Good luck in San Fran moshi - loved your pics on FB of the marathon !

rhet - Sorry you're having a bad week, good luck with the forthcoming visits. I'd go with what your DP thinks about the run (but peach's reaction might offer good insight !).

peach -sorry dd is having a tough time. It might be some of the other kids have been in childcare up till now so have had to do more for themselves (disclaimer: not a point against childcare). And at least she's lovely with the other kids (so she'll be able to get them to do things for her Grin). Hopefully just adjusting to all the change. Sorry about your Dad's wife too, fingers crossed (as lame as that sounds).

Well done to those who have been out in the grotty weather. DrNo - Did you go ? Perhaps you need some Irn Bru ?

Can't believe the shitgate flowing (ahem) through this thread... eek !

I have swam today. Swimming lesson tomorrow.

My race pack arrived today for GSR. Exciting/ Terrified/ and worrying about the logistics all at the same time. Also worried about what time I put on for DH and I as we seem to be in the fastest (not including elite) wave (but they don't say what they are timewise and I can't remember).

encyclogirl · 18/10/2011 22:30

Debi can you make me some flapjocks for dds school dance on Friday, I was planning on just going with flapjacks but I prefer the sound of yours. Why is flapjocks so funny? It's cracking me up!

Oh Rhet you sound completely overwhelmed you poor soul. 2.9 year olds are lucky they're cute. Seriously, my dc were full on at the that age. Plus v. pregnant dp, job crap and the imminent arrival of rellies. No wonder you're feeling rubbish. I'm hugging you too, sod the Mumnet rule on the matter.

peach I hope your stepmum is ok, what a worry for you all. Grim indeed :(

Good luck with the trip Moshi

Dr No did you go to running club in the end? I'm hoping to go back tomorrow after a full week away.

Squit-gate update. All quiet on the Western front today. Think I'm thru it. What are we like?

paws I can't believe your dh has felt the need to join us Grin Shits sans frontiers.

rhetorician · 18/10/2011 22:39

on the upside, you lot do make me laugh. peach your poor dad - I know this was a big worry for dd's grandma, as both of her parents died young from cancer, and now her husband has it to - but looks likely to make a good recovery, even if the treatment will be gruelling. I agree with you - there's no need to hurry them - some are keener to break free than others, and you just have to go with what you know is right for your child.

DP's lovely sister came for the afternoon and entertained DD; we made pizzas and then she washed up and everything - turned the day around, I must say.

I think it's the work thing that's really bugging me - I've been in the same job for a long time, and it requires uninterrupted time and energy that I simply don't have, and I am not willing to just stomp off and leave my DP and DD to get on with it. I just have to learn to live with the consequences of that decision, which is that I can't do my work to the standard that I think is required.

flapjocks very funny!

rhetorician · 18/10/2011 22:40

too even Blush

futurity · 18/10/2011 22:40

How many people on this thread have had shitsgate?! Do you think it is a MN record? I am also typing in protective bubble... I can't cope with that and kitchen hell !

N4NNY · 18/10/2011 22:41

I seem to have entered my next race this evening dispite after running it last year saying I'd never do it again. Oopps.

Plans are full steam ahead for parkrun Iceland getting very excited now

DrNortherner · 18/10/2011 23:00

rhet You are having a shitey old week, then visitors and you have to be hostess with the mostest then your Mother is coming? No wonder you are stressed woman. You've alot on your plate, take a break and be good to yourself I say.

wheely you can keep your ironbru, I hate the stuff Wink

moshi San Fran again this week hey? You must be exhausted with all this planning. To coin an SJP film 'I don't know how she does it....'

I did do running club. Twas windy, but great fun. If you can call Tempos fun....

And, I am pleased to announce that my injury seems to have fucked off gone. Thank the Lord. Finally.

Tonight I am going to bed with that lovely feeling in my legs that they have worked hard!

stickylittlefingers · 18/10/2011 23:09

hello [no visits from the poo fairy here please]

Lots to catch up on - what a lot of shit! Hope all affected get well soon (what a bummer! Sorry...)

Moshi amazed at your splits. Congrats on a marathon well completed. I aspire to your "off the rails" times. Hope SF travel goes to plan.

Strange loved your race report, and well done on the great time!

rhet glad to hear your scare was just that. A few more grey hairs... A lot of understanding for the crappiness of the total lack of work/life balance. It's shite, it really is. I certainly don't have any answers (if you find any, do pass them on to DP!!), but I do think you are the right side of the balance. Your daughters will grow up and need less constant supervision, and presumably then you can write the SuperBook and go stellar... Either that or all academics will be childless no-life-outside-the-academy types Confused - a grim prospect.

No race for me at the weekend, but I do have a lovely new pair of (cheap!) trail shoes, which I tried out this morning. They work! So now they don't look like new trail shoes any more. Lovely out this morning too.

sfxmum · 19/10/2011 08:08

Hello just a quick post to wish moshi a good journey and productive week
And rhet hang in there it has been a difficult week, life is about to change again from the (precarious) balance you all managed to achieve, you are allowed to have wobbles

Hope everyone else is ok shitty ends not withstanding

futurity · 19/10/2011 08:37

And so it starts...kitchen being ripped out! Lots of noise and banging much to the kids excitement. Not so good was me in manky dressing gown when the man turned up...classy!

ibbydibby · 19/10/2011 09:05

Thanks for sympathetic words re building work.

Futurity good luck with kitchen.

Moshi hope trip goes well.

Rhet hang on in there...

DrNo well one for going to running club last night, wind here was bitterly cold yesterday.

N4NNY your trip to Icelnad is this coming weekend isn't it? Had been thinking about that. (in a "wish I was going" sense!)

Having mini (well major) meltdown here as switched on PC and most of stuff not there. Fortunately after a bit of searching around located Word documents, but is going to prove harder to retrieve emails... [hhmm]. Fortunately though I work from home, much of work is on university server....it is just figuring out how to reconnect which is the problem.

Sitting here in running kit, planning to go out in a minute...getting waylaid by PC probs though.

N4NNY · 19/10/2011 09:40

ibby I go to Iceland on the 28th so weekend after next. I'm excited and can't wait but also want to wait because once I'm back I only have 4 days left with "my" boys before I leave been made redundant after almost 7 years :( sad days.

ibbydibby · 19/10/2011 09:48

N4NNY sorry about redundancy. Re Iceland, had got it into my head that it was start of half term rather than end of h/t. Sounds brilliant.

Think have resolve PC crisis, fingers crossed etc. Did System Restore. Everything seems to be as it was yesterday though has left me feeling a bit nervous.

DrNortherner · 19/10/2011 09:53

n4nny sorry to hear about the redundancy Sad I too was made redundant from a job I adored after 7 years service. It's not nice.

squix · 19/10/2011 16:15

Hello - lots to catch up on?..

Hope Moshi is doing well in San Francisco.

N4NNY ? sorry to hear about the redundancy, hope things work out for you

Peach - hope things are looking up for your Dad?s wife.
Good luck to all those with building work ? thankfully those days are behind me for the time being ? we did major works on our house 4- 5 years ago - I have only just recovered??it did coincide with having a dd in true grand designs fashion.

Hope all the toilet action has abated for now ? I think I missed it ? something to do with it not travelling to Scotland may be?

It?s got really cold here today - has the snow started yet for you backwardpossum? I put on my super warm running tights this morning with two layers on top and my wolly hat ? brrrrrrrrr

I?m now in the two-weeks-before-a-race-and-i-can-feel-every-niggle zone. My ankle now seems OK, my arm is still slightly stiff but OK and this morning I felt a twinge in one knee, a creaking in my shoulder and a clicking in my other knee.

peachsmuggler · 19/10/2011 16:20

N4NNY, really sorry about the redundancy, that really sucks. Do you have anything lined up? Hope the lovely trip to Iceland is a good distraction, it will be fab I'm sure.

DrNo, hurrah for injury-free running!

Futurity, good luck with the kitchen work, hope it's short!!!

Are you feeling any better today Rhet?

Had another rubbish nights sleep punctuated with two trips in to see DD "I need a wee wee!", and "I'm scared of the shadows in my room" and also by a Xmas musical bib going off (there's been a lot of that this week on this thread!) inside one of the vacuum packed bags. Queue DP and I frantically trying to un-vacuum pack them to find the bib before Rudolph the feckin Reindeer woke DD again. Grrrr. Been cleaning house to get ready for PILs arriving this eve, and on top of that am supposed to start massaging my perimeum. Really don't know if I can face it. After episiotemy with DD, it's like Viet-bloody-nam down there. Urrggghhh!

Tmi??? Wink

backwardpossom · 19/10/2011 16:42

Sorry about your redundancy, N4NNY xx

Pawsnclaws · 19/10/2011 19:26

Hi all! Just about to go on the Brighton ghost walk. Spoooooooky!!

peach I did perineal massage before having ds2. My perineum was just dandy. Unfortunately I tore up and out. Ouch.

fannybanjo · 19/10/2011 20:13

n4nny sorry to hear about your redundancy and hope you manage to find another job (if you haven't already).

rhet glad you sound brighter, whenever due date looms closer, everyone is bound to feel more stressed as a big change is about to happen. When are you starting running club?

futurity good luck with kitchen and want lots of photos.... I would kill to renovate ours, it is 15 years old and pine and looking very very tired. Our last house we renovated from bare brick (was Victorian) and I had my dream kitchen, was very hard to leave it behind. I even had one of those hot water tap thingies, was the dogs bollocks!

peach hope your dad and his wife are okay. Sad

Ladies, running chat is allowed back on the thread! Did easy 10k this morning, 52 mins. Chatting all the way around with my friend and was quite surprised when looked at Garmin, my fitness improved with my training, even after being so poorly last week, its the hills I tell you! Was so cold though, need to dig running gloves and nipple warmers out.

chrispackhamslovebunny · 19/10/2011 20:32

just nipping in to say hello....i joined our running club tonight and the very nice man who runs it ran with me for a 5k - he says if i keep it up i should be running 10k races by the spring - he will advise me on which one to go for first and he is thinking of one in April for me....so if its ok, i will nip back in for a quick Brew and race natters around that time! look out for me!

ttfn!

sfxmum · 19/10/2011 20:57

peach hoping for good news, people do cope but I hope he will not have to

futurity good luck with building work
ibbi sounds like an awful saga, sympathies

N4nny sorry about the redundancy, how are your prospects of new work? I hope you will be employed shortly although the separation after such a long stint must be difficult. best wishes

sorry if missed people

here I might go for the 5K option rather than the 10K will see how I feel on the day, for a number of reasons, we shall see.

DebiTheScot · 19/10/2011 21:09

I was just next door at a Pampered Chef party. I was meant to come home at 8.55 so dh could go to football. At 8.56 he knocked on the door to fetch me home! How embarassing [hblush]. I was in the middle of a glass of wine so I've brought it home with me and as soon as he's back I'm going back round there!

Wallace · 19/10/2011 21:19

Rejoining this thread after a looong break. I do recognise some names though.

Well done to Piff - I did the Aviemore 10k too :)

stickylittlefingers · 19/10/2011 21:31

lovely 9 miles off road in the new trainers today. Was really cold (pass the nipple warmers please fanny), but beautiful and sunny.

Am trying a new arm-technique. I've been having my arms/elbows quite high, but noticed a lot of the fast runners (especially the ones that look like fell-runners - is this right hatwoman if you're around?) keep their arms well down. I thought it might be better for keeping balanced, as well as perhaps better for the shoulders. We shall see...

stickylittlefingers · 19/10/2011 21:34

Debi that sounds like fun!

N4Nny I took redundancy just before Christmas last year (nice timing). Even when it's ostensibly voluntary (and it wasn't really, just least worst option) it really sucks. It must be horrible when you've been with a family for a long time. :( Do you have another job lined up?
