Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

brighthair · 29/11/2011 20:45

Luckily it's my rest day today with the gale force winds, rain and now giant hailstones! I am waiting impatiently for my new nail varnish to arrive so I can do my fingers

maybetoday · 29/11/2011 21:17

Hello,
Did W8R2 in the dark, gale force winds and pouring rain this morning (and I'm only slightly exaggerating :) ) I think my husband thinks I've gone loopy as running is very out of character for me - I'm more a curl up in the armchair with a good book and a cup of tea, kind of person. :)
Trying to keep going, only 4 more runs to go... I'm in Glasgow kid so am trying to resign myself to running in the dark and rain from now on...
Hope everyone's keeping warm and dry.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/11/2011 21:37

Well done everyone that's been out today, so have I (shopping, bought three nail varnishes Blush well they were on 3 for 2). Especially well done for anyone who went running and even more so those in gale force weather, was pretty foul here today too.

Nell - I need you! I requested an invitation from Pinterest last week but received nothing, if I pm you my email address would you be able to send me one?

Well done evetyone who is still running in this horribel weather. Especially maybe, who is NOT exagerating about the weathre here today. Lots of flooding etc

I went to the gym instead [wimp]. though i have to confess i am missing the running a wee bit

LinzerTorte · 29/11/2011 22:05

It was distinctly nippy here this morning (-2.5°), so I hope it will have warmed up a little by tomorrow. Even though I didn't suffer any ill effects after yesterday's run - other than my ankles being ripped to shreds - I think I'll stick to 1.5k as that was exhausting enough.

maybe You sound very similar to me - I was definitely more of a cup of tea and book person than a runner, but I managed to astound DH by sticking at it and now I'm a cup of tea and book person and a runner. Smile

Pistey, where have you beeeeen? Good to see you back on the thread. Smile

shredded Your trip sounds lovely, not least due to despite your lack of exercise. Grin

WhoKnows Guess what I found in our medicine cabinet today? A Compeed blister patch! I got it as a free sample yonks ago, so am very glad I held onto it. It's also good to know I'd be able to buy them here. I'm saving it for my run tomorrow so hope it helps, as my left ankle has been quite painful even without shoes on (I'm glad that I ignore FlyLady's lace-up shoes instructions).

I'm watching quite a few OPI polishes on eBay atm; one particular seller is selling about 10 that have only been used once. Hmm No pics either, but they are very cheap (atm). I'm also quite tempted by this.

Right, must get to bed if I'm going to have the energy to run first thing tomorrow.

kid · 29/11/2011 22:26

it should be illegal to run in minus temperatures!

I need to get some more running clothes as mine are okay for wearing to the gym and okay for the walk home after a run but not on the way out.

My next run is planned for tomorrow, I'm not looking forward to it but at least I don't have to go to work.

NellVarnish · 29/11/2011 23:02

I'm back! Grin

All this talk of Double Decker, OPI bargains, Pinterest, Nails Inc and running has tempted me back into the fold - was only a joke flounce as I knew you didn't want me to go really did you?.

WhoKnows - yes of course I'll send you one immediately - pm your email post haste or whatever the phrase is. If anyone else wants one pm me too.

shredded - glad you had a good time, got your pm - no worries, will send to NY and NO arguing. Grin

linzer - how's the knee? Going off to look at your bargainous OPI's now ...

Weather has been really fantastical today here, big, huge black lumbering clouds, gusty winds, torrential rain sideways, changing skies - sort of like the weather I grew up with. Not running weather, oh no.

But hats off to those who are running, well done!

sybilfaulty · 29/11/2011 23:09

Hello girls

I have felt so bad for falling off the thread and have had to zip through Xanadu on the ipod when I have been swimming as I felt bad for being in the pool when I should have been running with you all. Then the lovely Sweaty sent me a message and I have been lured back. How the devil are you all? I am going to try to catch up soon, but just wanted to say hello and I am sorry for being a non runner. I haven't been for weeks. The builders got the better of me and I fell into wine and crisps. I am swimming now but need to get back on the streets.

I hope you are all well, lightly shredded and well run, and I look forward to joining the happy gang again if I may.

love to you all.

NellVarnish · 29/11/2011 23:11

Linzer - you need to buy them - they are luffly colours. Out of that lot we've got You Don't Know Jaques (looks very chic and understated), Russian Navy (lovely wintery dark blue), Strawberry Margarita (bright pink, pops on your nails, came from NY :)) and Lincoln Park After Dark (on Pistey's tootsies), and they are all gorgeoise.

Buy them.

brighthair have your Nails Incs arrived yet? I can't wait although they are supposed to be a Christmas present for me DD1. I might have to test them though. Quality control and all that.

Oh actuellement I have run today. Up the car park to rescue my car which had rolled back because I forgot to put the handbrake on.

Blush x a million

NellVarnish · 29/11/2011 23:13

sybil! Hello! Welcome back, so lovely to see you - I have been rubbish too, and have not been running, nor shredding. But I have been eating chocolate and painting my nails. Grin

JelliBelli · 30/11/2011 00:34

Hi Sybil, good to see you back Grin, Nell's just about to start running again too Grin.

I did run tonight and I was quite pleased as I knocked 30 sec per min off my pace - oh hurrah! and it was an ok run too, it didn't feel like too much of a struggle.

Shredding tomorrow. But no nail garnish on fingers OR toes Blush I have no excuse.......

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/11/2011 12:51

I have Jillian yoga'd this morning. Jolly hard work - and harder than I remembered form the last time I did it a long time ago

KristinaM · 30/11/2011 14:26

Hi everyone

Ran this morning, in cold and drizzle. This is a big deal for me as im a wimp. Was inspired by those of you running in sub zero temp. And also by the storm warning for tonight /tomorrow

LinzerTorte · 30/11/2011 15:35

It was all of 1°C when I went out this morning Kristina so I got out of running in subzero temperatures today. This cold weather does at least give me an excuse to wear my hat; apart from its lovely purpliciousness, it also keeps my earphones in and stops my hair from turning into its normal post-run frizz.

Well done on your run, Jelli. Must admit I'm a little Confused by you knocking 30 sec per min off your pace - does this mean you ran twice as fast? My brain seems to have switched off for the day even earlier than usual.

Now have just under two hours to decide whether to bid on any of the following OPI polishes on eBay: Russian Navy, Chick Flick Cherry, Flashbulb Fuchsia, Bling Dynasty, Light my Sapphire, Sahara Sapphire, Curry Up Don't Be Late. All used once and all currently at ?1 or ?1.50. It doesn't help that there aren't any pictures, my OPI app has managed to uninstall itself and I haven't got time to look them all up on the website (although obviously I would look up any before bidding on them). Russian Navy is in the set of mini polishes I'm considering buying so probably not that one - I do like the colour, though.

brighthair · 30/11/2011 16:19

My models own beetlejuice set arrived today Grin
Nail painting then w2r2

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/11/2011 18:24

Well done Linzer. My purple hat had an outing at the weekend, but it hasn't been quite cold enough. I hope you solved the opi dilemma!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 30/11/2011 18:25

Sybil! I missed that you had come back! Lovely to see you!

NellVarnish · 30/11/2011 20:18

brighthair report back ASAP!

Linzer - OPI app? Shock I am currently sitting here with about ten pages of phones open trying to decided what to have. I've always been the lowest in the pecking order of phones in this house, and have the cheapest most basic PAYG, but feel it is time to update so I can put C25k on it, and get into the 21st century. What shall I have?

Blackcurrant

or

iPhone?

You never know, I might even be persuaded to go on FB next. Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 30/11/2011 20:27

You can have OPI for Facebook Nelly......

brighthair · 30/11/2011 20:45

Nellvarnish - um well both running and nails were er "interrupted" by a visitor. I now have smudged nails and have not run. However I have fitted in some
horizontal exercise Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/11/2011 21:30

Iphone, Iphone, Iphone! Nell - I thought it was you that told us about the OPI app a few months ago, maybe it was Shredded.

Linzer - what did you go for?

Brighthair - LOL at horizontal jogging!

No time to run today, this week is manic, oh dear.

JelliBelli · 30/11/2011 21:49

Grin at Linzer! You are absolutely right to be Confused . I meant I knocked 30 sec/mile off my pace - a little more acheivable!! I would have like to have run at double speed though - I would be finished in next to no time.

What did you buy on ebay?

Grin at Brighthair's horizontal exercise!

brighthair · 30/11/2011 21:55

Well it's got to count for some exercise surely?! Grin
Have repainted nails Angry in the purple blue beetle juice. Do thinner coats and it seems nicer but taking bloody ages to dry

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 30/11/2011 22:39

You need a fast drying top coat Brighthair, miracle stuff. I use a Sally Hansen one, by the time you've done the 10th nail the first one is touch dry.
