It is probably because we are having a heatwave. That is why it is all going wrong.

Everything melts in the heat.

Must be

We can take comfort that Johnson the convict is enjoying himself with another holiday in Greece. Comparisons to Nero fiddling? Whilst England burns.. literally.

That's what I told ds1 it feels like to me atm

Everyone in power just fiddling whilst Rome burns 🔥 😒

But not just the politicians.

The local pubs and restaurants here are crowded. The silly little boutique type shops (that basically sell the same stuff..) are busy

The local (extortionately priced) Deli is busy

🤷‍♀️

I think people are just trying to enjoy life whilst they can and not think too much about the coming winter...the inevitable covid and flu spike, energy prices, food prices, and Liz fucking Truss as PM (yes, its actually giving me nightmares)

prettybird · 14/08/2022 22:11

Mea culpa Blush

I should have included, "....but Corbyn" in my list of ...but.... excuses Wink

DrBlackbird · 14/08/2022 22:17

Ironic innit that Johnson refused to step immediately down from office because he still had work play to do. Obvs his own concept of ‘work’…. He’s got to be the laziest ass PM in history.

Reading The Graun, yes, still, and see that we’re going to be saddled with the most inappropriate, vested interests (hint: not in the public interest) appointees from Johnson before he lumbers out of No 10.

www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/gove-stuck-in-30-hour-delay-caused-by-brexit-related-travel-chaos-332243

Michael Gove has found himself stuck in Brexit-related travel chaos at an airport in Athens.

Twitter user Candida Jones shared a picture of the prominent Brexiteer in the queue at the airport, revealing that the EasyJet flight he was on had been
delayed by “almost 30 hours.”

www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/08/15/boris-johnson-brexit-legacy/

For the true believers, there’s a sense that the full benefits of Brexit haven’t arrived because, in their minds, Brexit hasn’t fully happened. The promise of a better Brexit remains just over the horizon.

The skeptics, with many economists among them, say the harm of Brexit is only starting to be felt.

Presumably that's Washington Post journalists banned under the new JRM edict.

Through gritted teeth I imagine

A Brexiteer Tory MP on Monday admitted immigration has increased since Britain voted to leave the EU.

Why through gritted teeth ? After all Brexit had nothing to do with immigration. I know coz Breixteers said so.

I look forward to the industrial scale gaslighting that is going to be needed to convince the country that immigration hasn't risen anyway. Although the latest spin I heard only yesterday in a hospital was that the increased immigration is the fault of the EU nationals for leaving the UK and therefore creating the vacuum that is pulling in. Apparently they are "stupid" for misunderstanding Brexit and it's them that are losing out as the UK looks set to top the G7.

And that was a general ward ....

DuncinToffee · 15/08/2022 17:44

If I remember correctly, there was a poster on here who wanted this new immigration system where EU citizens didn't have an advantage over non EU citizens. But they were a minority

At which point are we allowed to call these people thick without being castigated for it? Asking for a friend...

When they can't give you an objective metric for the success of Brexit ?

pointythings · 15/08/2022 20:55

@SerendipityJane immediately then. Nice one!

More sun lit uplands of Brexit

As much as £60m of food has been wasted on farms because of a labour shortage, according to the National Farmers’ Union, which found at least £22m of fruit and vegetables had been wasted so far this year

The NFU said 40% of respondents to a survey of its members said they had suffered crop losses as a result of labour shortages, with farms 14% short of the size of the workforce they needed on average. The problems were worsened by some staff not turning up for work or quitting early

wonder if those not turning up or quitting early are Brits?

You underestimate the capacity of Brexiteers to blame everyone but themselves. I though it was becoming clear last year that there was already a chorus of "if only we'd known" building in an attempt to gaslight the county. In the same way you will never find any metric going forwrads by which a Brexiteer can declare Brexit a trainwreck, going backwards you'll never get them to admit there were any warnings at all.

My late DM had a saying about there being none so blind as those that won't see.

Bluster. No Tory PM could allow this anywhere near a court of transparency.

The only question is what on earth "the UK" thinks it has to lever this out of court. Maybe we threatened to ban exports of Cadburys ?

You couldn't make it up!

What happened to "we knew what we were voting for"?

borntobequiet · 17/08/2022 08:10

Didn’t the fact that we wouldn’t sign up to Euratom actually get quite a lot of media coverage?
