Westminstenders: a feature of the system not a bug

Tests on the new queuing system in Kent have revealed that lengthy tail backs are a feature not a bug.

We should get used to them because thats normal not the system malfunctioning, but the planned system working as designed.

Today we have found out that there's no money left. The economy is fucked. And tomorrow we will probably all be in T3 with the Isles of Wight, the tip of Cornwall and inner Westminster the only places left in T1.

Christmas has apparently been 'saved' though. Well if you are dumb and lacking in functional brain cells its 'saved'. Trade for Christmas is already thoroughly goosed and indoor family gatherings may come with a extra side of covid. The BBC have done an epic job of 'doommongering project fear' style graphics on this wonderful subject.

Tis the season to be jolly. Jolly fucked.

Maybe more stockpiling would be a good idea. Can't quite imagine what's about to hit us. No guidance from the government to Jo Public.

Saffronesque · 27/11/2020 20:51

but the UK has cheap food because the supermarkets drive VERY hard bargains.

In my recent experience, the only food that is cheap in the US & Canada is the stuff I wouldn't eat, partly as a vegetarian.

Groceries are very expensive, at least twice in $ what we pay in £. Often more.

DrBlackbird · 27/11/2020 22:14

I'm always shocked by how cheap food is here in the UK. When I go back to Canada, I (semi) jokingly accept that every item in the shopping basket will be $5... a loaf of bread, a carton of milk.

On the other hand, salaries are twice or sometimes three times there than here for similar jobs eg nursing, teachers etc. Salaries can stay low here because some cost of living has remained low. It won't be pleasant for those on low salaries suddenly finding its buying even less.

Depressing about Brexit talks.

So typical that the UK government expects students from the EU who have delayed starting uni here due to Covid to pop over for a day or 2 in the next month to avoid (even worse) immigration problems.
So much for their concern about the environment, health, the reputation of UK universities and of the UK in general.
Not sure how much of it is a hatred of foreigners, and how much of it is just the fun of being able to exercise your power to bully people.
A bit like their attitude to UK business in general. There is no limit to what business is supposed to be prepared to do due to Brexit. But government ministers and MPs are generally lazy, responsibility-shifting fuckers.

DrBlackbird · 28/11/2020 11:01

just the fun of being able to exercise your power to bully people

This applies to just about every decision ever made about Brexit. The ostensible arguments put forth by ERG / Hard core Brexiteers (and I'm referring here to those that lead not follow) are spurious. Leaving has nothing to do with the UK's sovereignty. It's just the smokescreen that hides the truth of Brexit, which is simply that we are leaving with all its associated damage because of these admittedly clever, but nevertheless toddler/men with their insecure outsized ego's.

This has happened a lot throughout history...

DGRossetti · 28/11/2020 12:16

Anyone up for this ?

TheElementsOfMedical · 28/11/2020 12:44

@DGRossetti

Anyone up for this ?
Oh, I like that.
Peregrina · 28/11/2020 13:01

Yes, good idea. There needs to be a campaign organised for it.

pussycatinboots · 28/11/2020 13:05

DGR Count me in.

ListeningQuietly · 28/11/2020 13:12

Definitely up for that.

KonTikki · 28/11/2020 13:41

Me too, excellent idea 😄

pointythings · 28/11/2020 13:45

I am 100% in and would also be absolutely truthful!

prettybird · 28/11/2020 14:42

Although I'd probably put in Scottish Wink, whenever there is a question about ethnicity , I always answer "Other - European" as I'm a mongrel and proud of it mix of German, Danish, Swedish, French (Huguenot), Irish, English and only recently discovered an itsy bitsy bit of Scottish Grin There's probably some Dutch in me too, given the generations in South Africa Wink

ListeningQuietly · 28/11/2020 15:17

I know I go on about it all the time
BUT
When the C88 SAD (Single administrative document) was introduced
(it replaced each country's own manual forms)
there was a three month parallel run with the old manual C16 and the new C88 - to make ABSOLUTELY sure that the new systems would be seamless from the first moment.

That was in 1988
when telex machines were first being supplanted by fax
when the computers were mainframes and orange screen dumb terminals

if its done right (millennium bug) it runs smoothly
if its done wrong ....
well we may be about to find out Sad

bellinisurge · 28/11/2020 16:58

Absolutely going to write EUROPEAN.

I hope there's no fucking " what gender do you identify as" rather than "Sex"

pussycatinboots · 28/11/2020 17:12

@bellinisurge

Absolutely going to write EUROPEAN.

I hope there's no fucking " what gender do you identify as" rather than "Sex"

the 2011 census had Sex - Male or Female there's a PDF on the ONS website - I'd forgotten how bloody nosey the form was.
pussycatinboots · 28/11/2020 17:14

And the question about nationality was Q15.

pussycatinboots · 28/11/2020 17:18

Q18 is interesting - What is your main language?
Will politicians fill in "Bollocks" ?
Can I fill in "Northern" ? 😉

Nadim Zahawi made Minister of Vaccine Rollout (despite Mancock telling us all just last week it was his job).

Expect plenty of unintelligible word salads and arm waving.

borntobequiet · 28/11/2020 23:06

Zahawi used to be my MP. He’s not a very nice person IMO. Anyway, I just Googled him and on the .gov page about his new appointment it said Responsibilities, so I clicked on that. Nothing except the job title. Maybe they haven’t decided yet. Even holders of minimum wage jobs get given a list of their responsibilities, but the Minister for Vaccine Deployment? Nah, why bother.
