Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Glad boys got away ok before the snow.

Just been out for what is usually my long Sunday run but it was a new run that turned out to be just under 3.5 miles, but it was a beautiful day for it, just the right temperature and still. The trees look fab and the run after the hill at the beginning [hhmm] was a fairly comfortable if slow run (maybe I should just stop talking to DH and run instead - it might speed me up a bit!!). A good run - I would even go so far as to say I enjoyed it - even while I was running. I left DH part way round as he tackles the big hills and I am too scared don't want to slow him up as its his last opportunity to run the hills for a while.

I hope everyone else has been running too.....? Nell how 'bout you? (you did say you needed nagging [hgrin] )

NellVarnish · 30/10/2011 14:33

Yes Jelli, I do need nagging. Thanks for that. [hwink] See now, reading your post has inspired me to go out as it is a lovely day here and the leaves are beautiful b u t there's always a but, I've got to go out in Mum's Taxis shortly and then by the time I get back it'll be getting dark, excuses, excuses.

Aww shredded I'm so pleased your boys had a good time - it must've been lovely to have them. And so brave of them to travel alone. I know when mine have gone as U/M's, I've been worried sick about them, but they have been fine. Did the snow materialise?

Hey there LooseHooker, hope you're having fun with Linzer and WhoKnows - am waving madly at you with my Halloween nails, can you see?

Well done countess, W6R2, that's brilliant! And molly, half marathon sounds great - I'd be pleased to do half a kilometre at the mo. [hgrin]

My Halloween nails: Klean Colour Chunky Black Holo over black today with an orange pumpkin on one ring finger and a white ghost on the other thanks to my girlie teenagers.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/10/2011 14:53

Am in big London finding Linzer and Whoknows. I imagine they will be wearing trainers

But I ran today......

For the train Grin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/10/2011 15:05

pistey

The snow has more or less vanished overnight. Boys are safely back home. I'm waiting for DH to get up so I can decide whether to go for a short or a long run.

Though actually I'd rather go out for a monster brunch and chill out ofr the rest of the day like we did yesterday.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/10/2011 15:06

sorry, no weather-related pun intended!

KristinaM · 30/10/2011 15:38

Nell, Im not usually a nail polish person ( tasteful beige here) but that Halloween polish is really soemthing! Did you layer it over black?

Ran first thing this morning as kids up at 6 am ( sigh). W5R3 with the big scary 20 min run and it was fine. I even ran a bit more and got my time down to 30:10 ish. Now i have that elusive 30 min barrier in sight im very encouraged. I know its taken me longer than 5 weeks but so far im injury free, which was a big issue for me

NellVarnish · 30/10/2011 16:29

Yes I did Kristina - I have been known to wear tasteful colours too at times, I like OPI Samoan Sand and You Don't Know Jacques, and a China Glaze one whuch hasn't got a name but is like a tanny coral - but tis Halloween and I'm a sucker for a bit of sparkle. [hgrin]

Get you Pistey aaaht an abaaahht in Big London. You do realise as a old lady hick from the sticks, I would have to be met at the station and escorted around [hwink] should I venture south? Or I might have to wear a label, like this.

shredded. I vote for lie in and go for brunch. Russian Tea Rooms. Go. Now.

As you might have guessed, I have done bugger all today. [hgrin]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2011 21:03

Well, just got back from London, where nail varnish was discussed, compared and in my case bought in Selfridges. Nell - it was a toss-up between Samoan Sand and Tickly My France-y which just won in the end, I also indulged in DS temptation which just jumped off the shelf at me.

We might have mentioned running . It was a lovely afternoon, we did in fact talk about running quite a bit and managed to resist eating any cake which was probably a good thing, although they did look v.nice.

Kristina - well done on your W5R3

Shredded - glad your boys got home safely hope you enjoyed brunch

I've got to get out again tomorrow. I am going to try Week 1 again to try and increase my speed a bit more.

NellVarnish · 30/10/2011 21:28

Atta girl WhoKnows, lovely purchases especially the DS Temptation. WOW! Just WOW! Looks tres gorgeoise.

Glad you all had fun and touched on the subject of running. [hgrin]

I might, just might, go out in the morning ...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/10/2011 22:12

Such lovely pictures on Facebook

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/10/2011 22:14

that would be on Facebook NellyBear

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/10/2011 22:51

Ah yes, Facebook. Just had a look Pistey, those nails do look stunning!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/10/2011 22:59

Gorgeoise. And all there on facebook
Anyone like to see our pics? Facebook is the place. Sweaty love, you seen them yet?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/10/2011 23:18

yes, I had a good look at those pictures you posted on facebook pistey. Lovely to see you all having what looked like a lot of fun Smile. What a shame poor Nell won't be able to see them Sad.

I'min definite PRSP/halo-burnishing territory. I did a lap of Central Park, measured it to exactly 10k, and knocked over 2 mins of my last time despite no exercise all week. And, the best bit, burnt over 500 calories in the process Grin

NellVarnish · 31/10/2011 00:28

Grrrrrrr. [hangry]

LinzerTorte · 31/10/2011 05:55

I have also just been looking at the photos on Facebook. It was a lovely afternoon and we did actually talk quite a bit about running. And about nail polish, of course. And we admired WhoKnows' OPI purchases (see photos on Facebook).

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/10/2011 06:24

All of that and Sweaty's pumpkins.....

KristinaM · 31/10/2011 09:30

Who knows -the wind farm near us has a visitors centre! If thats the one yiu are coming to then let me know and we can compare nailpolish go for a run together

Loving the tasteful beige polish. I have to stick to beige as i have weird handsBlushand short nails

BafangaTheSombre · 31/10/2011 10:30

Morning all

Was absolutely chucking it down this AM, so decided to stay in bed.
Will go out after work though, whilst DS is out with a friend trick or treating.

Glad that you all had a nice time talking about nailpolish Grin, although I think that the reference to facebook are somewhat going over my head Hmm.

My nails are a the lovely westside warrior green, although I ended up having to redo two after washing up several hours after I thought that they were dry and they smudged [grr].

Hope everyone is having a good day, it actually still felt like a long lie this morning with the clocks changing, which was really nice. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/10/2011 11:26

Morning all,

Bafanga Sorry about the FB stuff, Pistey, Linzer and I used it to facilitate the meetup, Pistey has been trying to persuade Nell to go on FB and is therefore dangling the carrot of photos of nailvarnish! How annoying having to do yours twice. I have been using Sally Hansen quick drying topcoat and it is very good, I get changed ready for bed and then do nails just before getting into bed, works really well.

Kristina - I can't remember the name of it, think it was about half an hour south of Glasgow, someone told me about it a year or so ago. We won't be back up there till next August though. I have stumpy fingers and short nails, i avoided dark/bright colours for years but tried some last year and found to my surprise that they looked good. For most of my adult life I have had jobs where I couldn't wear it, so never bothered too much but I am liberated with an office job now!

Been out for a run this morning, decided to ring the changes with a week 1, fast runs interspersed with jogging/walking. It was drizzly but not too wet, felt quite nice and cooling on my face.

countessbabycham · 31/10/2011 20:31

Evening everyone! Well done with your running and nail painting prowess.

Enjoy your run this morning Nell???Wink

Shredded I am Envy of the stage you're at.

I went out and did Wk6R3 this afternoon.

25 mins straight after a yoga class.

countessbabycham · 31/10/2011 23:45

Did I earn cottage pie,2 bags of crisps,a mint Aero bar, some chocolate cake, assorted trick or treat sweets and a can of cider then?

Blush
NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 31/10/2011 23:52

Countess, once you can run for half an hour you can run for 40 mins, then 50, then an hour...it took me an hour and 10 mins yesterday. DH does it in 55 mins or less, so my target is to do it in an hour.

The first time I ran so far, I didn't set out to. I just decided to see how far I could go, knowing that if I needed to give up and walk.

My legs are very sore today!

countessbabycham · 01/11/2011 00:03

Yes Shredded I can see that being true.

I kind of find the 'longer' runs better than the stop-start as you pace yourself more, give up on the idea of walking anytime soon, and rely on it easing up when you get to the top of a hill so you can keep going.

But for the time being my legs nearly gave way twice on my walking cooldown!!!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 01/11/2011 00:07

But you did yoga as well. So of course you deserve your tasty dinner Grin
