I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Thanks Eau, I'll look up some exercises. Wibbly you are hardcore and even reading that squat programme makes me want to lie down! A great idea though, I want to get stronger.

I suspect the hip thing is from running on the road and I still probably have some relaxin in my joints as I'm just coming up to 6 months PP and breastfeeding. I had SPD in pregnancy so maybe I need to get my osteopath to click things around again. It's a bit better but still aching. Going to give it another day before I run and go to the park to run in grass next time.

wibblyjelly · 14/05/2013 21:42

Glad you are going to be getting back out there theyoni One of my fears is getting injured, as I don't want to have to stop now that I've started.
The squats are hard, but they aren't taking up too much time, so I just try and get it done in the morning.

sparkle12mar08 · 15/05/2013 08:40

Technically I should be running w6 r2 this morning but I haven't had a two day rest over the weekend, I'm tired, in a bad mood, and it's raining, so.... I'm bailing. Sue me. Weather should improve tomorrow so I'll either go late tonight or early tomorrow.

And hallelujah - I've finally found a decent sports bra for these babies! The Panache underwired sports bra it is, they are going no where in such a beast of a bra, and at 30H that's saying something!

On injuries, it scares me too. I thought I'd really buggered my ankle over the weekend but thankfully all seems well now, but I'm not going to be taking any risks with niggles from now on. Any sign of knee problems and I'll drop straight back to power walking for a week. Running and walking burn roughly the same amount of calories per mile, but walking reduces your chance of joint problems massively - it just takes longer to cover the same distance that's all. But I have six hours while the kids are at school so I reckon I can afford the extra time if needs be.

Keep plugging away everyone!

EauRouge · 15/05/2013 09:48

Hahaha, that was rubbish Grin At least I went though! I ended up walking half of the first km because I was going uphill into a 25mph wind. I had to walk a few other bits here and there too. My aim was to run 6k and I walked/ran 5k- oh dear. Still managed just under 32 mins, maybe I can walk faster than I can run!

spaceal · 15/05/2013 11:02

Hi everyone. Can I join you? I've just finished week 1 - yay!

I've got a 2 year old DD and have done almost no exercise since getting pregnant with her. Eeek. And I'm a good two stone overweight (at least!).

I did a 5k Race for Life about 7 years ago but haven't done any running since. It's going OK so far though and I even did one of my runs in the rain.

Can I ask if any of you using the NHS podcasts are also using a tracking app? Do you just start that before starting the podcast and leave it running? I'm not really sure how they'd both work together.

And what's the best tracking app? A friend suggested RunKeeper...

sparkle12mar08 · 15/05/2013 11:30

I use the Zenlabs c25k free app - I start my own music first then start the app off. Sometimes I run endomondo in the background too to get an estimate of distance as well. I think Runkeeper has it's own c25k programme too, as does Mapmyrun.

wibblyjelly · 15/05/2013 12:03

space I use run keeper, only so I can keep an eye on my distance.

NoBusinessLikeSnowBusiness · 15/05/2013 13:31

Hello. I did the parkrun on sat for the first time and it'sas my first go at 5k proper too. Did it in 34m03s and was delighted with that. Have race for life on Sunday so went for a 36 min run last night and will do one more on either thurs or Friday. I'm still listening to laura as I need to upgrade my phone to be able to use other music and apps.

Hello to the new people and well done to everyone who did significant runs recently. I still can't quite believe I've finished it. I gad a big shock on Monday when I discovered I'd lost 2.5lb since last week so clearly the long runs make a big difference. I'm only 1.5 lb off my pre dc2 weight now and I have t say I feel fabulous EXCEPT for [TMI ALERT] a horrendous pile which popped up at the weekend Blush. I've been doing other exercise too so hoping that hasn't been the cause. it was v painful on Sunday and I was worried it was gong to stop me running! Off to the docs later. I got it first when pg with dd (dc2) but never this badly.....

HunterWellies · 15/05/2013 15:20

Snow ouch! Good luck with that...

And Eau I sometimes think I walk faster than I run too :o At least you went... I took one look at the weather this morning and decided not to bother. Just sitting here now with a Brew and a packet couple of Jaffa cakes Blush

EauRouge · 15/05/2013 15:34

I just checked my stats and my first k was faster than my second k. I'm going to walk parkrun this weekend, see if I get a PB Grin

HunterWellies · 16/05/2013 10:23

Well I'm glad I waited. It's a lovely morning here and I set off again without the c25k app, just MapMyRun and Radio 2 for company!

I ran 3k in 25 minutes which works out at just over 8 minutes per kilometre according to the stats. Haven't looked at my splits yet but I'm happy with that, considering I was running almost 10 min / km just over a week ago.

I obviously have a way to go until I can do 5k in 30 minutes but for me, that can wait. I am so happy to be able to go out running for half an hour, three times per week. 9 weeks ago I was puffing away at 90 second runs and feeling sick, wanting to stop.

So, officially my next run is 'graduation' but if no-one minds, I'll stick around on this thread and keep working up to the 5k goal.

But for now, thank you to everyone who has supported me in getting this far. I never thought I'd do it, honestly, but I'm sure that reporting back here each step along the way has made all the difference. Thanks guys! Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 16/05/2013 10:45

I had a good run this morning too! Lovely bright sunshine, some decent fast paced music, and my proper sports bra! Felt really good, and splits were okay despite an occasionally variable pace according to endomondo. Nonetheless I'm on for a 30min 5km by the end so if I can just get my music really nailed I'll be very happy.

wibblyjelly · 16/05/2013 11:15

Well done hunter and sparkle!

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 16/05/2013 14:13

Congratulations Hunter and Sparkle! Really inspiring! This thread is helping me to stay motivated. Ran W5R1 this morning with my dodgy hip. It was ok, I ran on grass and my hip is still tender but no worse. Think I need some strength training. Does anyone else find running on grass makes you more breathless?

sparkle12mar08 · 16/05/2013 14:36

Not so much breathless, but I find it makes my thighs and calves ache a little more. I think it's because they have to work that little bit harder to stabilise us as we run on an inherently variable surface.

wibblyjelly · 16/05/2013 16:11

Had a crappy day, ds was up a lot during the night, which he hasn't done for ages, so I'm knackered. Things have just gone wrong today, and I'm in a grumpy mood as a result. I really don't fancy a run, but I am going to force myself out as soon as dh gets home......

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 16/05/2013 17:02

Wibbly you'll feel much better when you've done it!

wibblyjelly · 16/05/2013 18:39

Done, farewell week 4. I always get excited when I finish a week, and then remember there is worse to come. I'm a bit disappointed with my distance, 2.79 compared to 3.12 on the last run. Is it bad that I'm now relaxing with an ice cold beer that dh put in the freezer for means a surprise for when I got back? Smile

HunterWellies · 16/05/2013 19:07

Not at all Wibbly! As soon as this baby boy I am feeding has nodded off that's where I'm headed... :o

EauRouge · 16/05/2013 19:42

Surely the whole point of C25k is so that we can drink more wine?

sparkle12mar08 · 16/05/2013 20:08

like!

wibblyjelly · 16/05/2013 20:18

Phew! I feel much better now

sparkle12mar08 · 17/05/2013 10:24

Week 6 run 3 done and dusted. Felt a bit harder than I'd expected but I also ran yesterday too. Am back to normal next week though, two days off over the weekend then every other day - mon, weds, fri. Am looking forward to seeing how my distances improve with the increased running times next week and the week after. Increasing my music tempo has definitely helped, it's much easier to run into the music rhythm than to subconciously fight it Smile

wibblyjelly · 18/05/2013 09:09

Week 6 run 1 completed, alongside 75 squats. I was channeling Dory from Finding Memo during the runs 'just keep running, just keep running...'

FoundAChopinLizt · 18/05/2013 09:59

Hi all!

Like Wibbly, just completed wk6r1, pouring rain here, but still enjoyed it. Am going to borrow dhs iPhone with runtastic app on Tuesday, so I can get an idea of my pace.

I find the first few minutes of the run by far the hardest, like running through treacle!Grin
