That good to hear Moshi, you must all be feeling a lot more positive. Hope your mum is bearing up well. Suggest you have a large glass of wine and some lardy pudding tonight!

cestlavie · 13/05/2011 17:45

Hoorah Moshi! Glad you had positive news - as someone else said, doctors tend not to be optimistic unless they really do think that something can be done. Good news going into the weekend.

sfxmum · 13/05/2011 18:15

moshi very good news indeed I am very pleased for all of you

next running day for me is Sunday off to gig tonight hurrah

happy running

pawsnclaws · 13/05/2011 18:27

Ooh who are you seeing sfx?

driving I really rely on Daynurse capules when ill, so if I was ever sickly while pregnant I was cursing. Hot lemon and honey is lovely and soothing, but I don't think it takes any of the symptoms away (especially if you forego the traditional glug of brandy with it too .....).

Wheelybug · 13/05/2011 18:30

Good news moshi - v. pleased for you. When will the op take place ?

LOL Sciencebint at your very scientific question - yes, I can still eat ice cream so think will escape hospitalisation. Feeling much better just tired now.

Hope everyone has a good weekend - we're away to see DH's cousin's am dram production which are usually so bad, they're funny Hmm.

squix · 13/05/2011 19:06

Moshi so glad you've had some positive news.

Also happy to hear about the positive scans.

I've had a mega busy week, so just now getting a chance to catch up. Only been able to get out for 1 run and that was quick 4 miles at 6am one day. All my plans for a structured taper out the window. Will get a run on saturday and Sunday then I am away with work for 3 days during the week - not too busy whilst away so should get a few easy runs in then.

cestlavie I've just finished 'Feet in the Clouds' - I haven't worked out if it is inspirational or obsessive. About 1/2 way through I realised that I used to work with someone he talks about a lot. I vaguely remember that someone once mentioned that he ran a lot but I never knew just how much.
I've also recently read a book called 'why we run' can't remember who it's by but it was interesting - he was training for the Spartathlon in Greece.

driving I can't remember running without my Garmin now, I got put off this week when it couldn't find a satellite and couldn't tell me my speed or distance.

DebiTheScot · 13/05/2011 20:32

I run with my iphone and the runkeeper app. Apart from sometimes losing a signal it's pretty good. And Mrs Runkeeper tells me the time every mile.
I went for a cycle this afternoon (had an unexpected child and work free hour) and had it in my bag and was very greatful for it when I didn't really know where I was and got to the canal and had no idea whether to go left or right!

drivingmisscrazy · 13/05/2011 20:39

debi I am the only person in the British Isles who doesn't have an i-phone...

OP posts:
TheChewyToffeeMum · 13/05/2011 20:58

I don't have one either driving!

I wish I did though - was geocaching with the kids and could really have done with being able to access the website to look for clues.

Just back from a 3 mile easy run. I have been dabbling with trying to improve my form according to 'chi running' principles. Feels good but makes me go quite a bit faster! I am also feeling a bit tight around my Achilles'.

moshi that sounds encouraging news.

YeahThatsTheBadger · 13/05/2011 21:14

So pleased it was such positive news moshi. Hope the operation is soon and it can all be a distant memory for you and your family.

Hi sciencebint. No, DH doesn't run, although reading my last post I think it sounds like he does. He once complained that he needed to do more exercise so he came running with me. After (a slow)100metres he stopped, was bent double saying "you go on without me". Never again! He drums in a band and that's quite an energetic activity, so he's happy with that.

driving I too don't have an iphone. I'm such a short arse that I need to buy kids jeans/trousers and it wouldn't fit in the pockets Smile

I couldn't go for a run yesterday, but went out today while DS was at nursery and DD was sleeping. My normal route has couple of steep hills but carried on running when I would normally head for home and it was a lot flatter, and I found I could run so much further and I added another mile to my run. Obvious, I know!! But I'm glad I did the extra. Really enjoying this running malarky!

ok, so loads of people don't have iphones then; everyone I know except for me and DP has one...but seeing as the only people we ever call/text are each other, there doesn't seem much point!

badger sounds like it's going well!

OP posts:
DebiTheScot · 13/05/2011 21:47

My dh still has a phone with buttons Shock

Glad to hear you got good news moshi

MoshiMoshi · 13/05/2011 22:22

Surgery followed by a week in hospital and a few months' recovery at home. Thank you for the well wishes everyone. Oh and I too have an iphone! Grin

squix · 13/05/2011 22:32

Moshi - hoping it all goes well.

I have an iPhone but find it too heavy /awkward to run with. I take an old, light phone that just calls and txts (and has buttons) with me, particularly if I am going off road or for a long run.

bonkers20 · 13/05/2011 22:40

Bla, haven't been on here for ages and there are SO many new posts. I need to go to bed (so much for the early night).
I hope everything goes well for your dear Mum Moshi.
I don't have an iPhone.
I haven't been running for a week. What a slacker! I'll try to get out on Sunday, but my hoped for lift share for DS's Scout thingy whatnot hasn't come into fruition so I'll be juggling that and little DS. DH working tomorrow.

Time, time, time.

drivingmisscrazy · 13/05/2011 22:47

if only I could run as fast as the thread moves, I'd be laughing...

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/05/2011 00:33

debi I downloaded the runkeeper app as it had good reviews but am yet to use it, apparently you can play with settings and gets you time and stuff at different intervals as you wish iyswim

paws Sufjan Stevens, I am so glad to have reliable babysitting these days

MoshiMoshi · 14/05/2011 07:51

Word of warning: I found the RunKeeper App understated distance so I was actually faster than it suggested. It was very demoralising gearing the man tell me how slow I was running when I was, in fact, going much faster.

robino · 14/05/2011 08:08

Oh help! I've been namechecked - hi paws!

Erm, no, not much running going on. After last Saturday's run where I managed a mighty 2 miles and felt great, Sunday was a disaster. Ate before I went and legs just wouldn't do their thing. Feel a bit despondent really; this trying to get back into running thing with DH only here on Sat and Sun and trying to fit it inbetween feeding v hungry DD3 is tricky. On the upside, DD3 is 12 wks today so we should be heading towards calmer territory and DH's contract in Devon is nearly up (we're either facing unemployment Shock, work wherever he can get it again Shock or hopefully a contract nearer to home) so I might get a bit more in. I suppose I'm going to have to treat my Saturday run as my "long run" and take it easy on a Sunday.

The atmosphere on this thread is lovely; moshi and hat add my wishes onto the ever-growing list.

debi and badger - I'm new too and frankly quite terrified of these superior runners hoping the commitment to running on this thread will kick my arse into gear. Badger - how are you finding getting back into it after a break?

DrNortherner · 14/05/2011 09:28

Hi guys, just a quick pop in from me.

Moshi encouraging news about your Mum. How are you coping and how is your Mum?

Glad the thread scans are going well for the running bambinos!

Just ordered feet in the clouds so I can read it too. Off at 10.30am for a 10 mile run with my SIL and our dogs. Went out for dinner last night and abstained from alcohol as it will affect me on my run. My mates think I am barking.....Grin

drivingmisscrazy · 14/05/2011 09:34

sfxmum was Sufjan good? DP and I having a rare outing to see him on Tues (she says that we only go to gigs when she is up the duff..sadly this seems to be true)

I feel better today, so will venture out for a short one - just talked to my mum who said well if it's too much, don't do it? Hmm don't think she gets the running thing...

OP posts:
sfxmum · 14/05/2011 09:43

moshi thanks for warning I will keep that in mind

driving I though it was a wild riot, lots of fun, just don't expect too much of the earlier stuff, although it was there here for spoilers review

so last night I tripped and fell and obviously went down on my bad knee, it was a soft fall but it is sore this morning, and as added bonus the back of my foot just above the heel is stinging Hmm

YeahThatsTheBadger · 14/05/2011 09:47

Hi robino. I think i'm doing ok despite the large break but i'm still doing intervals and I think that's the key for me. Normally I would have just run and run, then paid the price. Think i'll be doing this for another few weeks at least before I take the plunge and actually run non-stop! Have you had much of a break? Don't think I would have even contemplated running when either dc was 12weeks so you are doing amazingly well!

I mapped my run last night and i've been running 3miles on the shorter route and 4 on the longer. Nowhere near cestlavie's and moshi's 11 and 13 mile effort! Smile but an achievement for me as I didn't really feel them and could do a bit more. But pacing myself has worked so far and i'll keep going with that.

MrsWednesday · 14/05/2011 10:46

No iPhone here either (and I work in a digital marketing agency so my old Nokia is not good for my professional credibility!)

Moshi, so pleased that the news was positive and that your mum has a defined plan of action ahead.

Doyou, thanks so much for the sponsorship, much appreciated.

Herecomes 8.52m/m is pretty impressive on a hilly route! I dream of running under 9 m/m - my long distance training has killed any speed I might have had (and I didn't have much before)

Going out for a steady 10 miles later - will then do a 5 mile on Tuesday and that will be it until race day.

sfxmum, hope the knee pain is just a bruise and the heel pain is nothing serious.

DrNo, my mates thought the same on the hen do - it is most unlike me to be so abstemious Smile Enjoy your 10 miles, lovely breezy day for running in Yorkshire today!

Badger, Debi, Robino we are all runners - it doesn't matter how far and how fast you go, it's the fact you get out there at all Grin

Happy weekend running.x
