It has been really hot here this week for April (25 degrees) and it woukd be lovely to swim outside but none of the outdoor pools open till June! Lesson didnt go so well this week. I couldn't get coordinated. Why is front crawl so hard for me?!

Hissy · 08/04/2017 12:22

Allegretto, it's hard for everyone! Stick at it!!

bruffin · 08/04/2017 19:35

Thank you, was very stiff last night but gee

bruffin · 09/04/2017 17:38

Feel ok today. Did get cramp on lap 182 but stopped , hung on to rope and stretched it out. Felt sorry for my tracker, bless him, he sat there for the whole time, must have been so boredGrin

That's an amazing achievement Bruffin, well done!!!!

lljkk · 09/04/2017 21:27

I feel very humbled by that 5k...

Hot hot day so almost no one else in the pool for the late afternoon session. Last Thursday was quiet, too. (thumbs up, nice to not have to wait 4 anyone). I bought some 2nd hand goggles on ebay... They leak. Oh well! Another brand/model to cross off my list.

bruffin · 10/04/2017 17:23

Thank you lljkk.
The trouble with googles they only need the tiniest of tears to ruin the suction. Took me weeks to find out why my previius pair wear leaking. I do like my aquasphere vistas i got for xmas

I have to use vaseline on my hands to be able to cope with swimming for more than 10 minutes because my skin is very sensitive to chlorine and prone to wrinkling which gives me the absolute heebie jeebies.
Today a woman stopped me as I was pushing off the wall at 500m and said "did I see you putting vaseline on your hands in the changing rooms?". I replied yes- I use it as a barrier cream. She proceded to berate me because she takes her grandson to the pool and the bar might be greasy if I have touched it and he is told to hold on. I just told her I was not prepared to discuss my skin issues with her and swam away but it left me feeling very upset and a bit cross. Swimming for me is only possible because of the vaseline- I really cannot be in water for more than a couple of minutes without it because of the phobia and because it makes my hands itch with the chlorine.
Is there an alternative to vaseline though I am wondering? And am I the worst swimmer ever to do this? I wear a cap to keep my hair from filling the pool with hairballs and I wear overshoes in the changing rooms so I dont tramp outdoor shoes through the wet floor to make mud but now I feel guilty because I protect my skin.

I have been prescribed swimming because its low impact and I can do it without it affecting my back pain, I love swimming now I have discovered protecting my hands but now I'm nervous to go back in case she tries to have another go at me.

Hissy · 10/04/2017 18:31

nora PLEASE don't worry! She genuinely had no right to say a thing to you.

The amount of Vaseline you are using will probably be negligible and so it won't affect her dgs on the offchance she takes him.

Genuinely, it's not a real problem for her, she's bonkers and making her bonkers your problem

Hissy · 10/04/2017 18:32

If in doubt, just deny, deny, deny..nowt to do with her, or anyone.

flamingnoravera · 10/04/2017 18:38

Thanks Hissy I like the idea of her being bonkers. I bet she would put vaseline on her grandson's skin withouth a second thought if he had problems with chlorine.

rightsofwomen · 10/04/2017 22:53

nora I agree with hissy, ignore the meddling woman!

You could check with the pool I guess just to put your mind at ease, but honestly if you think about the amount of hair product, deodorant, lotions, potions and corn plasters that must come off people, it seems odd to worry about a blob of Vaseline.

I forgot my swimsuit! Didn't have time to go back and get it so had to buy a new one. It's a bit short so pulling on my backside a bit (such a good look!) but otherwise ok.

It was ladies night so I did wonder if they'd let me swim in my knicks (no bra on)!

1K done. Stayed right till very end of session. Guards were a bit timely with their pulling in of lane markers and standing there ready to pull the cover over, but I ignored them.

Oh and DS1 is MAD! He was minding (sleeping) DS2 but his mates called to say they were going to the park in the dark to lark about. He couldn't go obv. I gave him my little pot of nuts and choc I was saving to say sorry, only to find he'd eaten my edamame and pea salad! We are quits!

I went for my never going to be empty again pool (not so scary tho) time

Ended up with a lane to myself, then hopped in the fast lane and stayed there. Yeah of course I wasn't fast enough for that lane, but I kept going. Mixture of front and back, total was a shoulder leadening 2.7k

I may have to skip pool tomorrow and have a bit of jog instead

Hissy · 11/04/2017 00:23

right love the suit!

It's really nice!

The woman who got in next to me had the same suit as I sometimes wear, the M&S shaped boyleg one

SkiBike007 · 11/04/2017 08:10

Managed a swift 25mins last night but I had to wait till nearly closing time to go in aslots splashy speed boys in the lanes tonight. My DD trains in 2lanes for an hour so I sit and watch her waiting for the other lanes to quieten down. I find when it's all "wavy" even with lane ropes I just can't swim very "relaxed" it takes me ages to settle into and relax into the water. I like to fast plod up and down not have to stop every lenght as speed boys thrash out a lenght. We also had family swim at the outdoor pool on Sunday which has re-opened but I managed to really sun-burn my neck Blush I was standing around a lot with our 5yr old. Can't wait for after Easter so I can swim on my lunch break there.

rightsofwomen · 13/04/2017 09:05

1.1k done this morning. No fools in the pool.

In other news I went to the pub with friends and ended up signing up for my first open water swim! 750m in Grafham Water in July. Grin
