New thread (a couple of days late for anyone doing, or thinking about doing, the 30 Day Shred or any of the other Jillian Michaels workouts. Any questions, just ask - we're here to give encouragement, advice and sympathy to each other.

A couple of FAQs to start with:

  1. How many days at each level? - the norm is about 10, but it's not a hard and fast rule so progress at the rate you feel good with. You don't have to get everything perfect before moving on.

  2. Can I take a day off? - yes, you should have at least one rest day every week. (I always shred on weekdays and have the weekend off)

  3. Weights? - If you don't have any dumbells, you can start with a couple of tins of beans or 500ml bottles of water. Different people can manage different weights, and many of us find that we want a couple of different sizes. You want weights that allow you to complete all (or most) of a set with good form. Places like Argos, TKMax or Sports Direct usually have sets of 3 sizes (eg 1, 2, 3 kg) reasonably cheaply.

    That's enough for now!

Well done! Shredding at the weekend seems very dedicated to me. DH and I left DD revising both yesterday and today and took the dog out for some decent walks.

30DS L3 D10 complete! I did it!!!
Thank you so much to all you lovely people for the advice and support. I genuinely couldn't have done it without you. I've never got to the end of an exercise thing before so I'm feeling very pleased Grin

Congratulations, Magpie!!

What improvements have you seen? How do you feel differently?

Report
MagpieCursedTea · 16/03/2015 17:52

Thanks!
I certainly feel a lot fitter and stronger. I'm also more flexible, I could only reach halfway down my shin during the cooldown at the start and can now reach my toes.
There have also been improvements to my mental health. I just generally feel a lot better in myself.

That's great, Magpie! Smile So... what are you going to do next?

Another day of NMTZ for me today. Tomorrow is DH's birthday so I may be having a day off.

What's NMTZ like?

Well done Magpie - what a great achievement.

Had a very lazy weekend of meals out and pizza. Blush .

Back on the wagon today with a FD and took the plunge to start the next level. So L2 D1 completed. Push ups were definitely easier mainly because there were fewer of them but by the time i got to the last set of exercises i had to take very very short breaks on the strength exercises and put the weights down from 2kg to 1kg as I simply couldn't hold my arms up - just as well the pushups were easier!

Definitely worked up more of a sweat this level, also found out I need more floor space. Utterly exhausted now and looking forward to dinner.

I'm pleased to hear about your success Magpie, particularly with your mental health. I started mine because I was struggling with depression and have found it really helpful too. I sleep so much better now.

I have not been doing Ri30. I've been doing odd things from YouTube. I did Yoga Inferno on Friday and 6w6p today. Yoga Inferno was flipping hard and I was sweating like a balloon next to a pin cushion. 6w6p was bearable and reasonably fun. I enjoyed that it only had a small amount of cardio and that I got to lie down lots.

Grin Not heard that balloon one before. I must admit one of the things I like about NMTZ is that the last couple of sets are on the floor!

D3L2 today for me.....completely fell off the wagon at the weekend, food & exercise, was extremely bold! But back to it today! I did do a nice 5k run last night, which made me feel a bit better! Are you shredding today granny? IT will probably kill me as I haven't done it since Friday..but have to get back into it...

magpie well done on finishing it all, and doing it with a hangover Grin the dc gave me as present for Mother's Day, burn fat boost metabolism & one about target zones?? So no excuses for me now!

What thoughtful DC! Grin You should be ok after a few days off - I'm fine going back to shred after a week or so off on holiday. You don't lose fitness that quickly, so no excuses if you fall off the wagon, you can get right back on again!

Hope you don't mind me joining? I started at the end of Feb but then had two ear infections, the flu and a chest infection. I think (hope) I'm out of the cycle of various infections now so plan to start tomorrow.

I did the shred back in September and did 2 levels a day, 5 times a week before a holiday. Think I'll start with doing just the one level and see how I go!

Day 3 done, although I did think I was going to die by the time I got to plank jacks, im so glad I did it, feels good afterwards Wink

I know Errol very thoughtful dc, although they said it was a choice between a box of chocs or the DVDs, apparently Dh advised on the DVDs Grin

Hi kirinm wow 2levels a day, now that's hardcore Smile

Welcome Kirinm - I think you'd be best to do one level a day, you don't want to overdo it after being ill.

L2 D4, I'm trying to do about half regular plank jacks and er, squat jumps? and half easy ones and building up, but canNOT do double skipping.
I did my one Pilates and three Shred last week but no fifth exercise day and unless I skip out for a walk on the Brownie weekend at PGL, this week will be the same I fear.

I had a holiday to prepare for. I then moved on to ripped in 30 which I found reeeeally hard.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/03/2015 20:14

drspous - yes, doing as many as you can 'natalie' and then the rest 'anita' is a good way to build up. I couldn't do squat thrusts properly at all when I started but now I can do a whole set (though I have a breather before and after).

L2D4 done....my coordination was all over the place today, found the one where you lift the weights and raise your leg so hard to do, kept loosing the balance...still not sure if I like it, but it does make me sweat! Which is a good thing Grin and like that drs I can't do double jump rope either...sticking with the plain old single one!

After having yesterday off because of DH's birthday, today was the dog's birthday so we took him for a walk. This took out my exercise time, but I did my inclined pushups (gradually increasing number) and also some sets of deadlifts, bent-over rows and -er, think they're military presses - with larger weights (5reps x 5 sets).

I did L1D1 of Yoga Meltdown today. It was very complicated and much harder than I was expecting. I'm missing the shred!

Back on the wagon doing NMTZ and BFBM on alternate days his week. Smile
Only recently discovered BFBM following a recommendation up thread and really enjoying the kick box moves.
Magpie would really recommend these two as follow ones to the Shred.
Granny the work 10- week challenge is not that bad-you set your own target at the start of the 10 weeks for minutes of daily exercise to complete then log what you achieve at the end of each week. You get bonus points if you also set and achieve weight loss goals. You register as a team with colleagues locally, and as we are a global company of 60,000+, there are plenty of competing teams! So far I'm doing well and have moved up from previous 30 min/day target (when Shredding) to 45min/ day as NMTZ and BFBM are longer work outs.

Hi all

Just checking in, I've been missing hearing everyone's news. I'm over the lurgy and I've been to visit my parents for a couple of days (eaten loads, drunk loads, done no exercise except removing a large area of turf from their garden (they wanted me to...I hasten to add). Now I'm home again and decorating the dining room when DD is asleep (I finished the ceiling 20 mins ago!). So, no Jillian this week (I feel guilty, sorry Raspberry I am a rubbish buddy). At least painting is toning for the arms though Hmm
