I hardly think that my observation that British citizens who were deported happened to be black is racism on my part. It strongly looks like racism on the part of the Home Office. However since they will probably also start deporting EU citizens with abandon, they will be able to acquit themselves of the charge.

I'm sorry to see LQ leave, she had an interesting perspective.

Everyone's gardens and plants look lovely.

Let's hope they can speed up the vaccine rollout for under 40s. I'm guessing they will have to try and rollout to children at some point (after clinical trials), otherwise it will spread through schools and increasing the risk of new variants. They are going to use Pfizer for teenagers in the US and Canada.

I cant name one benefit of brexit so I'm taking my ball home. Beyond pathetic

wewereliars · 24/05/2021 12:17

This is Brexit in a nutshell. Lost the argument so shut it down

AuldAlliance · 24/05/2021 12:22

wewereliars, I have not taken my ball anywhere. I am still here.
I don't think I, or anybody else who supports Brexit has lost an argument. The vast majority of British people support Brexit now and this Government. Have you forgotten the last election results and recent polling.

Er, no I didn't.

@MNHQ

care to explain ?

jasjas1973 · 24/05/2021 13:24

@yellowspanner

Jasjas, you deport them back to Syria or Somalia by plane.
Neither country is under any obligation to accept them back.

Just as Bangladesh refused to accept back Shamima Begum as one of their own after the UK refused to accept her back too, stripping her of her uk citizenship.

What about EU countries who refuse to accept back illegals? We no longer have any agreements to enable this.

Peregrina · 24/05/2021 13:24

Have you forgotten Tory losses in recent local elections in southern England? E.g. in Oxfordshire and Surrey? 14 seats lost in Surrey! It hardly bears out the statement that most people have got behind Brexit.

HarrietPierce · 24/05/2021 13:24

But why do you support Brexit Yellowspanner ? The only reason you seem to have given so far is that Priti Patel may find it easier to deport people that you/she consider illegal.

Jason118 · 24/05/2021 13:25

See how easy the reality of history is altered to suit the distorted world view. 52% is not a vast majority it's 4%, and that's of the people who voted, not the population as a whole. The current government was elected with a minority of the population voting for it.

Peregrina · 24/05/2021 13:32

I really look gorward to a Scottish Independence vote getting significantly more than 52% and Johnson and the Brexiters getting their knickers in a twist to explain why that is not overwhelming and doesnt reflect a majority opinion.

Thats not true, support for the Tory party, based on a very successful vaccine rollout, doesn't mean support for Brexit.

FPTP completely distorts democracy - whoever wins, you can never claim that the majority voted for them. Most recent polling that I could find has 46% saying it was right to leave vs 43% saying it was wrong - calling that an overwhelming majority suggests that some improvement in English comprehension may be needed.

yellowspanner · 24/05/2021 13:41

I mentioned the last election, not the referendum in 2016.
At the elections in May this year the conservatives won a lot of council seats overall and the by election.
I realise they lost seats and failed to win others, but overall it was a massive achievement for a governing party that has been in power for so long.

Why do I support Brexit...lots of reasons which I have stated on these threads many times.
I don't think the ECJ should have any say whatsoever in the UK
I don't agree with freedom of movement being restricted to European countries.
I like the positives...our new immigration system, control of how we spend all of our money, the ability to make our own laws without having to check what Brussels thinks. 🇬🇧 And lots more.
I now expect nasty name calling and insults because that's what always happens.😄

yellowspanner · 24/05/2021 13:43

pointythings, I was referring to political polling not Brexit polls. I haven't looked at them as it seems pointless now we have left.

yellowspanner · 24/05/2021 13:45

Wewereliars, I am sorry if you feel a post of mine attacks you. That was certainly not my intention. I was replying to your comment about taking the ball home.

Not sure that you can directly equate voting Tory with supporting Brexit, especially anything post 31/1/21 when (allegedly) “Brexit was done”.

jasjas1973 · 24/05/2021 13:49

Changing your tune to suit the facts now? you stated Brexit has overwhelming public support and stated recent polling proves that.

In fact around half the voting public think we were wrong to leave the EU... that is not "pointless" at all
As for your reasons to leave.... no point going around in circles but i do like your "lots of other things too"

Maybe tell that to my CEO exporting friend......

pointythings · 24/05/2021 13:50

pointythings, I was referring to political polling not Brexit polls.

Now I'm confused. The poll I referenced above specifically asked about Brexit (as of April 2021). You're saying that doesn't count? Are you saying that party political opinion polls as in intention to vote are the only thing that counts? Because that would mean you're saying that intending to vote Tory means you are automatically in favour of Brexit. There are plenty of Tory voters who do not support Brexit and think it was a bad idea, but will vote Tory for other reasons.

And as I've said before, election results in the UK are massively skewed by the FPTP system.
