Does anyone want to join me. Its my third attempt started today.

The first time I got pregnant mid way through. Second time was the start of the year and it was too snowy and cold and I was ill.

So psyched myself up again.

I need some company.

Oooh and think of the delicious hot shower when you get home...

MirandaWest · 17/09/2012 14:43

Did my run :) and feel good :)

And now I've got my Nike plus thingy working with my Robert podcast I know I did 2.12 miles and at an average of 11.22 miles per minute. And considering there was quite a bit of walking that's not too bad. Dd push myself at the end of the second 3 minute run and ran properly for the first time in a long time :)

MirandaWest · 17/09/2012 14:44

I bought the shred DVD ages ago. Still in its box....Blush

tuckingfits · 17/09/2012 15:09

Well done! So us the nike plus thingy (what?!) the way to go then? I've got a ouch to 5k tracker on my phone,it's really pretty basic - tells you when to walk/run that's it,no music to take your mind off the pain... My iPod appears to have died...

can you recommend a podcast/app thingy for a non-iPhone with music etc?

I've been putting my route into map my run afterwards along with the length of time taken & I'm up to 2.39 miles which I'm very proud of!

tuckingfits · 17/09/2012 15:10

Haha! I really really need to start checking my posts first. Is not us,couch not ouch!!

MirandaWest · 17/09/2012 15:12

The Nike plus thingy is a thing I put into my iPod nano (which also has my podcast on) and then it talks to a thingy on my shoe. You can get special Nike shoes with it built in or put a thing on. It tells me how far I've gone and how many calories and average speed etc. And on the podcast Robert Ullrey or however he is spelled tells me when to do

Will run to my own music once I'm a bit better but for now I need Robert encouraging me Grin

MirandaWest · 17/09/2012 15:13

I thnk ouch to 5k is quite appropriate really.....

tuckingfits · 17/09/2012 15:29

Yes I thought so too when I saw it. Although ouch to ouchier may be better. Hmmm, maybe the nike plus thing isn't for me then. I think I'll need to put some music on my phone & just look at the screen for walk/run. Mine can't seem to cope with running more than one thing at a time which might make the music thing impossible until I can just run for the whole time.

I wear a heart rate monitor & it reckons I'm burning around 380kcals a time, but map my run suggests 199 each time. Which do you think is more realistic? When I was shredding hrm reckoned between 250 & 310 depending on how hard I worked... Bfbm was in the high 500s & I'm going to be gutted if it is over-calculating my efforts!

piprabbit · 17/09/2012 15:58

You can put the NHS Choices Couch to 5K podcasts on any mp3 player. You don't have to use iTunes, you can just download them week by week to your PC then copy across to your mobile thingy.

HalleLouja · 17/09/2012 16:55

Ouch to Ouchier. Very apt. Am nice and sore today.....

I work on my non run days so I won't really want to do any exercise as I'm already doing pole fitness on one of the days! But I thought if I run, then go home and shred, I will have a day In between to recover! And that will still be under an hours exercise 3 times per week!

Well today I treated myself, I bought new full length nike leggings for running (even though I run in the gym and won't et cold) and I also treated myself to a tennis skirt for my pole fitness class, as I felt like a chubby frump in my shorts! Now I feel slightly sexier!!

Also just wondering, I see some of you are on week 5, well done Smile have you noticed any difference in your body yet?

tuckingfits · 18/09/2012 00:39

Holy hell that was hard! I strapped my ankle up & it was fine, but from about half way just above both ankles on either side of my legs were incredibly painful. They feel swollen & extremely tender. Nothing to see. I pushed on & completed what I thought was week two day one, however after all that pain I discovered I had pressed play for week one day two! Argh!!!

So I walked home wincing all the way of the cool down (and a bit more because I got a leetle carried away & ended up further from home,or maybe just ran slower than normal),with pain shooting thru my lower legs up thru the insides of my knees & up my thighs to my hips Sad

I don't want to stop but I can't carry on like that... I don't know what I can do Sad

Thanks for the tips piprabbit. Perhaps i ought to see if the NHS one is a gentler break in than what I've been doing. Maybe i need a longer more thorough warm up too. Boo to pain.

AuntieBulgaria · 18/09/2012 10:08

Tuckingfits - that sounds awful. I know some gyms have good sports masseurs/ therapists ; could you get some advice? Are your trainers good? Perhaps post on running world or something? .

Good lord- the first 8 min run today. I have met my match i think. This was the first time i wasn't certain if i could make it to the end. It wasn't my legs but my breathing that's definitely the problem. The last 60 seconds on that second 8 minute run were interminable.

But I did it, and now I'm all fired up for garden clearing. I'm just not going to think about the 20 minuter around the corner.

piprabbit · 18/09/2012 22:03

Hope your ankle is starting to feel more comfy, tucking - it sounds really horrible. Have you tried ice and pain killers? If it's not feeling better soon, I agree with Auntie that you need to get an expert opinion.

Auntie - congratulations on completing your first 8min runs today. I'm due to due mine on my next run (Thursday I think), so I will think of you while I'm running if I need some extra inspiration.

BTW I've just been wandering round the NHS Choices website and found that, not only do they have the fab C25K podcasts, they also have a series of podcasts for C25K graduates (get me - thinking about week 9 when I've not finished week 5) and a series of podcasts for people wanting to build their strength and flexibility (press ups, squats etc.). So many podcasts - so little time.

AuntieBulgaria · 18/09/2012 23:20

Piprabbit - good luck, Christ though, don't think about me when you're running, my sweaty phyisog would put anyone off.

I'm impressed by anyone that runs around hills - I'm running in the fens, a speed bump is an incline round here.

MirandaWest · 18/09/2012 23:33

Week 3 run 2 tomorrow - will do it straight after taking DC to school. Am at the stage where I'm mostly enjoying it although have to remember I am only running for three minutes at most...l

piprabbit · 18/09/2012 23:38

More along the lines of "if Auntie can bloody well do it..."

MirandaWest · 19/09/2012 09:36

Back from my run :) was a bit harder today Confused but kept myself going by the method of muttering expletives under my breath Grin. Will I really be up to week 4 next week I wonder.....

Movingforward123 · 19/09/2012 09:40

tucking sounds painful, I don't think I would run if it was me!

Week 2 day 2 completed! I found it really hard today, I guess my cold is still lurking! But glad I did it Smile

tuckingfits · 19/09/2012 11:35

Well done everybody!

I don't think I'll be running today. Still really sore & not in that good ache-y satisfying way. Keep getting shooting pains up my left thigh, like cramp perhaps. Fortunately I have a doctor appt this afternoon anyway,so I'll ask him what he thinks the pains are & what I can do about it. Bloody annoying. DP keeps saying "perhaps running just isn't for you"...

HalleLouja · 19/09/2012 18:28

Tucking can you go and see a physio maybe? They might be able to help. My old pilates teacher was a physio. Pilates is really good for strengthening you up. I am not convinced your DP is right.

I did week 5 day 2. Two 8 minute runs. I think I will feel it in the morning. The middle of the second run was awful. But by the end of the second run I got in my stride. Not sure how I will go on Friday for the big 20 minute run [faints].

Its a bit of a me me me post. I was talking to my new pilates teacher after the lesson and she said I was doing better since I started running. Apparently my movements are more controlled and she can really see the difference. I think my legs are getting more toned at the top but could be imagining it.

Moving if you run and shred on the same day can you give me an update. I might Shred Monday and Wednesdays. Soon my friend will be doing a keep fit class on Thursdays. I try to run Fridays, Sundays and one other day. Surely all that will help me turn into a size 10. Maybe.

OP posts:
AuntieBulgaria · 19/09/2012 21:44

HalleLouja -that's us both going for 20 minutes on Friday (I can't fit it in tomorrow). I'll keep going if you keep going.... And if we keep going, Piprabbit will keep going on Saturday. Yay, go us!

piprabbit · 20/09/2012 09:54

I'm right behind you both Grin.

Week 5 run 2 done today. I still can't quite believe it - but I felt quite comfortable doing the session. The time went really fast, I didn't feel like I was working too hard and I was able to speed up for the last 60secs of the 2nd run - because I felt like I could. In fact, I really, really enjoyed it. Weird!
I had a 2 day rest between runs this time - perhaps that suited my body better? So I'm not sure if I'll do W5R3 on Saturday or Sunday - I'm not looking forward to it, but I do feel a lot more confident after today's run.

tucking - I hope your injury is improving and that you get some useful advice from your doctor.

countingdown · 20/09/2012 12:48

I'm doing my first 20 minute run on Friday too! It is definitely getting easier, but 20 minutes does still seem like a VERY long time!! Good luck everyone.
