Hi,

Longtime lurker and poster (under various nn) on Westminstenders and these threads.

I'm afraid the other thread op pissed me off a lot so here's another option for those of us that want one.

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and good luck for 2022.

Also around 100 Tory MPs rejected Covid passes as too authoritarian, even though you can show the results of a free lateral flow test, but are absolutely OK with banning protests, removing citizenship without notice, and disenfranchising millions of people with voter ID.

Peregrina · 15/12/2021 12:46

Harriet - I thought that too: civil liberties are a must for them, but it's OK to deprive others without a second thought.

As far as the Covid passes are concerned, I don't think this should have been a party political issue - there should have been a free vote, with the MPs hearing the facts, as far as we know them, and then deciding for themselves what would be the best approach.

At the moment there seems to be nowhere in the world which has really cracked it.

Looks like Priti Patels big idea is to force EU nationals to re-apply for settled status again and again

www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/priti-patels-new-rule-could-leave-2-3-million-eu-citizens-facing-deportation-304994/

Clearly not enough fucked off home the first time, so the message needs to be reinforced.

While everyone was focused on the furore surrounding the Covid debate yesterday, the w----rs were endeavouring to make it even more difficult for Afghans to reach the UK.

I thought that too - no to COVID passes but enthusiastic yes to voter ID to prevent vanishingly rare voter fraud.

Apparently, to get access to some places like cinemas and theatres they will also be asking for further proof. They're calling them 'tickets'. Authoritarian, it's just going too far now. Next they'll be requiring us to have some form of paperwork to pass through ports if we want to travel overseas. Not sure what they'll call them though.

I thought the rebellion was more about BJ's leadership? these people don't care about vaccine passports, they would never need them.
Peregrina · 15/12/2021 22:27

Rees-Mogg assured them that they were safe from Covid because they were one big happy family, so he should know.

Some truth in this, I fear

Sorry all my posts are this lightweight

I appreciate the lightweight posts Smile

Got my booster this morning, steady flow of people but it was bookings only so it all went quick.

Opal8 · 16/12/2021 12:40

Ds1 got his booster today. No massive queues, no 15 minute wait from today.

Mum has been referred for urodynamics testing. Potentially 12 months + wait.

The Omicron stats seem pretty scary...if my maths are correct

I'm going to facilitate transport so my kids can all get boostered - they're going to coordinate it so we can do it all in one run, with any luck.

That Daily Mash article is scarily on point, although very funny.

Ds1 was going to drive himself but he'd have had to wait 15 mins 🙄

He had moderna

Now deleted tweet from Joy Morrissey (PPS to the former Foreign Secretary and now Justice Sec and DPM Dominic Raab)

I saw this before it got deleted and Frost was mentioned a lot in the replies.

I was advised to still wait 15 minutes with the Pfizer because my previous jabs were AZ

I also got my booster this morning but despite getting there half an hour early, dh and I still had to queue for an hour and half (even though it was appointments only). Zig zag queues beyond the barriers and winding around the car park and then more zigzags inside. It's a big vaccination centre though, so they had a double whammy of both probably having been a bit over optimistic about the numbers that could be done and being a couple of vaccinators down Sad

My dad is desperately trying to bring his travel plans forward to tomorrow: he was due to fly on Tuesday to France to spend Christmas with my brother. He'd been having some health investigations going on and had been waiting for the results of them before booking (got the all clear yesterday and booked straight away) - but then this morning's announcement threw it all up in the air. Sad

Not impossible, but if he's returning to France after, that might be trickier depending on his status. If he has French citizenship or is married to a French national, he can travel to France from the UK. Not otherwise unless he falls into certain categories:

I can translate bits if need be.

My Christmas has just been shot to pieces by a mixture of Covid restrictions and SNCF strikes. Going to drive 800km on Sat to meet my DSis, but her partner is trapped in the UK...
