! Was @mumthatruns Grin

minesapintofwine · 27/07/2017 20:21

sendcoffee I much prefer morning run so but the school holidays is putting paid to that (Dh works nights so not able to get out early). I'm going to have to suck it up.

Today was crap, not sure why, hopeful will feel up to some sprints tomorrow evening.

Rankellior · 27/07/2017 22:28

minesapint I struggle with sleep after exercising at night, and I'm a poor sleeper anyway so I've had to change my routine. Lunchtime runs are working well but I can do 3.6-4 miles max before getting back to work. I'd love to be that person who gets up early and bangs out a 10k but I like my bed too much.
Going to struggle with my long run this weekend as we have plans and then horribly busy week next week so not feeling very optimistic. I might have to become a 5am runner at this rate!

minesapintofwine · 27/07/2017 23:01

rankellior do it! I go out early on Sundays now and I love it.

Why do you think we don't sleep well after? Any tips for this for the next few weeks? Because of dh's work schedule I'm going between 5 and 7.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 28/07/2017 03:09

Hi everyone. I got the job!! Panic stations getting everything in place to start Monday.

Just been for what was supposed to be a 10k but for some reason was only an 8k. Can't work out how that happened. Time was fab though, and it's better than nothing. Will run again tomorrow or Sunday. God know how I'm going to fit anything in next week.

Congratulations pikachu!

Hoolit · 28/07/2017 09:42

Well done on the job Pika hope you don't mind me joining the thread. I have my second half in Sept and was hoping to be better prepared and further on then I am.
I did a 10k at Easter but for various reasons am still only just at 10k now Blush think just a combination of injury, life getting in the way and thinking I had loads of time.
Panic is starting to set in!

RMC123 · 28/07/2017 10:37

Congrats Pikachu and welcome Hoolit.

Was planning to do a short run this morning but have woken up feeling Yuk. Couldn't drag my bum out of bed. Have a riding lesson today with my DD so at least I will get some exercise. Although my DSs regularly informed me that horse riding isn't a sport or exercise! Tell that to my thighs!!
Might get out for a run later when my DH gets home.

minesapintofwine · 28/07/2017 14:18

I'm thinking of skipping my sprint training later. I've kind of made a pact with myself. If Dh takes dc to rugby I'll go then. If rugby is called off I'll skip it. It'll be the first session I've missed and training going well but I'm tired and it's raining (I can promise this would never happen with a morning run Grin)

minesapintofwine · 28/07/2017 14:20

Oh and welcome Hoolit you will be fine!

Hoolit · 28/07/2017 18:33

Thank you for the welcome. I'm having a day of rest as yesterday was full on, 10k in the morning a coast walk in the afternoon as I forgot it was netball training in the evening!
Going to try a 10k on Sunday morning then maybe a hill session on Tuesday.
How often are you all getting out and what does your training consist of? I think I need to increase my runs to 3 a week and concentrate on building stamina in between.
It's so hard to run alone, I find it hard to keep running and not just walk!! I'm not a natural at all!

minesapintofwine · 28/07/2017 19:56

hoolit I run 4 times a week. One fast 5k, one interval/Hill session, one easy 7-10k or 7k trail running (which I love), and one long, slow run. Tonight though, I have completely wussed out as it's raining hard and I'm tired! I usually stick to it though.

Hoolit · 29/07/2017 00:08

minesapint the weather is awful at the moment it's really off putting easy to see why you wussed out!
I try to do a hill run each week but it's tailed off, must get back to it this week as it makes a huge difference.

mammymammyIRL · 29/07/2017 07:53

Hi guys I haven't run in a week & this thread is gone from tio will catch up with ye later. Doing bootcamp this morning and a 5k colour run tomo & back in the game for next week Grin

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 29/07/2017 09:50

If i manage to get out for a long one tomorrow I'm going to trial 'snacking while running ' with some gel or peanut butter maybe. Any tips? (Can't do gummy sweets - don't eat gelatin)

Rankellior · 29/07/2017 10:36

Well done on the job pika and welcome hoolit

I run 3 days a week which with work is about as much as I can manage. Managed to drag myself out of bed this morning and did a 10k with the dog before breakfast. Was up too late to be able to replicate during the week but at least I've done my training for the weekend and can now enjoy a few glasses of wine tonight.

sendcoffee · 29/07/2017 10:49

Going out for a run later on today. DH has to help MIL with some jobs ready for solicitors on Monday.

Hoping to do a minimum of 5K but maybe try and push for 4.5 miles.

A local running shop tonne is doing free training runs from next weekend that I'm really looking forward to and should help get me half marathon ready!

I've stuck the distances on a picture in case anyone is interested.

I usually aim for 4 runs a week, so apart from these runs with the shop, should I just do whatever distance feels good for the others?
