Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

The one I went to charges for the analysis if you don't buy the shoes. Maybe I'll have to go to a bigger chain store instead and just check my gait.

Oh Melanie, that happens sometimes. There's always next week Smile

Good luck with your Oct-sober, I'm sure it will make a difference.

Thanks Blathers. I did once try some Asics as an alternative to my Sauconys but didn't like those Smile. I've ordered some more Truimphs - found them 20% off on the internet - as I need some new trainers for my marathon and thought I should stick with what I know, and try something new afterwards. I have also ordered 2 new shock absorbers, and some random bits and pieces from Sports Direct (no running gear, but swimming costume and some other stuff). I have more sports gear than normal clothes!

Blatherskite · 30/09/2013 09:55

I had Asics Cumulus last time OhOne but didn't really like them. I've since been told that they have a reputation for not lasting very long which explains how I managed to kill mine in about 6 months.

New Balance were the first running shoes I had (I've only been running long enough to get through 3 pairs!) and I'm really glad to be back in them. They don't make the 1062's I adored any more but the 1080's seem to be a good replacement.

Iggity · 30/09/2013 23:33

My sister has Asics gel cumulus and they lasted her less than 6 mths...her big toe is sticking through the top of one now and she used them mainly for walking.

I have the Asics gel equation which I picked up in john lewis and I don't think they are very good. I did the wet feet on a piece of paper to see what my footprint looked like and determined I was a neutral. My nearest running shop charges 15 for gait analysis if you don't buy the trainers there. Going to give it a few days then will get some new ones. Hopefully they will recommend a different brand.

I have double layered socks but they don't seem to help.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/10/2013 01:45

How are your blisters today Iggity? Hope you are feeling OK after your half.

IsThatTrue · 01/10/2013 07:11

Iggity do you Vaseline your feet too? I've always vaselined as well as worn twin skin socks.

I hope your blisters are feeling better.

Not sure what to do Saturday as DH is out so I have ds2. I'm not sure wether to run with him in the buggy or to ask mil to have him so I can run. Although that means doing the same course as last week when I wanted to do the other one. Missing a week is just not an option! Lol

I normally love Saucony shoes, but my latest ones I'm just not liking at all. They are too soft and cushioned for me. I'm wondering about trying to sell them actually - I've only worn them a few times. Anyone done this? Or anyone interested in a pair of size 6 Saucony Omni 11's Grin?

MelanieCheeks · 01/10/2013 08:06

I noticed a new "running club" listed on our ParkRun results, and when I explored further I found a group that's doing the C25K, and they have a really supportive Facebook page. I'm going to join them - 2 nights structured training a week is bound to improve my times, right?

IsThatTrue · 01/10/2013 08:22

melanie I'm sure any training will help your time. Enjoy it, that's all that really matters.

I'm heading out for 5k with the buggy and a friend today, quick turn around as I've gotta be at a house we're looking at buying for 10am for a valuation. Eeek

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/10/2013 08:35

Enjoy your quick run IsThat. I'm heading out for four miles after breakfast. It's looking a bit dreary here and I've still got a cold but it is feeling better than Sunday, and after a day off yesterday I am raring to go or will be when I have had some coffee Grin.

Melanie - I redid C25K about a year after I first completed it, and ran/jogged the walking bits and sprinted ran the running bits a bit faster IYSWIM. I'm sure your time will improve.

holmes - I see lots of shoes for sale on ebay. Unfortunately I'm a 6.5 Smile.

Blatherskite · 01/10/2013 09:27

The best bit about buying shoes from a big shop like Sweatshop or Up and Running is that they offer a 30 day money back guarantee so if you run in the shoes and hate them, you can take them back and swap them for new ones. It doesn't matter if you've run in them and they're muddy - if it's within 30 days, you can swap them.

IsThatTrue · 01/10/2013 11:20

Oh blathers that's good to know!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/10/2013 11:57

Why is it that men of a certain age, usually IME dog-walkers, seem to think they have a right to make comments Angry? Or AIBU not to roll about laughing at their little jokes Confused?

Today, some middle aged* man told me that I ought to be running, when I was in a walking break between one-mile intervals. Last week, towards the end of a ten-miler someone else told me to run faster. Another one told me "knees up". All pale into significance compared to the one on holiday who told me "the fun run was last week, haven't you finished yet?"

*20 years older than me Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/10/2013 11:58

^sorry, but it makes me really cross!

Women I've come across running say things like "well done" or "keep going", as do other runners of both genders.

Blatherskite · 01/10/2013 13:08

That would make me cross too. I'd have been soooo tempted to reply to the man today with "so should you tubby" :)

There are usually at least 2 running clubs and 1 or 2 boot camp type clubs using the lake I run round tonight so you're far more likely to get encouraging calls than abuse but I have had some in the past. I always tell myself that they'd probably collapse within the first 200 feet trying to do what I'm doing and are just jealous.

IsThatTrue · 01/10/2013 13:57

ohone I hate people like that. I had a man say 'run fat bitch run' to me a few months ago. Ok I'll give him I was size 14 and didn't look great in Lycra but hell he was at least twice the size of me. Unfortunately I was too Shock to reply.

Good buggy run this morning, 10.25/mile which isn't bad with the buggy.

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/10/2013 19:50

Shock IsThat, that's awful. Horrid man.

IsThatTrue · 01/10/2013 22:24

DH was more angry than I was. I was just Shock really. Thankfully having gone from a squeezed into size 16, to fairly roomy 14 I was no longer feeling like a fat botch so it didn't hurt too much.

I have sorted childcare for parkrun this week! And it means mil gets to see DS, and me, ds and DH can have a family day without having to take DS for a visit with mil on Sunday :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/10/2013 15:42

Yay IsThat, sounds like a result all round for the weekend Grin.

I was telling ranting to DH about the comments (including the one made to IsThat) this morning and he was outraged, and said they were all obviously inadequates who were jealous of our fitness Grin.

Faith restored while running today - a lovely bouncy male runner with legs twice as long as mine gave me a thumbs up, cheery wave and big grin every time we passed each other (going opposite directions around the park, he was twice as fast as me). I had a few "good mornings" from friendly dog walkers too.

I did my usual parkrun in 30.08, then carried on for another 4 miles. My 10K time was 01:01:43, 20 seconds off my PB (which is also where my nickname comes from Smile).

Blatherskite · 02/10/2013 16:02

I was thinking of you while I was out for my lunchtime run today too. We bumped into loads of people but they all seemed to be fellow runners so no nasty comments. I met a friend at her workplace and they have their own running club so everyone was out doing their lunchtime run round the local lake.

I do love where I live sometimes.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/10/2013 17:27

Oh Blathers, a lunchtime run you lucky thing!

And a workplace running club - how lovely!

Blatherskite · 02/10/2013 17:31

DD was at pre school and friend was on a sensible shift so it seemed silly not to :)

She has a workplace gym too. There is no way I'd ever get a job there as I'm just not clever enough otherwise it would almost be worth becoming employed again Wink

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/10/2013 17:41

I am sure you are VERY clever Blathers.

Blatherskite · 02/10/2013 18:17

Maybe but not clever enough for this one.

IsThatTrue · 02/10/2013 18:40

Oh blathers that sounds like an idyllic running atmosphere!

I've got a quick 5k planned for tomorrow with the buggy and some friends before toddler group. Am hoping we can get away from the school quick enough so I don't have to drive to toddlers (although some days the alternative to that is skip the shower and nobody would want that!)
