Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Last night I did train
In the torrential rain
But the speed I will gain
Will be worth all the pain
Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/10/2013 08:27

Grin Melanie Grin

You have no idea how much you have brightened my morningSmile

holmessweetholmes · 03/10/2013 13:02

Grin I sit looking out at the rain,
Feeling sad that I've no time to train,
For although it shows some sign of stopping,
I've got to wait in for my shopping!

MelanieCheeks · 03/10/2013 13:13

The Music Magpie guy did call!
Took the package I'd left in the hall
So I'm off to the old shopping mall
I promise I wont spend it all.......

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/10/2013 13:46

I have been out for a run
It started off in the sun
But after about half an hour
I got caught in a shower

Today's well meaning advice from dog walkers anonymous: "Drink your water" Grin

And I an Angry because I left my jacket tied to a bench (because it was so hot and sunny to start with) and when I went back it had GONE! I retraced my steps for 20 minutes to check I hadn't mistaken the bench but some bugger has taken it (it was securely tied on, so couldn't have blown away). That'll learn me!

IsThatTrue · 03/10/2013 19:02

I can't do poetry!!

You lot are great though :)

ohone Angry about your jumper, how mean! I did see you mentioning our little thread on the exercise thread Grin

It was a very slow run this morning, I was with 2 friends and they found it quite hard, I was hardly out of breathe for any of it. I'll have to make sure I schedule plenty of runs alone too so I can go a bit faster.

I want a PB on sat!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/10/2013 19:49

We have become quite a big thread now IsThat!

It's hard running with people who have a different speed (which is why DH and I NEVER used to run together Grin).

I went back on my bike to check I hadn't mixed up where I left my jacket, and checked with the park rangers but no sign of it. It was only a cheap job from Sports Direct, and would have been a bit sweaty and yukky, so I can't imagine why anyone would have taken it. At least I had emptied the pockets when I washed it last night so they didn't get my parkrun barcode Grin.

Iggity · 04/10/2013 19:43

'Twas the night before parkrun,
And all through the UK,
Excitement was building for the next day
Will it be a PB?
Who knows, maybe.......

Blatherskite · 04/10/2013 20:19

All through the UK!? There are parkruns in Afghanistan (at Camp Bastion), Australia, Denmark, England, Northern Ireland, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, Wales, New Zealand, and USA you know! But I guess that doesn't rhyme as well Wink

Also, tomorrow is parkrun's 9th birthday. parkrunHQ have been asking if people can make 30 second videos of what parkrun means to them and tweet it with a #loveparkrun hashtag. I think our Event director is planning on being there in the morning to get a video of everyone.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 04/10/2013 21:30

Good luck for tomorrow everyone, I'm volunteering.

jchocchip · 04/10/2013 21:36

Grin at the poems :) Good luck tomorrow! I'm going to jog round as foot wasn't too bad after a little run on Wednesday evening :). Maybe the bursitis is on the run...

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/10/2013 22:17

Hope everyone has a good run/fun volunteering tomorrow and that injuries stay away Smile

Iggity · 04/10/2013 23:02

I'll stick to parkrunning rather than poetry :)

For the video, I might do a selfie of me running up the hill for the first 600m of our parkrun. That will definitely discourage people!

Good luck everyone and have a great run!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/10/2013 08:04

The sun is in
The sky is grey
There's lots of clouds
To spoil the day
But it's parkrun
Parkrun in my park

(^with apologies to Buddy Holly)

Iggity · 05/10/2013 10:52

Lovely day here in London. No more poetry from me.

Last recorded a PB on 9th March this year of 29:04. Finally have broken it with time of 28:56 so over the moon.

What inspired me? Saw my old personal trainer in gym last night and he was unimpressed by my half-marathon time. Told me it should have been 1.5 hrs. WTF? Anyway, he was right that I should have speeded up a bit more so pushed myself this morning and it worked. Am also going to join a local running club as I need a bit of a push as I take things too easy on my own. 1.5 hrs for half-marathon would not be realistic for me (equivalent to doing 4 parkruns back to back in just over 22 mins each!).

Hope everyone else enjoyed the run.

MelanieCheeks · 05/10/2013 11:00

1 1/2 hour for a half marathon?????? I agree, WTF? I did my first half this year in just under 2 1/2 hrs

The sun is shining here in Lisburn, I didnt have any booze last night, and I was at a training session this week. I think all of this has brought my time back under 30 mins (forgot to hit stop so MapMyRun thinks it took me 38 mins......)

Knackerelli · 05/10/2013 11:21

The times are in, 29:41. Pleased with that as was hard going, no doubt not helped by DS joining me in bed at 4am doing an eel impression and then at 5am wanted to tell knock knock jokes!!

Am shocked at some of the comments people have had. And stealing running tops???? Some people are beyond the pale. Well done to everyone who ran today!

jchocchip · 05/10/2013 11:21

Aargh forgot to do my video! (What with the excitement of being presented my 50 shirt and all)
Local running club doing all the volunteer roles and handing out cake at the end, yum!

Blatherskite · 05/10/2013 12:21

I did mine in 28:00. Knee was sore so it was a real struggle but that's number 45 done and I'm one closer to that t-shirt.

I did my first (only) half marathon in 2hrs 14 and was told that was good. 1.5hrs is a dream for a lot of runners I think!

holmessweetholmes · 05/10/2013 13:50

Still nowhere near pb but shaved 30 seconds off last week's time. I really need to squeeze a couple of weekday runs in...

IsThatTrue · 05/10/2013 17:12

Well done everyone!

I got a pb at my local course! 27.33 down from 29.20!! It's not a true pb as I have 27.15 at the other course I run but this one is a lot hillier. And I ran the hill! Grin

I'm a very happy lady. Ds2 had a great time with mil and was asleep in her arms when I got back so I even got to shower and dress in peace!

OP posts:
MelanieCheeks · 05/10/2013 17:49

29.06! More than 2 minutes off last week's miserable effort, and less than a minute off PB (in fact, 3rd best time this year)

Here's my 3 steps to running well:

  1. dont drink the night before
  2. go to trainign sessions, even if its raining
  3. Take a dog to help you up the hills.
EugenesAxe · 05/10/2013 19:58

Hello - I've started running (sort of) the Riddlesdown PR.... but I'm SO unfit and still incredibly slow (40min). My first the other week was 44min though so an improvement...

Anyway; it sounds mad but I'm doing this to try and get back in training as I signed up for Brighton half marathon in Feb. I used to run 10ks quite a lot in the past but not well; fastest I think was 1h 14m.

I wanted to ask someone to help me get realistic. When I ran 10k I used to say run to 3k and then have a fast walk if you need one. If I had a similar figure for a half marathon, what would be reasonable, to avoid finishing in a stupid time? I was thinking being able to run without stopping to 7km. I've always been a bit crap mentally TBH... although I do start up running again fairly quickly after a fast walk I never really get back into being able to run long stretches thereafter. I am dogged... I would keep at it until I got there, but practically speaking I think they start shutting up the course after a certain amount of time... I'd hate to not make it by then!

IsThatTrue · 05/10/2013 20:47

Welcome eugenes I'm no expert but you have 4 months. I reckon you'll be fine. You need to train around 3x a week, preferably doing some interval training.

Hi all, just seen this thread! Our local parkrun has been going 30 weeks and I have run 15 and volunteered 13. Have been RD three times but I prefer to run. Have done a few with one of my dogs. PB is 26m 48, failed to beat it since I recovered from an injury!
