@yellowspanner

JasJas, I have answered your point about immigrants who cross the channel. Refugees should be welcomed. Economic migrants deported to their country of origin. Again, not sure how I can make this clearer.
...and i asked you when you said this earlier, how do you return a failed asylum seeker to either a place to dangerous to fly too or where there are no travel documents?

Regardless of what Clavinova says, the UK had a means to return people to the first safe EU country they came too, the fact the HO messed this up is another matter.

jasjas1973 · 07/06/2021 19:57

As to the ECJ. It has no business, as an organisation, being the final court of justice for the UK
I don't see how I can be clearer

Yes we all know this... you are clear but why?

We agreed to the ECJ having limited supremacy, just as we have to say WTO, NATO, UN, ECHR

You only have an issue with the ECJ ?

EU not needed: Germany, France and Italy vying for post-Brexit deals with UK.

The EU’s three biggest countries – France, Italy and Germany – have started negotiations with the UK aimed at striking bilateral post-Brexit security and intelligence agreements.

Discussions are taking place at ambassadorial and ministerial level, focusing on defence cooperation and intelligence sharing, according to multiple news reports in Germany and France, as well.

The bilateral talks follow the UK’s stance it is not interested in closer security ties with the EU as a whole.

Their current practice test asks "Who is Queen Elizabeth married too?

Whose practice tests are you referring to? lifeintheuktests.co.uk?

Yes the Lifeintheuktests.... i only just scrapped it! just as well or ^Yellow* might have had me deported lol!

Oh as SOVEREIGN countries like the UK has always been.

Clavinova · 07/06/2021 20:12

Looks as though we might copy an idea from France:

20/11/20
A number of countries, especially north-west African nations, are reluctant to issue consular papers for their undocumented nationals in France. These papers are needed for deportation. The problem is particularly acute for irregular migrants on terror watch-lists who are not wanted back in their home countries. To speed up expulsions, France has threatened to reduce visas to the countries in question.

Britain could block visas from countries that refuse to take back failed asylum seekers and criminals in a tit-for-tat plan laid out yesterday by Priti Patel.

The proposal is among a “range of levers” the government is considering to increase the number of illegal migrants sent back.

'Allowed to study or work while cases are reconsidered' isn't a reasonable situation to put people in.

You can't make any plans on that basis. You might not even be able to finish your course of studies.

But you might have friends and relatives who would hear of the poor treatment you received at the hands of the Home Office, and they might decide to try their luck elsewhere. There is no shortage of universities in the US and Canada.

jasjas1973 · 07/06/2021 20:14

Lol Clav... Do you write the headlines for the 'express?

Its ironing the the mess Brexit caused with security and defence.. you know individual EU countries can make bi lateral arrangements, such as France and the UK did on Concorde back in the 60s.

These countries are NATO allies, you seem to try and paint the EU and its member states as the "UK's Enemies"

Maybe do you work for the 'express?

Clavinova · 07/06/2021 20:22

HarrietPierce

Were you hoping the EU would control our security and foreign policy?

Clavinova · 07/06/2021 20:25

I can't see a link to the Express?

That is a possibly the craziest idea you ve posted yet! France will just let as many migrants across the channel as possible.

Issuing threats in international diplomacy rarely works.

The UK needs EU workers, whether the tories likes it or not.

PP really is an idiot.

I have in my fridge a half bottle of Italian mineral water and a few pounds of Irish cheese and butter, plus two boxes of an Irish brand of tea. I bought all these items in a local supermarket and a Walmart.

Perhaps that has more to do with significant Irish and Italian diasporas in the US? Just a thought.

Do you think it's a good thing or a bad thing that Brexit could conceivably result in British employment law taking a different turn, to the detriment of the fight for equal pay and other matters relating to employment, @ Clavinova?

And become more like the US do you mean? Honestly, I don't know how to stick it over there - poor workers' rights, expensive healthcare, chlorinated chicken...

You should plan an escape route - City A.M. yesterday;

I don't think we mean to block visas for French citizens!!

yellowspanner · 07/06/2021 20:45

The UK may need workers but they necessarily have to be from the EU.

jasjas1973 · 07/06/2021 20:45

Thought Trump is also saying he will be re instated as POTUS by August?
He is suffering from early onset.

Got any other lunatics you'd like to quote?

yellowspanner · 07/06/2021 20:52

All people who apply to work here will be treated equally regardless of where they come from. I have no problem with visas as part of a trade deal. That is normal. It is complete visa free movement of labour from a clutch of countries, but not others, that I consider unfair.

And I am confident our Home Secretary and Home Office will find a way of deporting illegal immigrants whilst welcoming refugees and asylum seekers.

HannibalHayeski · 07/06/2021 20:53

Oh Yellow, you are a card!

Going to answer what i asked you re ECJ ?

If not, i for one will now use the scroll function on my laptop.

Wrt to immigration from outside the EU, anybody else feel discomfort at encouraging doctors/nurses etc, trained at huge expense in their own (perhaps developing) countries, to come here, when they’re needed at home? Thereby releasing our government from the massive cost of training them? It feels somehow wrong to me...

Yes, but Don't They Know Who We Are?

They should be gladly sacrificing all their health staff for the glory of the Empire of Little England...

I look forward to welcoming our friends from Mars once we get round to sorting reciprocal agreements. First the Trans Pacific Partnership - next the Solar System! Anyone who calls this far-fetched isn’t fit to be a Brit.
Peregrina · 07/06/2021 21:43

I fully agree Hester, but we have always done that with the NHS - once it was Commonwealth citizens we poached - primarily from the Indian sub-contintent or sub Saharan Africa. Both geographical areas where the health care provision is still a long way behind that offered in the UK. So I for one welcomed their replacement with EU citizens - countries which with the exception of a couple of eastern EU countries - could afford to send us their medical staff.

But no, we will go back to the old ways. While still treating the individuals concerned like shit.

Looks like I know which passport I'll be using

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/going-to-europe-for-work-its-not-as-easy-as-you-think-dk7rrlp56

When Covid restrictions lift and business travel in Europe resumes, companies are in for a shock. Planning to fly to Greece for a business meeting? Better triple-check you’re still welcome. Your host is now expected to pay a €500 fee to the Greek government for the privilege of hearing your sales pitch. Visiting Brussels for a conversation with European Union officials? Better be carrying a sworn statement from your employer setting out how you have complied with border rules. Stopping off in Sofia, the charming capital of Bulgaria? The interior ministry wants to be informed within three days of your arrival, by you directly or the hotel you are staying at.

...

yellowspanner · 07/06/2021 22:09

JasJas, sorry I missed your question. I have scrolled back and found it.
NATO, UN, WTO are not courts. The WTO arbitrates on trade disputes and only trade disputes. I have no problem with the ECHR as it is not linked to the EU and only deals with human rights issues.

yellowspanner · 07/06/2021 22:12

Bornto, there are many countries that workers could come from. No need for Mars. Citizens from the EU can apply to work here on the same basis as citizens from elsewhere.
When you don't like my answer you resort to nastiness...
