Evening all Smile

cest bloody good to see you again! We were wondering what had happened to you.Sounds like life is getting in the way of running as it sometimes does. Hope the kids are better?

N4nny your pics are amazing. It looks stunning over there. Will you go back?

futurity I can so relate to your running thoughts. How funny.

We did 2 min intervals at running club last night. Short ones are right up my street and I was clocking 6mm pace, albeit for only 2 mins but none the less! A few blokes got chicked again. I managed to sustain the same effort for all 10 intervals which I was delighted with.

Last night my thoughts were "overtake the one in front, it's only 2 mins, LFDT, No that is not a stitch, I am going to be sick, breathe, no I am not going to be sick, this is a long fucking 2 minutes...." Grin

But agree, the hardest part of a longer run is always for me the first few miles. I love it when thoughts are 'this feels great, I am enjoying this, I could run for miles like this'

The adidas thunder run reg is now open. We seriously need to think about logistics if we are to enter a team. Whaddya think?

futurity · 02/11/2011 18:42

runnerstipple lol lots at this....this is so me! "1 - 1.5 miles. I can run forever. God, I love running. Now, what speed would I need to run at to get a HM in less than 2.15? Can I lose half a stone before Christmas, and how much would that improve my speed?"

Yes..I think Cambridge should be full of LFDI's!

Thunder Run is tempting but not quite sure how I could get there and back without driving (would not feel safe driving home after no sleep!)

DrNortherner · 02/11/2011 18:59

Oh hadn't even thought of the not sleeping implications......

monkeywench · 02/11/2011 19:42

DrN I want to do it if you can get a team together!

cest - it's me (pnc) - I namechanged Wink. How exciting that you're moving - there are some great runs round there, you're really on the edge of some beautiful countryside. One of my regular runs is into Harpenden and back, and in fact I read your message sat having a leisurely coffee in Cafe Nero. I can be your Harpenden guide!! One of Harpenden's little known secrets is an organisation called SHAGS, which innocently advertised for new members in the local paper some years back - new members welcome, all equipment provided, a fun and friendly way to keep fit ..... SHAGS is the South Harpenden Allotment and Gardening Society! Apparently there were some red faces when someone pointed out that the wording of the advert was a bit unfortunate!

DrNortherner · 02/11/2011 19:44

I have spent many a night in Harpenden House!

rhetorician · 02/11/2011 19:46

ha ha Dr No peach and I will be experts at sleep deprivation by then...:o

cest great to see you mate, sorry that life is interfering with the things that really matter, e.g. running busy busy busy. DP due in 4 weeks and 3 days.

peach do you have names sorted yet? I just went and bought supplies (pan and cest you might be surprised at the list that a woman makes for her hospital bag) for DP's bag - but DD and I decided to buy her nice shower gel and shampoo (L'Occitane, get us) as let's face it, the only good thing about the experience is the baby.

DD has done sterling potty work today - I am very proud of her, and the leftover Halloween choc is coming in very handy.

I did 11.5km today - grey, dank, breezy - heart rate monitor is crocked, so kept leaping from 80 to 180 with nothing in between. Think I might have to buy a 110 with monitor for my future plans. But I felt good, and my easy pace was faster than of late. I've no ambitions for the race on Saturday - it's a hilly course, and my only aim is to run it all and get back in under 2 hours. Btw, many thanks to those of you who sponsored me - very much appreciated.

So if anyone thinks they might like a Garmin 205 - I've the instructions but not the box - please PM me and we can talk terms :o

Things are good in this house - it's just us and we are all doing fine - I need more work time, but that's having children for you. Too many guests! And we are thrilled not to be having anyone to stay for Christmas - my mother is in a slight sulk because I didn't object strenuously enough to her suggestion that she not come - but I'll go to her in the New Year when things settle down a bit.

I also have a new pair of shoes - ASICS cumulus (cheaper than Nimbus) but they come up narrow and I needed to return them - I usually take a 5 in asics, but these are 5.5, but they seem fine.

Sorry, v. long and dull post: but off to eat cauliflower dhal and drink a Cornish IPA. Yum.

rhetorician · 02/11/2011 19:47

ps do those of you with the 110 have the laydee version? I was a bit Shock when the guy in the outdoor store told me it came in pink - I'm a 45 year old lesbian for god's sake, what would I be doing with a pink sports watch? He was clearly sceptical about whether or not I would want the pink one Hmm.

DrNortherner · 02/11/2011 19:49

rhet how on earth did you get her to suggest not to come?! I fear my Mother will NEVER do this. I am dreaming about a CHristmas just me, dh and ds but don't think I have the balls......

DrNortherner · 02/11/2011 19:50

LOl Rhet. I have the 110 in the black 'mans' version because dh can use it too. Now you know I have a thing for pink running gear but even I draw the line at a pink running watch.....

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 02/11/2011 19:59

cest and paws we are practically neighbours too as I live in St albans. cest I am not sure about you running to get the train in st albans - it's busy enough and I always look at the harpendenites smug in their seats as the snorbians jostle for the last few remaining seats! Perhaps I should be doing it the other way - running to harpenden to get a seat!
I don't think harpenden has a running club, but I have been checking out the st albans striders club, they seem quite good.

rhetorician · 02/11/2011 20:19

dr No - tbh I think it's lots of things - I think the journey takes it out of her (but she did insist on coming overnight on the coach this time), she's not much of a one for sitting around in the house (which is inevitable with a pg DP and a small child) and, in her words, 'likes to spend time on her own with me' (which makes her sound about as pathological as she actually is)...plus the fact that she doesn't approve, plus the fact that not coming reinforces her victim/martyr complex (I am sure her friends are being regaled with tales of how terrible I am). But the point is we are spending Christmas together as a family for the first time since 1999!

ThatVikRinA22 · 02/11/2011 20:30

Rhet - that made me l.o.l! interesting as im looking for a garmin....saw one in pink!

i am coming on for a bit of a boast....because this is my 3rd week at running club and i did 5 miles tonight! 5 whole miles! legs a bit sore now i stopped but im quite pleased with my short fat hairy legs tonight!

im going to think about my thoughts while running....tonight was nice cos i ran with someone and just chatted all the way around and before i knew it - bingo! 5 miles! and i wore my new stuff which was lovely!

i will think about what i think about when alone and report back....next run should be friday! if i can move by them....

orangehead · 02/11/2011 20:42

Glad your appointment went ok ibby think you deserve Wine tonight after that.
Well done vicar on your 5 miles.
My ankle and groin abit sore again. I am acually thinking its my veins Blush as my vein on ankle bulging a bit. I was actually thinking the ache was familiar and now I remember it the same ache when pregnant and that was due to my veins. The last time I had this was about a month ago, think it maybe a new pmt symptom- great I seem to be collecting them Sad. Do you think compression tights might help?

rhetorician · 02/11/2011 20:49

orangehead - varicose veins can cause aching - I have a nascent one in my right leg (it's been there since my early 20s) and occasionally it aches a bit - it's better when I run, but I do think that the achilles problems I had a few years back (tight calf etc) were down to the slightly poorer blood supply in that leg

Loved the Iceland photos N4NNY v. jealous - looks totally ace. ibby I didn't get a place either - I figure that millions of people went in for it. Disappointed though.

sfxmum · 02/11/2011 20:58

hello

sticky PB hope are rather modest, just shave a couple of minutes off would be good

squix hope you are feeling better soon

wave to cest pesky real life stuff

ibby glad it has been sorted, will they be tested or is that it?

Peach I will be sure to tell him, he loves it when I tell this stuff to my imaginary friends Wink

DrN Fab effort on the intervals well done, it can only get easier now... sort of

monkeywench snigger Grin I think there was a government department a few year back that had a similar problem with an acronym

rhet sounds positive. well done to dd on the potty progress. PINK?! well you know my feeling on pink gear

Vicarina brag away well done you

orange is it varicose veins? perhaps best have them looked at, I know some people wear stocking to alleviate symptoms but not sure about it when it comes to running

still have some study to finish tonight, might even get to bed before 12
no running tomorrow for me

monkeywench · 02/11/2011 20:59

cherry have sent you a pm Wink.

I have the black garmin, no way was I having pink! Although I do have lots of pink running stuff. After I had ds3 I went through a strange phase of buying pink stuff, I think it was a reaction to being the only woman in the house (even the dog is a boy, we are truly House of Trouser) and I think I was trying to assert my femin fenimim femim girly side. DH has always said thank goodness we didn't have girls, I'm such a tomboy they would have been called Frank and Sid or similar.

Pan · 02/11/2011 21:04

gosh this thread moves as fast we do!
tomorrow night is first training on those long, inclined Glossop roads - one of those you orange saw the other day, prob. Intervals sounds a real buzz DrNo - blokes dodging out. Typical....Grin On my trail we run beside a horse track, and when in the mood do a 'man v. horse' session. We have yet to win.Grin

DrNortherner · 02/11/2011 21:06

vicarina this is the one place we can brag Grin Well done on your 5 miles.

DebiTheScot · 02/11/2011 21:08

This was just what I needed to read tonight I'm a 45 year old lesbian for god's sake, what would I be doing with a pink sports watch? Grin it made me properly laugh which is no mean feat after the foul mood ds1 put me in tonight when he was being very unlike him and being horrid and sooo rude at bedtime. I'm wondering if he's coming down with something (ds2 is fine after his weird sickness on Monday morning).

I briefly mentioned the thunder run to dh tonight but I also hadn't considered the travelling afterwards bit.

DebiTheScot · 02/11/2011 21:13

I also meant to say amazing photos N4nny, I sent you a friend request. And well done on your 5 miles vicar, if you could do it while talking you're obviously doing well. And sounds unpleasant ibby, I hope you haven't gone for a run.

Right now must do some work.

ibbydibby · 02/11/2011 21:19

Rhet I have "unisex" (I think) 110 - it's grey. I did not fancy the pink one either. Sorry you didn't get Olympic run place. Am still waiting the email...

Thanks for kind words and suggestions of Wine though have been lounging on settee and downing many cups of Brew all evening. Haven't had alcohol for 18 months or so - was never a huge drinker anyway, just the odd glass now and then. However was beginning to feel a bit rough after just the odd glass, so now don't drink at all. Bit sad really as there are times when I would love a glass - but hate the thought of suffering the next day.

Took DS1 to his band this afternoon, leaving DH to cook tea (usual arrangement). Headed for Waitrose, fo a much anticpated and needed cup of tea and cake - only to discover that cafe shut for refurbishment. Felt ridiculously disappointed, bought a crunchie, and sat in the car to eat it. Not quite the same thing though!

Well done vicar at running club.

DrNo am a bit interested in Thunder Run....

ibbydibby · 02/11/2011 21:24

sfxmum, they will be tested. Watched doctor putting them in sample jar and wished I hadn't. Feeling unusually exhausted tonight - just knackered really. Not sure if real or imagined.

Did ask if I could run tomorrow. and nurse said yes, but doctor said see how you feel as bleeding could go on for several days. DH away tomorrow night, so maybe not a good idea to go out. Hmm.

orangehead · 02/11/2011 21:24

Yes varicose veins I think sfx my mum has them very badly an so did her dad. When pregnant with ds2 had them bad in groin sort of area but not been too bad since. I also had a laproscopy (if thats how you spell it) a few years ago and they said I have them internally throughout my pelvic region. I seem to be ok when running but its in the evening after my run and just seems to be pmt time. I will be going to docotors in a month time if still no bfp as it will be a year Sad. So will see how I go and mention it then it still the same.
Glad the potty training going well Rhet

Wheelybug · 02/11/2011 21:27

Loving the whilst running thoughts ! I'm not really sure what i think about - much the same I think (definitely 'its nice to be away from the DCs Grin).

Great pics N4NNY - looks amazing. Thanks for sharing yours too Bumply.

Squix - I too am feeling sore throaty. But I thought I was coming down with a cold last week, headed it off and wonder if Sunday's efforts have bought it round again. It'll be that wind and spray !

I too need to start thinking about a half marathon plan futurity. Am thinking I'll do my own thing - 1 speed intervals (sometimes hills maybe ?), 1 tempo, 1 LSR and 1 short recovery run. But I'll have a look at a few plans and see as it would be comforting to follow a proper plan I think. How did you find smartcoach ? I had a quick look and a lot of the comments don't seem to think v. highly of it.

DrNo - Really a strong possibility for the Thunder Run. Must be a train from london to nearby and then cabs ? I think realistically a mixed team, thereby having 8 people would be more my scene as that means 3 x 10Ks maximum. I can possibly drag a couple of others in if required.

rhet - I have the unisex garmin 110. I'm not a fan of pink anyway (although do have a number of pink running tops) but it was £23 more on amazon. Good news on the potty work ! I am planning an attempt weekend after next (Fri-Sun).... Her pre-school keep telling me she keeps asking to go and almost makes it so I feel I ought to make an effort. Plus she gets terrible rashes from poos, plus we had to not go swimming one day on hols because we'd run out of swimming nappies. I think its time (gibbers in corner at thought).

Good to see you back cest - good luck with the move.

moshi - that Richmond Park run also looks a possibility (even nearer for me than kingston which is only about 10 mins away) although am put off by the thought of laps. I have only looked at it on my phone so will take a peruse on the computer. DH is keen to do whichever one I do too so need to grab-a-granny.

My aches from Sunday have pretty much gone except for a cramp in my left calf first thing in the morning when I first do stairs. Just a swimming lesson for me today - all on the back, yuk, and I was tired. No running this week I don't think. Body Balance tomorrow if cold comes to nothing.

Mostly this week I am dedicating myself to drinking red wine and stuffing my face. Recovery I call it.

orangehead · 02/11/2011 21:28

How rude of them ibby did they not realise you really needed tea and cake Smile
