Westminstenders: Going, going, cummings

As expected he's fucking off and leaving everyone else to pick up the pieces in January. But it does look like he was eventually shown the door and left with a cardboard box. As he should have been months ago.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with Johnson needing an image change, like the shape shifting creep he is, to one that fits more with the incoming Biden Administration. In other words hes got some serious sucking up to do...

... Meanwhile in Brexit land we are going into yet another final week of talks.

Many expect Cummings departure to signal 'the cave in'. The Eu say we havent moved enough and the uk say the EU wants us to do all the moving... Except the EU have done lots of moving. Barnier is still looking for a groundsman to level his field to play. We have yet to work out we aren't Canada and distance is important to trade.

Of course if we don't get a deal, that Pfizer vaccine in Germany that we want, might be hit with delays and extra costs we just can't afford.

Wish it had been more of a decisive Kinnock/Hatton moment.
Corbyn brought Hatton back into the Labour party after all ...

Zixxy · 17/11/2020 21:03

Better inside the tent maybe.

Yes!

Now I'm remembering that Hatton used to be called Degsy by some which is making me irrationally 🤬

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to give JRM a Twitter pasting instead

DrBlackbird · 18/11/2020 00:10

I mean, which country in the world would needlessly impoverish it's own country??

You forgot the last bit of the sentence... "...apart from the UK"

tobee · 18/11/2020 00:51

2020 has turned out to be the best year to do it

tobee · 18/11/2020 00:55

And they've got themselves into a situation where trying to delay it, pull back from the brink, whatever is not possible. They've sold it and sold it as exactly what they've always intended, the sunlit uplands, the elected government "of the people", purging moderates and experienced individuals as they've rushed to the cliff age, champagne corks popping, party hats on.

tobee · 18/11/2020 00:56

*cliff edge

No, it’s Grease-Smug getting a Twitter pasting for being a sanctimonious blowhard.

TheElementsOfMedical · 18/11/2020 09:09

OK, own up - which one of you NCed and started the food shortage thread in AIBU? Grin

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 09:48

😂😂😂@TheElementsOfMedical not me. I'm as sweary and po-faced as ever with my own username.

Not I. If it were then I would not be able to resist asking all the posters expressing faux surprise at how shot things have gone what planet they have been on these past few years.

However, it's interesting the lack of "Oh ffs this should be in the Brexit forum" posts that used to jam up such threads in the past.

DGRossetti · 18/11/2020 09:53

@mrslaughan

DGR - I don't think I saw anyone answering your question about why the fishing industry is all of a sudden standing up and saying , the governments plans are going to destroy the industry?..... as I understand it , the plan for shipping goods to the EU involve you lodging your paperwork 48hrs (at least before shipping) . Unfortunately as the vast majority of our product is live or fresh. If it's not caught, you can't do a manifest - and fish stored for 48hours - well as you can imagine it's an issue. Apparently Scottish fisherman are looking at Registering their boats in Ireland to circumvent this......I am not sure if that will work.

It's not like we haven't been yelling about things like this......

I have been busy all day , but just looked at Twitter and am amused to see that Johnson's comments with regards to devolution has made Wales see independence as the way forward.
I mean I knew he would be a disaster, but he really has surpassed even my expectations of completely fucking it up.....

Many thanks for that starts to make sense.
DGRossetti · 18/11/2020 09:54

Returning to my interest in the harm Brexit does the US. I wonder if no-deal is more harmful than a deal ? Just to add to the pressures circling in on Boris.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 09:56

@DGRossetti "not I". 😂😂😂😂😂

pointythings · 18/11/2020 09:59

Not me either. Just sitting back, snacking on popcorn and seeing how many of the 'Project Fear' brigade are still there. It's a surprising number, but they sound a bit flat.

?

Admittedly I quoted the wrong post in reply.

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 10:16

I love having my grammar corrected. I'm so much an up-my-arse grammar bitch, it's hilarious when I get caught out.
I salute you.

Er, I wasn't trying to correct any grammar. I was just responding to the suggestion that it was a regular poster here starting the AIBU thread by writing what I would say IRL:

"Not I".

Anything else is totally coincidental and unintended. As I've said. I'm really not that bright. (I also try very hard not to get to up my own arse over spelling/grammar in internet debates, and am losing patience with those that do. But that's another matter ...)

bellinisurge · 18/11/2020 10:24

Seriously, DG. No offence taken.

Must try harder Grin
TheElementsOfMedical · 18/11/2020 10:31

I thought "Not I" was a reference to the classic Little Red Hen fairy tale - I say it all the time, particularly when there's some kind of shitshow which I wasn't involved in (and possibly warned against)... Hmm like Brexit, come to think of it.

I salute @bellinisurge and others for wading into that thread. I was going to nip in and resurrect the Brexitannian Dictionary, but the low ratio of ill-informed self-identified-victimhood "fiiiiiiiiiine" posts indicates that the reality-based community is in the majority on there anyway.
