Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Found I mistyped, I'm only in week 5 Blush

FoundAChopinLizt · 18/05/2013 11:47

Wibbly Smile

Still, impressed with the squats...

wibblyjelly · 18/05/2013 11:48

Thanks. I did them before my run. I think I would have cried if I still had them to do when I got back Smile

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 18/05/2013 18:00

Ok lesson learned! Don't run through hip pain. I think based on my googling that I strained my hip flexor and now have to take a week off to let it recover. I'm worried I'll lose all the fitness I've built up. Has anyone had a break and kept going?

viewwitharoom · 19/05/2013 07:11

Hi theyoni I had a week off due to flu at around w5 and found I could pick up where I left after that week. I had planned to repeat the last run but when I went out I just selected the next run on the list and plodded on! I just did w8r2 this morning and it was tough in places but managed to keep going....
Am enjoying reading about the apps etc everyone is using as I am needing a plan for beyond week 9, but I have an older iPhone which can run them so that will have to wait til upgrade time in a few months.

FuckThisShit · 19/05/2013 22:27

Hello all. The lovely wibbly has just posted a link to this thread, so I'm checking in.

I've signed up, JustGiving page and all, to do a 5K run in October with BIWI and Pistey and a few others, rains money for Woolly Hugs' chosen charity.

I literally haven't run more than about 100m since I left school a few 25 years ago...!

I will be don my runs 3 mornings each week and I've downloaded the GetRunning app this evening. My first will be on Tuesday morning.

jellybrain · 19/05/2013 22:29

R1 w6 done. Reading on my phone so I am posting to see if I can get to the bottom quickerGrin

HunterWellies · 19/05/2013 22:35

Hey FTS and welcome! I've been known to craft a bit and saw you lot have now taken to running too... Amazing :) if I get any good at this running lark I might join you.

Well, I gave myself this weekend off as I had a bug on Friday and the past two days have been flat out eating cake mostly

So, I'm planning to run in the morning. Got a holiday coming up so need to get moving. I might even pack my trainers.

Good grief. Did I really just say that??

FuckThisShit · 19/05/2013 22:39

Thanks Hunter! It's funny you've said 'running lark' as that exactly how I referred to it when I posted on my FB asking BIWI and a couple of others for good apps to get! Do come and join us; I've been assured that there will be gin and tonics at the end for us.

Tee2072 · 20/05/2013 07:54

Hi all!

Brought over from the same thread that brought FTS!

I'm on week 2 this week. I don't actually run due to a dodgy knee but do a power walk on the running bits.

wibblyjelly · 20/05/2013 08:18

Hello all! I'm off for w5r2 tonight, and a bit nervous. I'll power through though. I said to dh the other day that I was worried I hadn't pushed myself hard enough, as when I finished running, it hadn't taken me as long to get my breath back. He looked a bit Hmm and reminded me that was the whole point, and I was just getting fitter Smile

sparkle12mar08 · 20/05/2013 10:15

Just back from w7 r1, except the app conked out at some point and instead of doing 25 mins I ended up doing 28 and a half minutes (and 4.62km)! Oh well! Don't know whether or not to skip this week now and go straight to the 28min of wk8 runs?

HunterWellies · 20/05/2013 14:08

Hi Tee good to have you here too :) I don't think my version of running is very different from a power walk actually... My knee twinged a bit today so I just went steady. 'Ran' 3k at 8minutes 40secs per km this morning. I can only get away for 40 minutes at a time so need to speed up if I'm to cover 5k in that time and still be able to warm up/cool down.

Sparkle I'm not sure what to advise, I think most would say stick with the programme to avoid injury etc but you sound like a bit of a pro to me... Maybe you could ditch it and go solo now? Or start a 10k programme?

HunterWellies · 20/05/2013 14:10

Oh and well done Wibbly! Can't believe you're nearly up to the 20 minute run already. Time flies around here eh?

sparkle12mar08 · 20/05/2013 17:44

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Me, a pro?!

Hahahahaahaha! You wouldn't think so if you saw me in my crappy old jogging bottoms and my oh-so-classy bum bag, gasping at the end of a session and looking like I've been dragged through a hedge!

Have decided to stick with the programme anyway though, as I feel wiped out this afternoon, really tired and couldn't keep my eyes open. I don't know whether it's coincidence or not, but on the odd couple of occassions where I've done a bit too much in the previous weeks I've always felt the worse for it. I have decided to carry on with the zenlabs 10k programme after this as I think an hour is a nice amount of time, and I know I can find it 2-3 times a week. I'm very lucky to have some great country side within a five minute walk from the house, so it's also a lovely view while I'm doing it. I may not make 10k within the hour (and tbh I think it's unlikely for me) but as a time target, it suits me.

wibblyjelly · 20/05/2013 18:47

Week 5 Run 2 complete. Does anyone else feel like answering Laura back?
Laura-you just ran for 8 minutes non stop, are you proud of yourself?
Me-Actually Laura, I'm feeling sweaty, tired and I still have your effing 5 minute warm down to do. I'll feel proud when I'm slobbed on the sofa, with a cup of Brew in my hand Grin

FuckThisShit · 20/05/2013 22:54

Today I've been and bought a good pair of running shoes, support scaffolding bra, exercise legging sort of thingies and earphones - one of my children has pilfered my good ones fuckers.

Will drop the urch at nursery school and then it's off to Battersea Park as I rather fancy running along the river. My first EVER run and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Question though please: what is best to have for breakfast? Normally it involves two cups of coffee and little else. Should I have porridge with berries and wotnot, or will that be too heavy? Or should I have an apple and then have porridge when I get back? Or a smoothie with some oats thrown in? I have strawbs, raspberries and blueberries. Milk or juice (apple) and natural yogs. Sorry for all the questions, but thank you in advance for help and advice.

I really am a proper novice, so all suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

NoBusinessLikeSnowBusiness · 21/05/2013 00:23

FTS It sort of depends on how you function and the gap between waking and going out. On the few occasions Ive done morning runs if it's going to be a few hours until I run then I do have porridge (my normal breakfast anyway) but if it's only about an hour then I'll just hav a banana. I do make sure I've had a good bit of water though. If you're doing the nhs plan with the 8 separate minute intervals or similar you'll proba ly be ok whatever you do at that stage. Good luck - a run along the Thames sounds ace.

I did my race for life on Sunday, the reason for starting C25K three months ago. It was a lovely day, there was a large group of us doing run or walk, AND I smashed my time from last week's parkrun by nearly 3 minutes to 31m21s despite having a cold. Hugely pleased. We've raised over £2,000 between us all too in memory of my late colleague. Marvellous. Going to do another r4l next month now!

HunterWellies · 21/05/2013 04:47

Brilliant Snow! I must look into doing a charity run. My head is too full of other things just now but quite a lot of that should be clear by August so maybe in the Autumn?

FTS oat smoothie and/ or banana if running within the hour sound good to me.

Enjoy your first run. What a backdrop! Also an advantage of running in London I think is no-one else gives a shit what you are up to do they? unlike my nosy fellow villagers who pass comment on my every fart

FuckThisShit · 21/05/2013 07:34

Haha at your nosy villagers Hunter! It is a view and a half, and will give me something to focuse on I reckon lord knows I need it Grin

Thank you both, yes it will be in about an hour and a quarter from now, so I'll make the smoothie when I get back then I think.

Wow NBLSB that's some smashing of your time, brilliant!

wibblyjelly · 21/05/2013 07:59

When you run, do you all run the same route each run? I try and vary it, but not sure if I should be doing the same route each time.

HunterWellies · 21/05/2013 08:06

Wibbly I've been running the same route just because I like to see if I'm improving and it's a nice flat easy circular route from my front door.

If I want to vary it I go in the other direction :o

sparkle12mar08 · 21/05/2013 08:39

I have two runs I do, mostly in blocks. Think I'll try alternating them when I graduate. One is more road/pavenment based than the other grass/trail, so I also vary them according to the weather. I'd like to find more though.

wibblyjelly · 21/05/2013 08:53

My problem is that I live at the top of a hill, so anyway I go always ends up with an uphill bit Sad
