Have anyone else just started marathon training and wants to support each other?

How much do you eat before the marathon Anglaise? What is carbo loading for you?

Good luck for your big day Imbroglio - what are you aiming for time wise again?

Imbroglio · 09/03/2016 23:15

Boobz I have porridge for breakfast and gels during the run on the day.

I set out to beat my pb which is 5.22, and would expire with pleasure if I achieved sub 5. I'm no athlete and I'm 50.

Last year it took me almost six hours due to a sore knee and missed training runs but I'm in a much better place this year fingers crossed!). Lots of swimming and spin classes to supplement the running.

CMOTDibbler · 10/03/2016 16:14

Good luck Anglaise, have a fab time

I'm working in Arizona this week, so have just been swimming in the gorgeous outdoor pool with sun on my back Grin, and will run after work on the trail if its light enough (at the foot of Camelback mountain).

Boobz · 11/03/2016 09:08

Wow Dibbler - that sounds gorgeous. I can't wait for summer to arrive properly here in Rome - we are at the pool every weekend with the nippers as it gets so damn hot. Love it.

Good luck Anglaise - have a great time! Come back and report soon!

Imbroglio · 11/03/2016 19:41

I can't stop EATING!

Boobz · 12/03/2016 06:51

ME NEITHER!

I ate so much yesterday, that DH asked if I was carbo loading. I wasn't, but that made me swap my long 20 mile from Sunday to this morning, so I can at least make yesterday's eat-a-thon feel like it was all in readiness for the mileage today!

Am not losing weight from this training schedule - am gaining weight. Ugh.

Imbroglio · 12/03/2016 07:46

I started gaining weight a few weeks ago, around the time the mileage cranked up to 15 miles. Only a few pounds. Hopefully it will drop off when we get back to normal.

Boobz · 13/03/2016 09:12

I am going to really watch what I eat this week, to see if I can kick start a downward trend again.

Ran 21 miles yesterday morning (managed to go a bit too far before turning back - my miles to KM conversion in my head wasn't quite accurate!) and the last 4 miles or so were hard. But I did it (the whole thing in 2:59 - I did the 20 miles in 2:52).

So onto the taper now. Am glad that is my longest run - not sure I could do much longer before the actual marathon!

Imbroglio · 13/03/2016 18:46

Well I did 20+ today and knocked 12 minutes off last week's time for the same run. Was a bit surprised as I found it very hard going (I don't have a gadget - I just leave my stopwatch going in the car) but pleased at having achieved such an improvement.

Imbroglio · 13/03/2016 18:48

Speedy Boobz! My run took me 4.26 hours! It was probably 22 miles. With hills and two loo stops.

karatekimmi · 13/03/2016 20:42

Well I did a half marathon today, really pleased with my run - a really steady start, and happy with a time of 2h 25m. I have a 20 mile race next weekend then its taper for me too.

Anglaise1 · 13/03/2016 20:44

So...
Barcelona marathon finished, it is really one to do, no major difficulties (except the slight hill for the never ending last 3kms), sunshine, loads of crowd support and music all the way round. I was on course for 3h30m until the 30km when my legs didn't obey my head and I finished at 3h35m03s. 7mn faster than Rome last year so a PB and about right for my HM time 1h42/44 so happy coach. 3h30 was a little too ambitions, you need to do a HM in 1h40 to realistically achieve that.
I never want to do another marathon again until the next one.
Good luck to all of you with the rest of the training and of course the race itself!

Imbroglio · 13/03/2016 21:09

Great time!

CMOTDibbler · 13/03/2016 21:47

Congratulations Anglaise, fabulous time

Boobz · 14/03/2016 07:13

OMG that's amazeballs - well done! No more marathons on the horizon then for 2016?

About to head out for a sharp 6 miles - may try and keep pace below 5 mins/km

Boobz · 14/03/2016 08:32

Did it! 4:59/km.

Am going to try to eat REALLY well this week, as I am getting quite cross that my fitness is obviously improving but the scales are not!

alp · 15/03/2016 08:32

Hello all! Can I join?

I am training for VLM - I have done it before and know (I think) what I should be doing but....why am I so nervous, why am I having a complete panic about not running enough long miles and why oh why did I even tell people I have a target time!!

If I was talking to anyone else I am sure (shameless boast) I would have lots of wise words and helpful comments.

Please come and talk me out of this spin!!

alp · 15/03/2016 08:34

Oh and well done on all the races already run!

Brighton is a lovely run, well supported and well organised. Remember sunscreen as I had very strange tan lines by the time I finished! Blush

Imbroglio · 15/03/2016 11:42

I got sunburn on the back of my legs at Brighton last year!

CMOTDibbler · 15/03/2016 11:57

Alp, I've been told that panicking is perfectly normal. I've been doing a lot of it myself! This will be my first (and only) marathon.

Anglaise1 · 15/03/2016 15:40

This will be my first (and only) marathon.
CMOT everyone says that, but a few hours after you'll want to do another one. I'm already contemplating one for next year, or maybe even the Autumn. No aches and pains at all, maybe I should have forced myself a bit more!

CMOTDibbler · 15/03/2016 16:30

I know, but unless I can get some surgery to stabilise my arm, I just can't do the long mileage as even bedecked in the best splints I can find its having an impact on my pain levels which isn't good. Tri lets me do the endurance sport while not causing too much problems - I swim one armed, bike is adapted

CMOTDibbler · 15/03/2016 16:35

Should have said, my left arm doesn't work due to an accident in 2010, and my wrist is fused, plus I have a nerve pain condition, so its not just overuse or anything

Imbroglio · 15/03/2016 20:49

Respec' CMOT.

Anglaise1 · 15/03/2016 21:15

Apologies for my comments cMOT,I had no idea about your arm injury.
I'm in awe that you are doing a marathon Star
