Of course as someone who is still an EU citizen, I don't necessarily need to pay too much attention to such stories.

prettybird · 22/05/2021 17:36

Db in France says he already has to do this for his PILs (from a non-European country) but fortunately the mayor is a neighbour so it's never an issue. It adds to the cost of any visit though Sad

He finished by saying Boris is such a loathsome wee shyte Angry (In the interests of full disclosure, he moved to France shortly after the Brexit vote, while he still had the option his kids were young so he still had that flexibility )

It also made me ponder how a "road trip" through France would now work Confused: where you follow your nose and then find a nice place wherever you end up. Dh and I have fond memories of taking our time to travel to Italy (where we'd booked a villa) and finding a fabulous wee hotel in Fixin (Burgundy) after seeing a sign for it on a roundabout. It was all the better for being spontaneous and the meal there was also incredible. If we'd been forced to book in advance, it would've been a characterless F1 just off the autoroute Sad

prettybird · 22/05/2021 17:41

@AuldAlliance - those are our neighbours' poles Smile. I took our two down (and instead put up a whirligig when I do a washing) when we built the raised beds, which meant the traditional drying green (mostly on our half) had to go. One of the poles is hidden in amongst the greenery of the border on the left and the other one is about to be put up close to it (and both painted to match the rose arch) and I have a wire frame to put up between them for the sweet peas that are waiting patiently to be planted Grin
@mrslaughan On a completely unrelated topic.... anybody heard from LQ?

I'm in touch with her. She was blocked because of some (non-Brexit related) posts and won't be back Sad She's well though - and enjoying her extra free time Wink
Ohh I wondered where she'd gone to. She was particularly knowledgeable on transport and many other Brexit related issues. I've really taken comfort from these threads over the past year or so. Not feeling so alone when thinking what is the matter with people and they're stubborn determination to defend the indefensible?! But it's hard not to be discouraged. I was sorry when Big Choc left, and I'm sorry to hear that LQ was banned (so many women being told to just stfu) and will not be back, and I'm getting weary of the endless squirrelling.

DGRossetti · 22/05/2021 18:57

The irony of a country as "united" as the UK trying to drive wedges in the EU wouldn't even fit on the side of a (foreign, naturally) bus factory, let alone bus.

Paralithic · 22/05/2021 19:21

Seem to remember that LQ had attracted the attention of trolls a while back as well that had caused trouble?

I guess some people don’t like forthright women.

Yy Dr Blackbird beautifully put, must admit the squirrels are extremely tiresome & they depress me no end.

That's what incentivises me to continue to post - and even when tempted, not to rise to the bait of trolls. I might get a bit passive aggressive at times Wink

I prefer to ignore those that contribute nothing constructive.

As far as I am aware, I've never been deleted Halo. Well, I was once but it turns out that MNHQ (or whoever had reported it) had misinterpreted an obvious typo and when I queried it, the post was reinstated Smile

prettybird · 22/05/2021 20:01

I've enjoyed getting to "know" LQ outwith MN - and one day we'll actually meet up in real life Smile

She's an interesting woman. We don't agree on all topics but I respect her opinions Thanks

I would say let’s leave #Eurovision and have a solely British competition, but we’d probably still lose it.

Coincidence: the UK got exactly the same number of votes in Eurovision as the number of benefits from Brexit

I’m enjoying this Eurovision thread (apologies to fans)

If anyone wants to stay in touch with LQ, PM me and I've been given permission to pass on a way you can find her. Smile

Engerland would whine if Scotland won. Didn't they have a joint winner one with Lulu's entry ?

KonTikki · 23/05/2021 09:05

A big thank you to the Spanish Premier who has reinstated my summer in Spain.
No prior testing, no vaccine certs, (though I have had both jabs), and a thoroughly open commonsense approach.
Pity the same can't be said about France / Germany !

jasjas1973 · 23/05/2021 09:17

Papers & TV full of Harry/BBC/Diana and almost nothing about Cummings and his allegations on Hancock and Johnsons wish to pursue Herd Immunity. or Bojo writing a book on Wilberforce instead of attending Cobr meetings.

In fact Eurovision getting more coverage.

Thank God for an unbiased media, no wonder Labour are so far ahead in the polls......

Peregrina · 23/05/2021 10:21

The problem with any Cumming's revelations is that he was hated anyway, so even if his revelations are true, it won't damage Johnson.

Trying to plan travel to the UK is a bundle of laughs. The cost of PCR tests is eye-watering, never mind what the rules are/might be at any given time, and as for a traffic light system where the amber list means "feck knows"...

I'm not hoping for a holiday, but to see my parents for the first time in 2 years and help them make necessary life changes, given their increasing decrepitude.

No thank yous for a prime minister who let 10 000 travellers in from India in the space of a few weeks, despite awareness of the variant.

DGRossetti · 23/05/2021 10:40

Anyone who thought the English Aristocracy does not in any way see itself as separate to the Great Unwashed doesn't really need to read much to learn the truth ...

www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/19318412.earl-withdraws-appeal-driving-ban-judges-warning/

An earl who couldn’t afford to insure his Lexus expressed his disbelief that a court could “offer its verdict before the case started”.

...

anyone remember Eric Pickles being demolished by Dimbleby trying to justify why MPs needed second homes when the rest of the public could Go Fuck Themselves ?

Pickles: But with MPs, you see, well we have to be certain places at certain times ... maybe when public transport isn't running

Dimbleby: You mean "a job" ?

prettybird · 23/05/2021 10:45

If he can afford a Lexus but not the insurance Hmm why doesn't he downgrade the car to something less costly - which would also cost less to insure? Confused

Because he has absolute no concept of the law applying to him. No one taught it to him because no one in his circle believed it either.

Not much has changed since his ancestor sent the five hundred to their doom, really.

Imagine if he was able to influence the law in some way ?

Yes, he’s hated by everyone, left and right, Johnson cronies and Johnson disparagers, people with rational views on Covid and Covid deniers, anyone with any position on anything including appropriate clothing. So can be dismissed by all.
DoubleTweenQueen · 23/05/2021 11:59

We knew at the time herd immunity was initial intention. It's nothing new
