Well I did my 10 (10.08 to be precise Grin) miles with my SIL and I did it 8 mins faster then when I did it alone Grin Not speedy, but averaged 9.2 m/m. Very pleased. I am realising that after longer runs it's a different tiredness to short fast runs. Bambi legs that then stiffen up......had a slight panic as my Garmin seemed to freeze up, but after pressing buttons frantically it worked again. I was horrified at the thought of running without my gadget. I am officially a running geek it seems Hmm

Quick question. I do my longer runs with lucozade sport. SIL turned up with Lucozade sport lite, when we compared calories hers was only 50, but mine was 585! How does the lite one work then. I felt a bit miffed. Garmin said we burnt 1005 calories but I took in half of that at SIL didn't. Any thoughts?

yeahthatstehbadger well done on getting back into it. Sounds like you are doing the right thing, pacing yourself but enjoying it. That's what it's all about!

MrsWEds it is indeed a windy day today. Warm yet windy. Was a great run, really enjoyed it! Wondering which company you work for.....where I work we use a digital marketing agency.....

driving No iphone here either. I have an HTC which is similar, but too big to run with. Glad I have my Garmin 110. Still not got to grips with the touch screen malarkey. I miss my phone with buttons.....

Happy running everyone Smile

drivingmisscrazy · 14/05/2011 16:53

went out for short easy run - and it felt good - not fast, but I've come to the conclusion that I just need to do a mile or so VERY slowly at the start of a run - so I'd say that the last 5k was probably reasonably fast for a training run. Confidence slightly restored, I am glad to say. Will do a 10 miler tomorrow and then just 2 easy before the race. Eek. This time next week I'll be finished (even in the very worst case scenario!!)

cestlavie · 14/05/2011 17:11

DrNo just checked one of my Lucozade sport bottles - thinks that's 585kj, only 140 cals! I always run with Lucozade Sport - I think in my head it's some sort of magic power drink...

MoshiMoshi · 14/05/2011 17:23

DrNo - I avoid the lite ones as it is the energy I need when running and it's the calories that provide the fuel in the firm of a glycogen boost. I imagine using the lite version would be less effective at fueling the longer runs. Perhaps if you were using the drink together with food such as jelly babies it might be as effective? Although this would only be relevant if you were calorie conscious and deliberately trying to lose weight as well as train. And that is not something you need to do missus by the looks of you with that teeny tiny waist in your FB photos! Grin

MoshiMoshi · 14/05/2011 17:25

Wondering how Iread has done today?

Good luck tomorrow, gold!!!! get your race kit ready now if you haven't already to avoid forgetting anything at the last minute.

DrNortherner · 14/05/2011 18:43

Blush cestlavie, you are indeed right. It is actually only 140 calories. I don't feel so bad now and will stick to full fat lucozade sport. Like you I now think it is magical and I would not survive without it.....lol at me thinking it was 585 calories

moshi I agree, Lucozade lite sounds wrong really, and of course, if you are using it for energy then calories is what wee need.

Gold good luck for tomorrow!

I actually feel knackered after my run today. Don't think I hydrated properly afterwards and only ate toast with peanut butter when I got home. Saving myself for Chinese takeaway for dinner!

peachsmuggler · 14/05/2011 20:57

I think Gold pulled out of her race didn't she, I think?

DebiTheScot · 14/05/2011 21:57

Lucozade light seems a bit pointless! Saying that I only run with water (only do 40-45 min runs generally) but in my tri I did have half a sachet of energy powder in my water bottle on the bike. I tried a full sachet when training but it made me feel sick. I also tried one of those gels but that was horrible.

I hadn't realised that runkeeper is dodgy with distances. I had noticed that it doesn't match with my bike speedo but put that down to being calibrated slightly wrong and wiggling in the road!

MrsWednesday · 14/05/2011 22:16

Thanks so much for the sponsorship and the motivational words Moshi and sfxmum Smile

I got a bit nervous about permanently having my real name linked to my posting name on here (god knows why, I only ever talk about running and food) so I've removed the post with the link now.

Iread, hope the race went well, looking forward to the race report.

Bit heavy-legged on my run today but it was so invigorating being out - was a bit grumpy before I left as me and the DSs had wasted the morning waiting in vain for the BT man to turn up, so it was just what I needed.

DrNo, is your agency in Leeds?

peachsmuggler · 14/05/2011 22:32

Oh no! MrsWeds, I haven't sponsored you yet! Could you PM me the link to your page please?

drivingmisscrazy · 14/05/2011 22:36

I haven't either MrsWeds - was going to just now...ditto

OP posts:
squix · 14/05/2011 22:49

Iread - hope the race went well - any top tips for those of us racing over the next few weeks? (when I say racing - I mean a timed run with lots of other people there!)

MrsWednesday - I am feeling heavy legged too - did just 4 miles today and every time I pushed to go a bit faster I really struggled.

Chewytoffee - I meant to ask earlier about the chi principles - sounds interesting - what's it all about?

Hope everyone has a good weekend running or resting.

drivingmisscrazy · 14/05/2011 22:59

oh crap, just looked at the list, and I think that gold did pull out (on our Hmm advice) because of injury, so that means that I am up next for the timed running with other people there malarky!

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 15/05/2011 10:11

Yes Mrs Weds our agency is in Leeds. Begins with a U.....

Lol driving at this timed running with other people there malarkey Grin

I have to endure 4 hours at a football tournament today REst day for me.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday Smile

drivingmisscrazy · 15/05/2011 11:16

DrNo just stealing squix's line :o (also, were you on the one-child families thread when I was lurked there, thinking that DD was going to be an only - suppose she could still be suppresses thought) just did 19.5km good and easy - enjoyed it despite the cold and wind and rain (sun shone for the last 3 minutes!). Not sure how the half next Saturday will pan out, but at least I will be able to finish.

Off for some pancakes now, much to DD's evident delight

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 15/05/2011 16:49

Yep, that'll be me on the only child thread driving Smile

Emailed my 10 mile Garmin stats to BIL yesterday, he has run loads of marathons, did London in 3.23 so he is god, and he reckons the pace I did my 10 miles in yesterday would give me a half marathon time of 2.04......so he is predicting I get a sub 2 hour time......pressure is on Grin

DrNortherner · 15/05/2011 16:50

He is good, not God Grin

TheChewyToffeeMum · 15/05/2011 16:53

squix the chi running is something I have read about on the Runner's world forums. There is a book but I just looked for YouTube videos - it is basically about using your posture to increase your efficiency. Effectively I am concentrating on shortening my stride and increasing my cadence. It seems to be along the same lines as a lot of the barefoot running theories but without needing new shoes :o

Having said all that I am feeling totally wiped out today after doing only a 5 mile treadmill run yesterday. Like many on here I have been in denial about having a cold this week and it has caught up with me today.

DrNortherner · 15/05/2011 16:55

This woman is running 42 marathons in 6 weeks...

drivingmisscrazy · 15/05/2011 17:05

as they say around here: fair play to her...

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 15/05/2011 18:59

mrsW - PM me with your page too, I hadn't got round to sponsoring you either.

Iread - I hope you got on well this weekend.

Back from our weekend of bearable Am Dram. No running still feeling a bit under the weather although suspect it may be the antibiotics. Planning to get back to it in the gym on Tuesday even if a shorter run than usual.

No iphone here although have an HTC so much the same. Although its almost 2 years old so I am dithering over upgrade. Am thinking of going iphone although it works out a bit more expensive but all our music is on itunes and I will have to run with my phone come Sept so think, as I haven't got round to replacing my ipod, I may as well go for an Iphone and replace the two things with one. But am going to wait for my contract to end so I could go to a new network if I can get it cheaper. Anyway, that's a bit dull.

On the lucozade thing - I do sometimes drink the lite one after a long run. I am calorie conscious but assume it has other stuff in to help hydrate me compared to water and I'm not very good at staying hydrated. Or maybe I'm just believing marketing hype......

IreadthereforeIam · 15/05/2011 19:05

Hi! Well, I made it!! 2 hours 17 minutes! I'm ecstatic with that (easily pleased, thankfully!!). To top it all, I only walked once - up a particularly horrible little hill (a loooong one!) somewhere between 10 -11 miles, I think. And I had enough left for what could have passed as a sprint finish (in my mind Wink). The weather was pretty awful - it drizzled/ rained for the whole time. I suppose it was a good thing in the respect that there was no danger of getting over-heated!

So all in all, a good race for my first Half!!! My running partner is trying to talk me into a Marathon, but I think that would be really rather daft of me (bad back and I don't think I can afford taking out shares in my Osteopath's business Hmm).

I need to sit down (for at least a week - my buttocks are killing me Blush) and have a think about what I'm going to do next. Another Half perhaps, or a 10K - I'm DEFINITELY NOT doing a Marathon!! There, you have it in writing!

drivingmisscrazy · 15/05/2011 19:11

Iread fabulous - it is such a thrill, isn't it? I'm hoping for a similar time, but suspect it will be slower because of the course. I'm with you on the 'No Marathon Pact'. Well done!!

OP posts:
sfxmum · 15/05/2011 19:11

well done Iread that is a pretty good time in my books

regarding sports drinks I am not very keen on them but use them on occasion
it bridges a gap but I rather have a protein shake after a run, when fast hydration is not the priority
my 5 miles went ok but knee still bothering me

I must find a 10k before the end of summer just so I have a goal
I think there is one at Bushy Park that would be near me, slightly tempted by the London one but imagine there will be thousands of runners and I don't like crowds much

happy running all

sfxmum · 15/05/2011 19:14

also does everyone find that carrying extra weight slows you down? doesn't seem to be just aerobic fitness, since the start of the year I have put on about lbs10 and I feel it, not just in the jeans that don't fit Blush
