Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

PrinceRogersNelson · 01/11/2011 11:21

Hello! I couldn't find this thread, there seem to be so many.
Anyway, not been since last Thursday and have just got back from my week 3 run 1 run.

And it's my birthday. how good does that make me???
Make up for the cake I will hopefully be eating later.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 01/11/2011 11:36

Happy birthday Prince! Enjoy your cake Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/11/2011 18:58

Well done Prince and Happy Birthday, glad you found us again.

Babycham at your feast! Well done getting out straight after yoga.

Proud moment today, had to go to the Drs about something, not serious, but she had to do the usual list of questions about smoking, alcohol, weight, exercise. I was very proud to be able to say that I run three times a week instead of my usual muttering about it being difficult to find the time (GP is a mother working full time who takes part in competitive sport, is older than me and has fabulous skin and a figure to die for, she is also very nice but does tend to make me feel a bit inadequate!)

Am feeling quite inspired this week by various friends who have taken part in the Great South Run at the weekend (we live quite close to where it takes place). 10 miles though, 16k, that's a lot!

Happy Birthday Prince. Hope you enjoyed your birthday cake.

Am still in PRSP after doing W6R3 this morning. :) So I've decided I'm definitely allowed a funsize pack of maltesers. I'm blaming the rain for putting the kids off last night, has left me far too many tempting treats Grin

NellVarnish · 01/11/2011 21:19

I'll be back later to discuss FB, not really, but in the meantime ... I'll leave you with this.

And no, I've not been running. But I have been thinking about it. Grin

And Happy Birthday Prince!

NellVarnish · 01/11/2011 21:19

Those are my legs btw. Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/11/2011 21:21

Think you've overdone the fake tan a bit then Nell......

countessbabycham · 01/11/2011 21:24

Well done Prince and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I am a little ashamed of my feast yesterday, especially since you did the 25 min run today maybe (well done!) and settled for a funsize pack of Maltesers!

Oh well, little steps - to think this time last year I was eating for Britain, not doing any exercise to speak of and smoking.

I watched a bit of the 30 Day Shred DVD I got from the library and I really like the look.I've only got it for a week so DH (bless him) has bought it for me!

You know I really haven't ached today. It's quite incredible that this plan gives you such good gain with so little pain.

Good running!

maybetoday · 01/11/2011 22:03

Ah babycham the night is yet young and there are a lot more treats left over from yesterday... and I like to think I'm saving the kids teeth by eating them for them. :)

I'm not feeling too achy either, though I did feel a bit dizzy after finishing the run - think I was so focused on finishing I forgot to breathe!

I'd hoped I'd be starting to lose a bit of weight by now, but I don't think I have, though I'm definitely feeling fitter. Maybe I'll need to try to cut down on the chocolate... Oh well, one step at a time.

Good running everyone. :)

KristinaM · 02/11/2011 12:30

Yup, i havent lost much weight either, but also feeling a bit fitter. No choc leftovers in this house though Sad, kids have polished thme off

PRSP here as did 28:33 today. Please ive got under 30 mins. Good conditions, mild, dry underfoot and not much wind.v unsusual for scotland in november

Nail polish still rubbish

Nell, your legs look just like mine, excpet that my tummy is flatter Wink

countessbabycham · 02/11/2011 18:39

Evening all!

Wk7 R1 today for me.Didn't realise till today that its all 20+ min runs from now.

Have managed a more modest meal today Blush

Nell i had a little random chuckle at work today when your picture came to mind of what you think you look like running and what you actually look like.
I think it's hilarious!!!!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 02/11/2011 22:42

Kristina - great stuff! Well done!

countessbabycham · 02/11/2011 23:49

Kristina that sounds really good going! Thank Goodness for kids finishing off chocolates - I may have to force feed mine with the rest of theirs to spare me!

WhoKnows your moment at the Dr's must have felt good Smile

Shredded hope you're not aching so much today.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 03/11/2011 11:53

Morning all (well it is here)!

Thank you Countess, my legs are fine today. I'm jut back from a dark jaunt around the block - 5k in 37 something, but a there was a bit of strategic hanging around waiting for traffic lights to change to catch my breath instead of speeding up to get through them

Next time I go running will be Saturday morning, and I'll be doing my dash to the finish. I noticed on Sunday that the last bit is quite steep uphill. Bad enough at the end of a 5k, but I imagine its horrible at the end of a marathon.

Keep on running everyone!

PrinceRogersNelson · 03/11/2011 13:23

Just checking in. Week 3 run 2 done and dusted by 7:30 this am.

:)

KristinaM · 03/11/2011 17:17

Well doenprince, v impressed by the early morning runners

Shredded, that sounds fab, hope it goes well

NellVarnish · 03/11/2011 18:25

First of all let me just say that Pistey, Linzer and WhoKnows are definitely not hairy handed truckers. I've seen the photos. Grin

THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU for sending them to me Pistey, I was overcome with delight at the total gorgeoiseness of you three lovelies and your beautiful nails! Your purchases are superb WhoKnows, and your bag equally so (where's it from? Accessorize? Love it.) Linzer is that VividViolet on your pretty nails? You are all so lovely but I'm still not coming on FB.

Fake tan indeed WhoKnows.

Mwahahahaha Kristina at tummy comment, I'm pretty sure, well 100% certain it is, as mine is full of Maltesers at the moment. Well done on 28:33!

countess I can't believe that you're on W7 already! It's gone so fast. If only I'd started again when you did, you are doing brilliantly, well you all are. Glad I made you chuckle, if you saw me actually running you'd be in hysterics.

Prince well done, you're going great guns or great buns or whatever the saying is.

And shredded, how very exciting to be a part of this, we're all very proud of you and will be cheering you on from this side of the Atlantic.

Run like the wind shredded! Run like the damn coyotes are on your tail!

to anyone I've missed out, happy running everyone!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/11/2011 18:39

Why thank you Nell and yes, you are right Accessorize it is, I love, love, love my bag, it is not only bright and beautiful but very practical too, I will be very sad when it finally falls to pieces (18 months of daily use has seen many of the beads falling off).

Good luck on Saturday Shredded

Well done everyone else, it is lovely to see so much progress.

I have been for a short run tonight while the DCs were at tennis, I didn't take my phone, so I had no timings, no measurement, no music. I decided to make it a fairly slow one and just enjoy it, think I probably did just over 2k, took about 18 mins. Was very enjoyable and nice not to be thinking about speeds and distances.

I'm off to a class in a bit which is core strength for people with back problems, will report back afterwards (or tomorrow).

mollycuddles · 03/11/2011 19:21

Hi all. Been a bit quiet - apologies. Work and kids and dh stress. Nothing serious but as ever it all comes at once. Still running 4/5 times a week. Have a 10k on 19th November. Really enjoying my running club who are so nice to the struggling, wheezy old bag bringing up the rear.

LinzerTorte · 03/11/2011 19:22

Sorry we couldn't tempt you onto FB, but glad that you got to see the photos in the end Nell. Such a shame you couldn't be there so that we could admire your nails too. Smile I was also admiring your bag earlier, WhoKnows - didn't notice it at the time for some reason (probably too busy admiring your purchases).

Yes, it is Vivid Violet - I've just taken it off and am about to put on the slightly more subtle Highland Mist. I always feel like I stand out here with my purple nails as no one in Austria seems to wear dark polish and am a bit worried about looking the fingernail equivalent of overdressed, but had a visit from another lovely MNer today - and she had purple nails, which looked great and not OTT at all, so I was slightly reassured!

I was so Envy of all the people I saw running in London and almost wished I'd taken my running gear after all, although I wasn't quite so envious of the way they were having to weave in and out of the crowds of tourists. It would have been perfect running weather too. Ah well, shall have to wait until next week when the DC are back at school. I seem to be averaging a run a fortnight atm, so must do better.

LinzerTorte · 03/11/2011 19:25

Oops, a bit too much admiring going on in that first paragraph.

4-5 times a week and a 10k coming up, Molly - you put me to shame. Blush

mollycuddles · 03/11/2011 19:38

Maybe Linzer - but I'm still slower than you. :)

NellVarnish · 03/11/2011 19:44

And me molly. Blush

Linzer, the VV looked beautiful in the photos, it's so vibrant. The bottle is a bit of a rubbish design though, v. difficult to get the top off after a while. [weakling]

I'm running in my dreams, I've just not made it onto the pavement yet ...

NellVarnish · 03/11/2011 19:46

I want molly to be my personal trainer and dietician. Like Killian, but nicer and more sympathetic. Grin
