Have anyone else just started marathon training and wants to support each other?

Boobz I'm 50 so in the Veteran 2 category 49 - 59 years. Its easier to get podiums as there are fewer women who run in that category than in the younger categories. There were only 45 women in my category on Sunday's race. But last year I won two races and had other scratch trail race podiums too, so it I don't just get podiums because of my old age!

Boobz · 02/02/2016 10:32

OMG well done Anglaise - I thought you were 30s like me with the pace you are running! Gives me hope I can still get a bit quicker!

Anglaise1 · 02/02/2016 12:32

You get more endurant with age too, even if you don't get much faster. I don't expect my pace to increase now as over 50 it only decreases but as I only started running 3 years ago I can't complain. Most of the women my age who are faster have been running since they were young, it helps a lot. My aim was to run a marathon before I was 50 which I did, just need to run a 100km before I'm 52 now Shock

Boobz · 04/02/2016 09:44

15 miles done. I got lost but managed to keep my pace to 5:23/km, which would be a 3:47 marathon.

My bum aches.

yetanotherdeskmove · 06/02/2016 17:14

Well I did my longest ever run last weekend at 14 miles and today I did 10 fast miles (for me!) at most 9m miles with a 2 mile cool down.

Looks like lots of you have been doing some good running Smile

I did my long run yesterday (3hrs) 20 miles and another 10 miles today. My bum has been hurting for 6 months, I have tendinitis in both buttocks and sitting down is extremely painful, especially on hard surfaces. But it doesn't hurt too much when I'm actually running and that's the important thing.

yetanotherdeskmove · 06/02/2016 17:58

Just never sit down Grin

Morning all, I hope no one minds the intrusion but I was pointed over here from the running thread. I'm training for Rome marathon, I can't believe how quickly it's coming round! I'm aiming for 3 runs a week - longest one so far was 15 miles, and core strengthening Pilates and kettle bells. I've been using parkrun as a speed session and also doing some track work. I'm halfway between wanting a sub 5hr and not wanting the pressure of trying for a time! I'll be happy to finish I think! Sounds like you are all working hard, anyone long running today?

Boobz · 07/02/2016 10:54

I will see you there Karate - am also doing the Rome marathon - and I also did 15 miles on Thursday - my longest one ever too!

Imbroglio · 07/02/2016 16:55

Really, really didn't feel like doing my long run today - bad nights sleep, stiff shoulder, generally feeling scuzzy.

Then went and knocked 19 minutes off the same 15 mile route from last week!

karatekimmi · 07/02/2016 19:59

I might have a few questions boobz (it reads like you live in Rome?) Boring house keeping stuff mainly!

I've lost a week somewhere!! 9 weeks til the marathon, only 6 until my 20 miler!!Shock

Anglaise1 · 08/02/2016 07:21

I thought the organisation of the Rome marathon was fantastic. The only real problem was slippery cobblestones (it rained last year), other than that there was only one proper hill and the last 5kms you run around some stunning parts of the city. There was something else, if you are unlucky enough to be in one of the last departure SAS you also leave with the walkers. I was in one of first SAS so it wasn't an issue for me but other runners got quite held up at the start by the nordic walkers

karatekimmi · 09/02/2016 12:58

Thanks Anglaise that's useful to know - I am in a 5 - 5.15 corral and was contemplating moving back (I don't want to start to fast) I'm glad it's fairly flat!! I did pick Rome as it has a long cut off time and "fit walkers" (I guess something is lost in translation) and with baby being just 6 months I didn't know what sort of shape I would be in!!

Anglaise1 · 09/02/2016 18:58

Kimmi the Rome organisers were really strict, once you were in a corral you couldn't change. If you'd never run a marathon before you were in the last corral automatically, that was my case. Fortunately the friend I ran with had a previous marathon time of 3H20 so I managed to get in one of the first corrals with her, but it was last minute and the officials weren't happy!

Boobz · 10/02/2016 15:05

How do I know which corral I'm in? Do they tell you before via email when you sign up? I had said I hadn't done a marathon before... should I have fibbed so as not to penned up at the back?

Boobz · 10/02/2016 15:07

Karate how do you know which corral you are in already?

Anglaise1 · 10/02/2016 18:32

www.maratonadiroma.it/?p=rules
Article 14 bib numbers, you will be in start area D which is with the 4.55+ marathon plus fit walkers (as I was supposed to be). You have a chip, so your real time will be recorded, but the start is a bit messy. I wasn't allowed to change my corral, we just did it at the last moment and nearly got caught.

Boobz · 10/02/2016 21:00

How did you do it - you just sidled up to a different starting point and kind of draped your hands over your number so no one could say OI YOU...? I don't really like the idea of being right at the back, as I think I am more likely to finish in 3:55 rather than 4:55.... do you think I could email them or is it too late?

Anglaise1 · 10/02/2016 21:18

I emailed them but they said it was''tu possible to change. My friend had a bib for the corral B (they are all colour coded too) so was able to get in her corral and pulled me with her. Once we got past the marshalls it was fine and we raced together. I shouldn't have said anything don't worry about it just try and get in the front of your corral.

Boobz · 11/02/2016 17:01

Ok cool - will take your advice.

Did 16 miles today in 2:19. Pooped.

CMOTDibbler · 12/02/2016 17:52

I'm so slow compared to the rest of you Sad . On the upside, after a patch of feeling ill and missing my long run last week, I did 24km this afternoon. This was to free up Sunday for a nice 30 mile cycle, and hopefully I'll get a good swim in tomorrow. Have signed up for a 1500m open water swim in May so I have to make a good showing in that too!

Imbroglio · 13/02/2016 07:46

I'm a slow runner and I can't seem to increase my speed. I think I'm too old now to worry about it too much!

MrsHarveySpecter · 13/02/2016 08:45

I'm slow too. I was aiming for sub 4.30 but now thinking under 5 hours would be okay. I can't wait for the marathon to be over to work on speed. Even my 5kms at parkrun are slow. I am not a happy runner at the moment and have the 'shit, I'm going to be the last runner to cross the line feeling' about London and about the half I have in two weeks Sad

CMOTDibbler · 13/02/2016 09:07

You know what though, even if you are last, you are still beating all of those people on the sofa. I did a duathlon in September (I've said never again), and came third from last. But I got a massive clap in from all the marshals, and wasn't made to feel like they were waiting around for me at all.
