Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

A pint of Brexit champagne with orange juice is call a Fucks Biz.

DoctorTwo · 24/12/2021 22:24

Well isn't that a happy Christmas DGR, blimey. Good luck with the job hunting.

Thank you DuncinToffee and PointyThings, I have posted elsewhere that it feels like I got hit by a bus. I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.

Have as good a Christmas as you are able everyone, I have a feeling good ones will become rarer once the new rules kick in, until at least the useless arseholes in charge cave in completely. Which, let's face it, they're bound to do.

Thank you all the sanity on this thread, I live currently in a Brexity area and get evil looks for blaming the Brexit wankers for anything, with the exception of a woman who runs a cafe in my town centre who happens to have been born in the Netherlands but has lived here for over 30 years.

BREAKING: Three ghosts are understood to have visited Downing Street to have a word with Boris Johnson, but upon arrival were terrorised by a 19th century spectre called Jacob Rees-Mogg into believing the true meaning of Christmas is the merciless exploitation of the working poor

Peregrina · 24/12/2021 23:15

Fancy that: Priti Patel is introducing a visa scheme for care workers. Note how the amount they need to earn is more than the minimum wage will be next year. I wonder if this will produce the desired results? Will it be like the butchers and lorry drivers - announced with great fanfare but with only a modest take up?

Why aren't the Leave voters rushing forward to take these jobs? Not that you would want just anyone to be a carer - the job is much more demanding than many realise.

Peregrina · 24/12/2021 23:23

Also I recommend that you read both The Guardian and the BBC's take on this issue. The BBC quotes one body as saying "many issues with the sector predated Brexit, and "underfunding" was "the underlying cause" of difficulties." Undoubtedly true, but if you are already struggling, why bring in rules which make matters worse?

They could also say that Privatisation of the Care sector is an underlying cause, but they don't.

DGRossetti · 25/12/2021 10:06

Why aren't the Leave voters rushing forward to take these jobs?

Would you want to be cared for by a dim racist ?

Merry Christmas to all you sane wonderful people 🎄🎄🎄

It’s a omicron-cancelled Christmas for us as DC tested positive yesterday. My Scrooge-like wish is for Johnson and his entire cabinet to become really sick with Covid and then it might sink in to bloody JRM to listen to expert knowledge instead of the people. Bah humbug. Xmas Smile

Lonelycrab · 25/12/2021 10:25

Merry Christmas to all on these threads, the regular posters and the lurkers and semi lurkers like myself. Also raising a glass Wineto all the posters from the past, RTB, BCF, Leclerc, LQ, Jasjas and so many others my slightly hungover brain can’t think of right now. Thanks all for this little oasis of sanity Xmas Smile

GaspodeWonderCat · 25/12/2021 11:43

I will drink to that Lonelycrab - best wishes to all.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 25/12/2021 13:14

Commiserations, DrB.

Hear hear, Lonely.

Hope you feel better soon, Doctor.

Must admit this thought did cross my mind as well. Ds tested positive last week, so we cancelled dd her Dh & dgds coming yesterday & today but was hoping too see them this morning at dd’s house for a couple of hours but I tested positive this morning☹️ It been a sodding logistic nightmare ferrying back presents & half of the Christmas dinner, feeling fed up is an understatement but grateful have had jabs & booster as currently no symptoms. Hope whatever you are all doing, you are all ok 🎄x

@dontcallmelen

Flowers not as lovely as the ones I enjoy in your pics but heartfelt all the same!

Keep on keeping on asymptomatic Xmas Smile

Happy Christmas to all those on this thread.

I see that the James Webb Space Telescope has been sent out to scour time and space for the elusive "Brexit Benefit"...

AuldAlliance · 25/12/2021 17:21

Happy Christmas to all on here.
Sorry to hear your news, DGR, and about the omicron havoc.

Drove from Provence to Germany, spent a nice week sleeping, reading, eating, laughing and walking, then drove back today...about to flop for the evening.

Keep safe, keep sane, keep hopeful, all of you.

DoctorTwo · 25/12/2021 19:14

I feel ok now, thanks ICouldHave, it's a sign my immune system is working apparently. I'd hate to catch it now, especially as I have avoided most people since 23/1/2020 and not caught it then.

DrBlackbird · 26/12/2021 12:42

Papers full of when Johnson must go, not if he should go as Labour finally firmly in poll lead.

Love how some newspapers now saying any replacement must come from outside his sullied cabinet poor Truss, Sunak, Patel, is this why Frostie hotfooted it out of there and several sources naming Sir Graham Brady as his replacement (so helpful for SGB to have journalist mates).

Sir Graham firmly opposed to any further Covid restrictions and allegedly quoted as saying "we must take back control over own lives".

This 3 word slogan has endless potential and I look forward to seeing it applied everywhere. It’s a get out jail free card for the Tories on everything from Covid deaths to 2nd jobs to NI to borders. But does that mean we too can ‘take back control’ over our own lives by, for example, no longer paying taxes?

How do we turn this to our individual advantage? What else can we all take back control over??

DrBlackbird · 26/12/2021 14:11

One last item to share…

Worst customer service award goes to… The Department for Work and Pensions misunderstood its own rules and penalised a universal credit claimant for not applying while in an induced coma.

Is this what our civil servants have been reduced to by their current ’hostile environment to all scroungers including refugees, the ill and the poor’ masters?

Tell you what DGR, there’s an IT job desperately needed to correct all the biased despicable govt algorithms!

Opal8 · 27/12/2021 12:21

Well, it's officially chrimbo limbo 🎄

That weird week where I never know what day it is or what I'm supposed to be doing 🤣

Had a nice chilled Christmas - I hope you all had the same.

Sorry to hear about the job @DGRossetti
Hope you're feeling better @drtwo?

I've stayed off news sites so no idea what's going on (much like the government..)

I'm off to stuff my face with chocolates...

I really love this period. I'm off work until the 5th, I have my tribe with me and very few plans so if things come up, I'm available. Meeting up outdoors on Friday with one of my oldest friends, doing some baking, just relaxing.

We did have a massive blow up with foster son's mother - it's incredibly tough on him. She's very unwell at the moment, but she's also behaving very badly. We have both blocked her because we deserve a peaceful family holiday - after that, I doubt things are going to get any better. She won't do anything to improve her mental health, is a vaccine refusenik, constantly expects to be rescued, talks about her son as 'my child' when he's an adult with his own life. It's not going to go away any time soon.

Opal8 · 27/12/2021 12:33

Sounds tough @pointythings
Thank god he's got you!

We have few plans also...meeting friends for dinner on Wednesday then meeting other friends at a EH place for a walk outside. That's pretty much it.

Mums b day on Sunday day so she's coming for lunch.

Tory MPs having their photo taken delivering a food parcel to a food bank is like B&Q hiring Fred West to advertise their new patio range.
