That woe is me resignation letter is absolutely unbelievable. A Kangaroo court?! And then singling out Harriet Harman and Sue Gray for the Brexit extremists to harass or worse.

How dare he speak that way about a Parliamentary committee?! Firstly he said he would work with them and he would welcome their findings and secondly it’s got a Tory majority (including Brexiteers!) on that committee. There just isn’t some kind of sinister Remain conspiracy against him.

It’s outrageous that he’s managed to get his resignation letter in first before the report came out, so he can have an unchallenged platform without us knowing the truth to paint himself as some kind of martyr.

Typical that Johnson’s not even in the country today so he can’t even be questioned on his outrageous assertions. I’m not a Tory but I do find it shocking that a former PM could write this kind of unevidenced letter and throw his party colleagues under the bus.

He’s always been completely unfit for office. I really hope that he loses credibility permanently from all this. But I do fear him coming back because his ego will be bruised and he’ll be desperate to rehabilitate himself again, to show everyone he’s still got it or whatever.

May as well have a general election now.

I'm old enough to remember the rumours that Team Boris were going to bring down Rish! by voting against the Saxe-Coburg agreement.

It would be a shame if all the people who said they would resign if Boris did turned out to be lying.

DuncinToffee · 11/06/2023 18:06

I am even older then to remember when Johnson was flying back to stand against Sunak in the leadership race

quiteathome · 11/06/2023 18:34

I will catch up with the news tomorrow after going to work in our very creaky NHS for the day.

quiteathome · 11/06/2023 18:35

It will be interesting to see who resigns

Ah, yes. And several MPs who had stuck their necks out to back him were shat on from a great height.

But not so many post ago LouiseCollins was claiming that Eurostar stopping the Disney services was a Brexit win! I assume she doesn't live in Ashford.

From the Covid-19 Inquiry

How did Brexit affect pandemic response, lawyer asks

Keith mentions how the pandemic happened shortly after the UK left the EU.

It is clear, he says, that Brexit planning from 2018 "crowded out and prevented, some, or perhaps a majority of improvements" that were needed for emergency planning and preparedness.

Did this drain the resources and capacity "that should have been utilised in preparing the United Kingdom for civil emergency", he asks.

I see Fox is angling to stand in Uxbridge.

And there it is for Louise et al crowing about how Brexshit has allowed wages to rise...

It's not as if their arguments were researched or cogent anyway.

Just who the hell is Charlotte Owen? What the hell has she done to warrant being made a baroness / life peer aged 29?? Apart from looking suspiciously similar to other women in Johnson’s history. Making an utter mockery of the honours list! But the bigger question is why wasn’t this bit of nepotism squashed by Sunak? FGS…

Johnson's silly nonsense of elevating cronies to the Lords might of course have hastened the reform of the House. So a good few of these might find themselves booted out, or say restricted to a ten year term. Whatever is decided.

DowningStreetParty · 17/06/2023 07:50

I was so relieved and heartened to see the media reporting the debasement of the PM role and Parliament and would love to think he wouldn’t get a Parliamentary pass after all he’s known to have done, access to power and gossip is what he wants. I thought the Tories would realise, as they seem to need to be reminded once every generation, that corruption and sleaze doesn’t pay.
Except now he’s a Daily Mail columnist I am really worried he’ll build himself a powerbase again.

DowningStreetParty · 17/06/2023 08:22

‘The former governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has put the high inflation inflation rates down to Brexit, saying it had triggered a "unique" adjustment that could take years to unwind.
He told the Daily Telegraph that he had "laid out in advance" his concerns about the UK leaving the EU, which would lead to "a weaker pound, higher inflation and weaker growth."’

Very depressing reading this article, so many of us are struggling to cope financially already and future looks so much worse for so many more. Brexit has been ruinous in every sense.

Yet Johnson whose last minute joining the Leave campaign (not on principle but so as to unseat David Cameron and have a shot as PM) imho legitimised more people to vote for Brexit against the Remain Tory campaign because they liked the Johnson brand… and now Johnson will carry on tub thumping for it all in his latest print media job for the Daily Mail.

He will keep up the falsehood that if only done properly, then all would be wonderful in the post Brexit world. Hmm

Carney quote above is from no-paywall BBC article: Mortgages to go up by average of £2,900 a year for 800,000, says Resolution Foundation
