Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Hi to all the new people!

Just finished wk6r2, which is 2 sets of 10mins with a three minute walk in the middle. Went faster than on the 20min run, but certainly got more sweaty than usual. It is getting warmer here, though and was reluctant to take off my jacket as it has the best pocket for 'Laura'.

Next is the 25min nonstop runShockbut running class before that which is 2x10 mins then 5 mins.

I've actually got 'baby' leg muscles growing for the first time in my life!

Throughgrittedteeth · 21/05/2013 22:22

Just finished my 2nd run Smile after inspiration from MN.
You're all babes Wink
Definitely found the second one easier, I'm also not so sweaty tonight! Looking forward to run3 now! Well done everyone WineBrewThanks

LIZS · 22/05/2013 11:29

Still struggling to download it . :( Can't get Flash player installed on my phone so can't use NHS version, which one do I need from Playstore and will that work without Flash ?

sparkle12mar08 · 22/05/2013 12:51

Zenlabs all the way imo, Lizs.

W7 R2 done today, legs and pace felt all over the place for the first ten minutes, just couldn't find my rhythm. I really think that the programme is very well designed because every time I go off piste for whatever reason, it feels awful the run after!

Had a look at the map last night and sized up another couple of routes, but they're a bit longer than 5k so I don't know if I'll try them just yet. Or maybe I'll walk a bit longer at the end instead. They're lovely country side routes and one of them is along a ridge line with some amazing views (I hope!, not actually been over it yet but it looks as if there's only a small hedge running alongside).

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 22/05/2013 13:24

Hi to new runners! Right, I've rested my hip for almost a week so I'm going to try again tonight. Hip is no longer painful (still a bit tender but pretty convinced its a muscle thing).
Going to repeat w5r1 as I've had 6 days of no running. Hope it works!!

LIZS · 22/05/2013 13:28

Thanks will try again later.

wibblyjelly · 22/05/2013 16:41

I may skip tonight, and go out tomorrow instead. Just not feeling it today, and I have just had a 10 minute walk up an epic hill....

NoBusinessLikeSnowBusiness · 22/05/2013 21:00

I've run 5k three times. Last night I went out and it was a beautiful evening. I went a new route to two parks including next to the river and I was just running like I never have before. I was totally in the zone and just felt like I could go forever. I was just listening to my own music for the first time, no timing or podcast so I just kept going. I ran for 45.5minutes and did just under 7k!!!!! (6.81 to be precise). I was amazed and delighted. That is without doubt the best run I've ever had in my entire life. Wonderful, wonderful; made all the times ivestruggled totally worth it. I was full of the joys. And vest of all my legs and knee are fine today.

sparkle12mar08 · 22/05/2013 22:04

There's a scene in What Women Want where the Helen Hunt character is reflecting on what to put in a Nike advert, and you've basically summed it up NoBusiness - it's our time, our space, our running, for us, and nobody else. This is what running can do for us, balance our emotions and minds.

Yay for us Smile

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 22/05/2013 22:57

Hip twinged and I chickened out! I'll try tomorrow.

EauRouge · 23/05/2013 10:12

I went out to do 6k this morning and totally choked :( I got stitch at 3k and just couldn't shake it off. Took a shortcut home and managed just under 5k walking and running. I guess my fitness level has dropped more than I thought it had during the illness that I just got over. Bugger.

wibblyjelly · 23/05/2013 19:59

So, something strange just happened. I appear to have run for 20 minutes non stop!! Grin

eau just take it easy, I'm sure you'll be back to speed in no time.

EauRouge · 23/05/2013 20:59

You did it! Well done! It feels great, doesn't it?

wibblyjelly · 23/05/2013 21:06

Feels amazingGrin . I really struggled through the first 10 minutes, the got into the rhythm. However, found it hard when she said I had 2 minutes to go. I'm having a proper rest day tomorrow as a reward, no running, squats or crunches. Just a day running around after my 8 month old ds Grin

EauRouge · 23/05/2013 21:10

Ha, you know you've been working hard when looking after an 8 month old is considered a rest day Grin The first 10 minutes is always the worst for me as well; there's probably some kind of secret to getting it right but I don't know what it is.

Enjoy your 'rest' day!

FoundAChopinLizt · 23/05/2013 22:08

Well done Wibbly!

I've just got back from my running class, two sets of ten mins plus a five, two min walk breaks, plenty hills! I really enjoyed it and have officially signed up for the 5k at the end of June.

I'm planning wk6r3 on Sunday, which is 25mins.

HunterWellies · 23/05/2013 22:30

Hello hello! Well done Wibbly! We both did w5r3 today it turns out. I'm on holiday (and still running... I am officially strange) so I thought I'd better do a trial run to see how it was in the heat. So I picked 20 minutes. It was warm but not too bad, just need to drink extra water really.

I'm so used to my usual route it was really odd being somewhere totally different, I think it helped actually. A bit like a movie, just running along the coast looking at the sea, amazing :o

I could get used to this...

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 23/05/2013 22:51

Well done Wibbly!! Are the squats helping the runs do you think? I am officially back in the game, went out tonight and hip seems fine! Stretched really carefully before and after and it helped. Having said that I went back two runs to W4R3 as I was worried about how I'd cope after a week off and even that was hard, got a stitch on the second 5 min run and tailed off with 30 secs to go. Also doing a low carb diet this week though so I wonder I'd that could be part of the problem. I had a weird blood sugar drop this morning!

sparkle12mar08 · 24/05/2013 07:38

That you mention blood sugar is really interesting, Theyoni. I find I've been eating far more carby breackfasts than before I started running, and I run about 90mins after I eat in the morning. The odd days where I've had a protein based breakfast I seem to find it just generally harder. Not that I can't do it, just that it all seems longer and more of an effort. I think I still need to find that balance.

wibblyjelly · 24/05/2013 07:42

Yoni, to be honest, I don't know if they are helping or not, as I've never run before, with or without squats. They don't seem to be stopping me, in any case. Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 25/05/2013 13:06

Did wk7 r3 today, or rather I started it, the app conked out (again, sigh) and I ended up running for 33mins altogether and covered the 5k! I tried my new route and it was lovely, across country fields, nice and steady once I'd sorted out my legs after a fast start. I'm thinking I won't bother with week 8 to be honest, I'll try and stick with doing at least 30mins three times a week, adding five mins every week till I get to an hour. I'm also going to order some proper running tights and a top this weekend, cotton jersey is just too warm now!

wibblyjelly · 25/05/2013 15:58

Week 6 started. Was a bit disappointed to be going back to running on intervals after having run for 20 minutes straight last run, but it turned out to be a good idea, as I found today quite hard. Best moment though was when an old lady started cheering me on as I ran past her :-)

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 26/05/2013 00:38

Hello there. Ive popped up on various threads and lurked on here but now feel i need to post to keep motivated.

W6 R2 done this morning and it felt challenging. Makes it feel awesome though that I DID IT !!! Don't know how I. Earth I will run 22 mins straight next time but 8 days ago I hadn't run more than 8 minutes at a time so I'll keep on trusting the programme and try to not talk myself out of it!

I am a short lardy arse who has never really run in her life. This c25k app is great. I am loving it.

Goals are to complete the programme, pick up pace ( i really am very very slow) until I am fit for a 5k parkrun locally then do a 5k parkrun in Brisbane in August when we visit family.

HunterWellies · 26/05/2013 08:42

I found week 6 hard. I think once you've done a bl

HunterWellies · 26/05/2013 08:46

Sorry! Once you've done a block run, interval runs seem harder somehow.

The trick to block runs is to find the right pace and stick to it. By the end of week 7 I had done that and it's been great since then.

I still haven't graduated btw but I'm really settling into my routine of three half hour running sessions per week. This is just what I wanted from c25k. A free exercise programme that fits into my schedule with a toddler and a newborn.

I used to hate running. It's amazing what I will do for half an hour's peace and quiet now :o
