Have anyone else just started marathon training and wants to support each other?

OP posts:

20 mile long run today. Not pooped at all but wasn't going for race speed so not too bad, especially considering the wind and rain.

Imbroglio · 14/02/2016 19:17

15 miles again which went better than expected given the cold that will not shift.

What marathon training makes us do...

Anglaise1 · 14/02/2016 21:26

It is strange, but since I took up running seriously 2 years ago, I haven't had a cold. One started once, a couple of sneezes then disappeared. I'm sure the immune system is strengthened when you run (or at least mine seems to have!)

Boobz · 19/02/2016 15:57

9 miles today (have been away skiing so first chance to run since 16 miles last Friday).

Am doing 12 miles as per schedule on Sunday before going on ANOTHER skiing trip (life is hard).

But am supposed to be doing 18 mile next Friday - not sure if I can do that in the mountains? And then straight on a plane to the US for 4 days and nights for a conference - not sure when I will be able to fit it in?!

Argh.

Anglaise1 · 19/02/2016 17:06

All those mountain slopes will help with your training Boobz even if you don't do 18 miles.
I did my last really long run today, 20 miles in 3h2m so 6 minutes faster than last weeks long run. Could have done it faster but we have different speeds to keep to for each hour. Am hoping to do at least 3:35:00 now, would love 3:30:00 but the last 5kms of the marathon are uphill so it might be tough!

Imbroglio · 19/02/2016 18:16

Half Marathon on Sunday. I've still got this residual cough/runny nose so not very hopeful for a PB but think I'll get round.

karatekimmi · 20/02/2016 07:03

I'm attempting 17 miles today, after having a cough all week. I think I'll be fine, but I'm not looking forward to it!! I'm hoping for a time that begins with a 5, I'm really just hoping to finish it!

Boobz · 20/02/2016 07:10

It's all the slippy snowy roads I am worried about Anglaise!

Well done on 20 miles - I'm only a couple of week away from that now I think.

And good luck for your half marathon Imbroglio (am doing close to that today myself, when DH gets up) and also for you Karate - 17 miles is further than I have ever run so far!

karatekimmi · 21/02/2016 17:13

I bailed out after 13, as I had stitch and was tired and felt like I'd end up walking the last 4, so got my DH to
Pick me up. Still pleased with 13 miles though.

Imbroglio · 21/02/2016 19:43

Well after all that negativity I scored a PB!

Boobz · 24/02/2016 14:28

Well done Imbroglio - what was it?

4 mile run in the mountains here, as a tester, at 4:54/km. Am going to attempt 18 miles on Friday I think - gulp. It's pretty cold here, but beautiful!

Imbroglio · 24/02/2016 17:23

2.06. Not super speedy (like you!) but 3 minutes faster than my November half and I felt in very good shape at the end, and the following morning. Ran a strong 7.5 miles this morning.

Boobz · 25/02/2016 06:29

That is awesome (and I don't think of myself as super speedy...) - well done.

I have woken up to low cloud and snow. Not looking so enticing now.... hurrumph.

Boobz · 26/02/2016 16:12

18 miles in the Dolomites done, in 2:31. Exhausted after!

CMOTDibbler · 27/02/2016 08:34

Not surprised Boobz!

I have had a rubbish week, and felt exhausted all the time. Coventry half tomorrow, so all I can hope for is getting round tbh

Boobz · 27/02/2016 18:10

good luck Dibbler!

Anglaise1 · 28/02/2016 13:18

Did my 15k race this morning, 1h10m, 2nd in my category and 13th woman overall out of the 180 running so not too bad. Was comfortable throughout at ave of just under 13kph and for the marathon time I want I need 12k/h so fingers crossed I'll manage it.

CMOTDibbler · 28/02/2016 15:04

Well done Anglaise!

Disappointed to only manage 2h25 in the HM today, but tbh the way I've felt this week just keeping running was an acheivement. Nice medal though

Boobz · 01/03/2016 09:55

Well done Anglaise - you continue to set the bar! I did 9 miles this morning and it felt slooooow.

Got home from skiing yesterday so was able to upload my garmin data for my 18 mile run and look at my splits, and it's pretty bloody good! I guess I was so cold I was trying to get it done a bit quicker!

5 weeks and 5 days until my marathon now - am heading to the US later this afternoon for a 4 day conference, which means I will be running 14 miles around Central Park for a change which will be nice, and am going to a Barry's Bootcamp there too - trying to keep up the regime even whilst travelling. But then I am back in Rome solidly for 5 weeks which means I can really concentrate on getting the food/fitness right...

Well done for getting around Dibbler, especially with your failing health last week!

Boobz · 04/03/2016 03:43

13 miles done along the Hudson River this morning. Was biting cold but amazing run - one of my favourite ever I think.

Imbroglio · 06/03/2016 19:40

20 miles plus today. Strange to see it written down as it is a RIDICULOUSLY LONG WAY TO RUN.

Boobz · 07/03/2016 20:14

Well done Imbroglio! Is that the longest run you will do? You are doing Brighton mara on April 17th, is that right? I do Rome on the 10th so we seem to be just about following the same schedule as I am due to run 20 miles on Friday. It's supposed to be gorgeous weather here on that day - about 18 degrees with a breeze so am really looking forward to it!

Imbroglio · 07/03/2016 20:25

Yes- Brighton! I'm planing to do do two more long runs on the same route, but a bit of walk/run because the route is nearer 22.5 miles with lots of hills, and I've got another half booked to mark the start of the taper.

Off to swim now!

Boobz · 08/03/2016 15:38

Sounds like you are well prepared! My running is going to pot this week as I firstly lost my trainers in NYC and then secondly had a big discussion about finances this morning with DH when I was supposed to be running, so not really going to plan. Will attempt to get out for 9 miles Weds, 6 on Thurs, Rest on Fri, cross train on Sat and then 20 miles on Sunday!

Anglaise1 · 09/03/2016 20:14

Wow Boobz to run in Central Park is a dream for me. To do the NY marathon would be the ultimate marathon for me!
Imbroglio to knock 3 mins off a HM time is impressive. I've never managed more than a minute.
Am tapering this week, no speedwork, we fly to Barcelona on Friday, marathon Sunday, weather forecast a lot better than here in N France, we've had rain and wind consistently today.
I hate tapering and I hate carb-loading, the scales go up and up and up...especially with all the water I'm drinking. I have my supply of jelly babies and I'm ready!
Am looking forward to crashing on the beach after the race (sunny and 18°C). Good luck to the rest of you with your training!
