New thread (a couple of days late for anyone doing, or thinking about doing, the 30 Day Shred or any of the other Jillian Michaels workouts. Any questions, just ask - we're here to give encouragement, advice and sympathy to each other.

A couple of FAQs to start with:

  1. How many days at each level? - the norm is about 10, but it's not a hard and fast rule so progress at the rate you feel good with. You don't have to get everything perfect before moving on.

  2. Can I take a day off? - yes, you should have at least one rest day every week. (I always shred on weekdays and have the weekend off)

  3. Weights? - If you don't have any dumbells, you can start with a couple of tins of beans or 500ml bottles of water. Different people can manage different weights, and many of us find that we want a couple of different sizes. You want weights that allow you to complete all (or most) of a set with good form. Places like Argos, TKMax or Sports Direct usually have sets of 3 sizes (eg 1, 2, 3 kg) reasonably cheaply.

    That's enough for now!

New thread here, sorry for the lame title. I'm not good at these things!

Welcome Ethel. Yes, I've done the full shred several times now. You are supposed to take at least one rest day per week - I usually do weekdays and not weekends (though I'm all askew in the school hols at the moment).

I think quite a few people do find that this helps them get (back) into running e.g. some combine with starting c2k. While doing just shred works well to get you fitter and stronger and back into the exercise habit, quite a few of us who've been doing it (and/or other JM stuff) mix and match a bit. Have fun!

Come on folks... I started this thread, someone else needs to start one for April.

Hello all

I'm going to be starting the Shred tomorrow. Oh hell, I might even tonight.

Has everybody here done the full 30 days? I'm interested in your results and tips, and to know if you took days off or added extra exercise in etc.

I've been skiving exercise for almost a year after picking up a running injury and letting that de-motivate me completely and I need a short workout to get me back into daily exercise. I've put on 15lbs in my year off running! Shock

I'm a little sore in the shoulders, thank you for asking Raspberry. And elsewhere. But no worries. The skips with the kick outs are great, they are so easy in comparison with everything else! Sounds very difficult at work for you, I will cross my fingers for you that it gets better.

I did it! DH entertaining DCs by letting them watch Shaun anna Sheep or chew computer cables depending on age, dinner is in oven, managed to get L2 D10 done upstairs watching on computer. Except for the very very irritating ads one of which wouldn't be skipped. Normally I use my phone and Chromecast it to the telly.

I must, must, must do something today. At work again tomorrow though there is a move to all leave work early and go for a country walk which I will join in with if the weather is bearable (I would have DD in a backpack and she'd be miserable if it was tipping it down).
Other than that I'm banking on Thurs and Fri naps. We are currently driving home from a day out and both DCs are sleeping so there won't be any naps at home.

Did some weights/planks again today, as per holiday plan. Someone remember to start a new thread tomorrow please! Smile

How did you feel after level two, Panda? Enjoying those skips with kick outs? There's a funny one in level three where she makes you do a still lunge thing and then pump your arms like you were running on the spot.

Work is not very fun at the moment. The person who is being mean to me is one of the management, so it is making life difficult. I'm ignoring them ssuccessfully at the moment, but sense more problems might occur. Thank you for checking. I appreciate it!

Hello all
I am back. The dining room is painted and I have kicked myself in the backside and have today done Ri30 L2 D2...which is where I left off so many days (weeks) ago.

How are you doing with your work problem Raspberry? I flicked back a few pages to see what has been happening, and was sorry to read about it.

I did Ri30 day one week three on Saturday. I was feeling very tired after a bad night's sleep and didn't enjoy it much. I'm going to have another go tomorrow after work. I hope it will be better.

Thanks magpie well done to you too, sounds like your flying through Ri30. I didn't so any shredding today, ran this morning instead, so it was nice to get a rest from it for a day, will give it a go again tomorrow. Although I do see a nice change in my legs...could that be the lunges & squats working??

You'll be starting level 3 soon drs Grin....

Well done for making it to level 3 MrsS, it will get easier (though I make no promises about the rock stars...)

Ri30 W1D3 complete for me! I haven't ached like this since I started the shred. It's mostly in my legs, it's a good ache though, gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Great she's taking her exams serious, good luck to her Wink you'll be happy when she has it over with I'm sure. My Niece is sitting hers as well, not so good about sleep and even worse about revision!! from what I can tell from my sisters rants!

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2015 17:27

MrsS - yes, she's got GCSEs coming up, and is being pretty sensible about getting sleep and doing revision but does sort of expect DH and I to revolve around her needs at the moment! Which of course we dutifully do as much as possible. HmmGrin

Thanks Errol, yeah it'll probably take a few times doing it to get used to the moves..my plank hold is weak, so it will be good to work on it......the day started off crap for me and it just annoyed me, wanted a good workout to get out some frustration! I'm out running tonight so that should help...hopefully! Your great for keeping at the exercise Errol, all I can think of is all that chocolate I'm going to eat at Easter Grin....is your dd sitting exams??

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2015 16:58

It can take a while to get into each level - I actually like the plank rows now. But I'll never jump like a rock star (though I can get my feet a little way off the ground now). Well done!

NMTZ done this morning. Not sure what I shall do over Easter - don't want to disturb DD so I might just do tabatas and weights/bodyweight stuff.

Day1 Level 3.....just about did it....so much jumping and all those plank moves with weights Hmm what fresh hell is this....rock star jumps, I can hardly get my feet of the floor....I shall be following Anita for a while with this one....is it normal to not like each level at the start??! I miss level 2!

I did like the running plank though, and the sit ups...so that's something! I'll do it again tomorrow, see if I'm any better at it.

Grin at drs....you'll be ahead of me next week, I'm doing tomorrow and Saturday and then I don't know next day week I'll be able to get to do it, have building work starting on Monday....don't fancy turning up in my shredding gear in front of the builders Blush....so we're heading off for a few days with the kids to escape the carnage....you'll be well done at that point I'd say dr...
