Anyone fancy starting couch to 5k on 26/8?

I've done virtually no exercise since I left school, I'm now 27 Blush. I weigh over 14 stone and I'm horribly unfit. I have family history of heart disease and high blood pressure, and I've finally realised I drastically need to do something to improve my health and fitness. DH is running his second London marathon next year, and tbh I find it embarrassing that A) I weigh more than him and B) he can run 26 miles, I'd struggle to run 26metres without being breathless.

I'm running in the evenings after DCs have gone to bed, I'll do Monday, Weds/Thurs then again on Saturday. Anyone fancy joining me?

Totally fell off the wagon after weekend away Sad Help me get back on please!!!

HalleLouja · 10/09/2013 18:13

Kicks Funny back onto the wagon. Keep going it is worth it.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/09/2013 18:30

Get back on fun

I've just eaten, so will get our ds's to bed (ds1 is looking much more like his usual self now thank goodness) and give it another hour or so then see if I can run for 3 minutes too!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 10/09/2013 21:04

I can run for 3 minutes too Grin.

I was disappointed with the music at the start of the week 3 podcast but it did improve!

I'll be out next on Thursday.

DearPrudence · 10/09/2013 21:39

Now come on, FunnyRunner - according to my spreadsheet you've already started week 2, which is fantastic. Don't let one weekend spoil it for you. And frankly, for the rest of us - numbers have dwindled enough. We need you!

Unfortunately I worked quite late and then DS was desperate to go swimming, so I've not done my run tonight. But I did swim about 30 lengths. Will have to wait until tomorrow to find out if I can join the 3 minute club.

gintastic · 11/09/2013 14:59

I'm off for W3R2 tonight - how's everyone else doing?

The cooler weather is definitely making it easier :-)

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 11/09/2013 18:25

Bracing myself for wk3r1 tonight - going about 7 so if I don't make it back its been nice knowing you Grin

WestmorlandSausage · 11/09/2013 19:54

still stuck on W2 here i'm doing R2 tomorrow and R3 on Saturday - I'm a little behind schedule due to circumstances outside of my control but definitely still on the wagon. My running days are going to be Monday's Thursdays and Saturdays from now on so I may just slip a little behind if you are all sticking to one day on one day off.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 11/09/2013 20:36

Dancing bear I CAN run shuffle for 3 minutes... Twice! Knees a bit sore but so glad I did it- hoorah. Hang in their everyone - if I can do it anyone can!!!

DearPrudence · 11/09/2013 21:16

W3 R2 completed! I really quite like running in the drizzle. The first 3 minute run felt like it went on for ever, but I did it all.

Sausage I'm trying to go every other day but life does have a tendency to get in the way. Lots of people say it doesn't matter if it takes a bit longer - they key thing is to keep going.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/09/2013 21:21

Well done gin tea prudence and sausage

We'll all get there - this thread is certainly giving me the extra push that I need.

I'm aiming to get out 3 times a week, not quite every other day but that's what I can hopefully keep up.

I'll be out again tomorrow evening for w3, r2.

gintastic · 11/09/2013 21:41

Done it! And I have discovered I like running in the rain :-) 3min definitely easier second time.

Could do with either contact lenses or windscreen wipers though...

HalleLouja · 12/09/2013 19:38

I did week 6 day 1 yesterday and it went well. I run again tomorrow and doing a class tonight.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/09/2013 21:17

I managed w3 r2 this evening in the drizzle and wearing my shiny new running shoes Grin

It felt harder than w3 r1 to me. Last weeks r2 was the hardest for me too - who knows why.

Anyway. I did it, and will need to get out sometime over the weekend next.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 14/09/2013 12:52

Week 3 run 3 just done.

Blimey it felt hard - I though it was meant to get easier Confused

How's everyone else getting on?

DearPrudence · 14/09/2013 23:16

Week 3 run 2 completed this morning. Was supposed to go last night but it was raining, and it was Friday, and we had the fire lit.

I found it hard, to be honest. Do-able, but hard. And next week seems to be a lot more running. But I'm sticking with it! Will need to do run 3 tomorrow, so no rest day.

Keep going everyone.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 16/09/2013 10:43

Grrr. I've come down with a horrible cold. Was thinking of heading out for w4 r1 today - my only day off work but that's had to go on hold.

I really need to be up to it tomorrow, otherwise I won't get out until Friday Confused

DearPrudence · 16/09/2013 17:47

Oh no, Wish! You've been going so well. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm running a bit behind on the programme - aiming for 1 day between runs but it's becoming at least 2. Must get out tonight.

gintastic · 16/09/2013 20:15

W3R3 done. Hard work again... Get better soon, iwish!

WestmorlandSausage · 16/09/2013 21:22

I've sticking on W2 for a little longer as the three minute run at the end of the W3 run still feels like its going to be impossible, I did W2 R4 this evening and pushed myself a little longer on the 90 second runs (probably to about 2 mins so I think by the middle of next week I'm going to be up for taking on week 3.

I've got a lot more time this week as my gym classes have been cancelled so I'm really hoping to push on a bit. I am actually really enjoying running I just want to be better at it so people wonder i'm all dressed up in running gear just to go for a 'brisk walk'

WestmorlandSausage · 16/09/2013 21:24

grr so many typing errors.

I'm not drinking wine on a Monday night after a run... no .... certainly not.

Grin
WestmorlandSausage · 16/09/2013 21:26

In order....

I'm not I've

THIS week not NEXT week

so people DON'T wonder

DearPrudence · 16/09/2013 21:31

W3R3 done! Pushed myself during the last 3 minute run to see how long I could go and managed 6 minutes. Weirdly, my feet hurt the most.

Well done gin and Sausage!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 17/09/2013 21:47

Well, my cold is a bit better today and the thought of not getting out until Friday inspired me to go out this evening.

It was blowing an absolute gale so I modified my route to make sure it wasn't blowing in my face. Then to top it off it started raining!

But I did it! W4, R1 done Grin. 16 minutes of running in one session Shock

It'll be Friday before I can go out again.

WestmorlandSausage · 19/09/2013 19:10

W3 R1 done.... woooooooooooooop!

I'm definitely getting fitter but not really any thinner
