New thread (a couple of days late for anyone doing, or thinking about doing, the 30 Day Shred or any of the other Jillian Michaels workouts. Any questions, just ask - we're here to give encouragement, advice and sympathy to each other.

A couple of FAQs to start with:

  1. How many days at each level? - the norm is about 10, but it's not a hard and fast rule so progress at the rate you feel good with. You don't have to get everything perfect before moving on.

  2. Can I take a day off? - yes, you should have at least one rest day every week. (I always shred on weekdays and have the weekend off)

  3. Weights? - If you don't have any dumbells, you can start with a couple of tins of beans or 500ml bottles of water. Different people can manage different weights, and many of us find that we want a couple of different sizes. You want weights that allow you to complete all (or most) of a set with good form. Places like Argos, TKMax or Sports Direct usually have sets of 3 sizes (eg 1, 2, 3 kg) reasonably cheaply.

    That's enough for now!

Elphaba , I only mentioned 5.45 am to explain why I couldn't possibly exercise before work! Getting up early is so not my strong point.

Well, despite having all day off, I chose to nap when DS did, so I still have to Shred tonight. Oh, and I was planning to ignore chores until the weekend or do them on rest days. Blush

MrsS - I have a couple of 10 minute solution DVDs (there's loads of different ones). They're bound to be on YouTube though.

I'm starting ri30 tomorrow. Not sure if I should be terrified or excited?
I often work out with 17 month old DS running round the living room or trying to join in. He's getting quite good at arm crosses during the warm up Wink

If I didn't get at least one laundry in every day, we would surely suffocate under a pile of dirty clothes if I left it until the weekend plus I'm a mug who uses cloth nappies

Plus pack lunch for the next day, plus do as much prep as I can for the following night's dinner...

Right, L2D4 done! I'm drawing a veil over last night's lack of effort. I better go shower before DS wakes up.

Ri30 W1D1 complete!
Wasn't too bad, loved the fast feet move. Sweating quite a bit by the end.

I've been doing a mix of her back catalogue. Tried hard body level 2 and have really hurt my lower back Confused. Either that or it was 6W6P. Will go back to BFBM and NMTZ when back starts behaving again.

Magpie - glad you liked it - fast feet is one of my least favourite moves, just feels a bit daft when I do it.

I did Yoga Inferno last night. It was fun, but I have a twinge in my back now.

I like fast feet too, Magpie. Although, I am deeply unlike an American football player!

I'm planning to do a level of six week six pack in the morning. The last time I did it, my sides were hurting for days.

Still doing BFBM and NMTZ. Liking the difference the longer work outs seem to be having and noticing even more toning!
Still haven't ventured into Ri30 or Yoga inferno due to my sister's negative feedback on them!
What is 6W6P like compared to NMTZ and BFBM?

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2015 20:45

I tried 6W6P but didn't like it at all - IIRC some of the moves were difficult to get the hang of and the pace was quite fast so there wasn't time to sort it out. Ri30 is very much like shred only gets a bit harder - I like (most of) it.

Ri30 is definitely more like what you are used to, blodynmawr. She makes you do two long identical circuits in 6w6p and you feel like offing yourself when it gets to the start of the second lot.

It works though, I must admit!

Well done magpie!
I did tabatas this morning - used 'moguls' as one of the intervals today. I prefer doing JM's cardio moves really hard for 20 secs then having the 10 sec break to doing 4x30 secs (or more, she goes way over sometimes) continuously.

Grin at drs....you'll be ahead of me next week, I'm doing tomorrow and Saturday and then I don't know next day week I'll be able to get to do it, have building work starting on Monday....don't fancy turning up in my shredding gear in front of the builders Blush....so we're heading off for a few days with the kids to escape the carnage....you'll be well done at that point I'd say dr...

Except that I start back at work on Monday! Only doing two days next week though.

Day1 Level 3.....just about did it....so much jumping and all those plank moves with weights Hmm what fresh hell is this....rock star jumps, I can hardly get my feet of the floor....I shall be following Anita for a while with this one....is it normal to not like each level at the start??! I miss level 2!

I did like the running plank though, and the sit ups...so that's something! I'll do it again tomorrow, see if I'm any better at it.

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2015 16:58

It can take a while to get into each level - I actually like the plank rows now. But I'll never jump like a rock star (though I can get my feet a little way off the ground now). Well done!

NMTZ done this morning. Not sure what I shall do over Easter - don't want to disturb DD so I might just do tabatas and weights/bodyweight stuff.

Thanks Errol, yeah it'll probably take a few times doing it to get used to the moves..my plank hold is weak, so it will be good to work on it......the day started off crap for me and it just annoyed me, wanted a good workout to get out some frustration! I'm out running tonight so that should help...hopefully! Your great for keeping at the exercise Errol, all I can think of is all that chocolate I'm going to eat at Easter Grin....is your dd sitting exams??

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2015 17:27

MrsS - yes, she's got GCSEs coming up, and is being pretty sensible about getting sleep and doing revision but does sort of expect DH and I to revolve around her needs at the moment! Which of course we dutifully do as much as possible. HmmGrin

Great she's taking her exams serious, good luck to her Wink you'll be happy when she has it over with I'm sure. My Niece is sitting hers as well, not so good about sleep and even worse about revision!! from what I can tell from my sisters rants!
