Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

I worked in scientific research establishments for about half my working life, and there were people their who had brains the size of the planet but were utterly clueless about day to day things. I can though remember some of the discussions held before the Referendum, and I recall one retired scientist talking about how he would vote Yes because he knew how much money he got from the EU for various projects. So I suspect how well informed about the EU they were depended on how much procurement they had to do. Finding Research grants was a big problem. Something that Gove, Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Raab, Patel etc, would not have the first clue about and don't have enough gumption to ask about.

Thatcher possibly would - although she worked in a commercial lab.

their=there, I can spell, honest!

TheElementsSong · 23/12/2021 09:21

I'm Confused what that thread is meant to prove anyway. So what if those BeLeavers supposedly have umpteen degrees coming out of their wazoos? How does that compare with (a) the overall number of people of any level of achievement who think Brexit is shite; (b) the actual evidence about Brexit being shite?

I'm reminded of Project Steve en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Steve

Seems the Daily Mail is "getting it ..."

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-10337669/ANDREW-NEIL-quitting-EU-arent-Boris-Johnson-Brexiteers-making-freedom.html

Surely it cannot have been the intention of those who fought so long and hard to take Britain out of the European Union to make Brexit Britain more like Europe.

That would be too ridiculous for words.^

The plan was to strike out in a new and distinctive direction, free of Brussels’s red tape and with an emphasis on entrepreneurial endeavour, less government and lower taxes.

Yet on the eve of tomorrow’s first anniversary of a Brexit trade deal with the EU, Britain has never looked more European.

...

again, the mischievous thing to do would be to insinuate that res ipsos loquitor and Boris and the boiys are secretly remainers thave have hidden it behind a moron-fooling wall of bluster.

Although I am aware that given the current state of the Tory party, it would cause terrible damage.

HannibalHeyes · 23/12/2021 12:11

Well, we have a new metric to measure the success of Brexshit.

And even then I suspect he may be wrong (as he usually is about everything)...

I don't think that is true - there have been people starving to death. Usually though because benefits have been cut, but a prosperous country would be able to pay benefits for the less fortunate ones.

I'm off SM for Christmas now so wishing you all a very Happy Christmas 🎄 and here's hoping 2022 isn't as bad as we fear.

Thank you for all the threads, chat, commiserations, good advice and friendship over the past 5 years 💜

Unfortunately, I think it's going to be an OmniClusterFuck of gargantuan proportions. After all, we knew that Brexshit was going to be bad, but even we didn't think it was going to turn out as bad as it has so far.

But anyway, Merry Christmas, and I hope you and yours all have a lovely and safe time!

An article in which you'll find a comparison between the high-reg EU and the very lax US.

It's the Ghost of Christmas Future for the UK.

borntobequiet · 24/12/2021 06:37

A very Happy Christmas to all in these difficult times, I hope you’re able to enjoy it with your nearest and dearest.

DoctorTwo · 24/12/2021 08:20

I had my booster jab yesterday and I am rough as arseholes this morning. I'm glad I had it as a few people I follow on Twitter have posted photos of them in hospital wearing CPAP masks. Nobody wants to go there, do they?

pointythings · 24/12/2021 08:37

DoctorTwo my kids had theirs Wednesday and were very rough yesterday, but it started to ease off by evening so your timing should be fine for Christmas.

Here's wishing all the stalwarts on these threads a peaceful and happy Christmas.

DGRossetti · 24/12/2021 10:02

Merry Christmas all - DGR has to look for another job in the New Year so may be back to posting more often ...

Just for anecdata DW and I have had 8 jabs between us this year with the only effect being it felt like someone had shoved a needle into our arms. And an occasional twinge on the other arm exactly mirroring where the jab was.

Peregrina · 24/12/2021 10:45

Liz Truss now wants to bring back pint bottles of Champagne

Does she not realise that Champagne comes from France? Good luck with persuading them to make pint bottles especially for the UK.

borntobequiet · 24/12/2021 10:53

Liz Truss gets more batshit by the day.

DGRossetti · 24/12/2021 11:12

@borntobequiet

Liz Truss gets more batshit by the day.
Not at all - it's a fucking genius move. After all she knows she has fuck all chance of achieving a single thing of real note. So the next best thing is to invent some sort of sideshow and declare it a triumph.

However one thing we do know as fact is that Brexiteers really can't hear themselves and have zero self awareness. So it may just be she is that dim.

DuncinToffee · 24/12/2021 12:16

I hope you feel better soon DoctorTwo and sorry to hear about your job DGR

Just got ANOTHER notification that my kids' Christmas presents from family have been stopped by customs and will be returned to the UK unless I provide the invoice/receipt/verified photo of me with Baby Jesus himself.

Happy bloody brexit Christmas everyone.
