Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

I see our own petulant toddler in number 10 didn't have a statement ready to congratulate Jo Biden...

mrslaughan · 07/11/2020 17:49

@RedToothBrush

Just think Trump has even had his golf ruined today!
That brought a huge smile to my face....
RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 17:51

DGR is that why we've not heard from Johnson because he's listening to lift music whilst on hold?

My New York informant is very relieved.
My Channel Ports informant hopes that sanity will now prevail over Brexit.

Me, I opened the fizzy wine and have finished it Grin

DH posted something derogatory about the UK Government's handling of Covid on our local FB page.
A week or so, the Conservative Admins would have immediately deleted it.
Today, it's left to stand and people are supporting it.

This election hasn't just defeated Trump.

Ok: I believe it now .... Grin

I'm still starting to grasp the implications of an administration that has determined that Brexit is not in the US interests. Seismic doesn't begin to describe it.

pollyannaperspective · 07/11/2020 17:56

BBC just reporting brief statement from Johnson.

Yup.
In the next few days we'll start to see Biden's transition team.
Farage and Johnson ain't gonna like it
Ha fucking Ha

mrslaughan · 07/11/2020 18:05

Yes - CNN just read out his very brief statement

TheElementsOfMedical · 07/11/2020 18:20

Just... relief... (and Wine)...

Shrillharridan · 07/11/2020 18:21

Well well well...

mrslaughan · 07/11/2020 18:23

I am not sure if this has been covered here, but this is an image that Tory MP's have been sharing on Twitter. I honestly think most Tory MP's are too far down the rabbit hole, too indoctrinated, too arrogant.....
I don't think they will easily change course on Brexit or Covid - I really hope I am wrong.

Peregrina · 07/11/2020 18:28

Pathetic, given how in hoc Cummings and Trump are or were to Russia/Putin.

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 18:39

Johnson has now congratulated.

And climate change now seems to have shot up the British international agenda...

We are hosting the UN Climate Change Conference in 2021.

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/11/2020 18:50

This is the beginning of the end for Johnson

He would probably wear that outfit given half a chance. Grin

Peregrina · 07/11/2020 18:54

It will be interesting to see what happens now. Trump was going to pull the US out of the WHO - I don't know if that it had happened? If not, this might be quietly forgotten.

Similarly the WTO was no longer quorate - will Biden be sorting this out?

How nice to see the back of the ghastly extended Trump family - for now at least - although as said, they could come back in four year's time.

wewereliars · 07/11/2020 18:59

Thank God and thanks to the wise and knowledgeable heads on these threads. A huge comfort in these crazy times Wine Wine

Whenwillow · 07/11/2020 19:08

How much power does he have before he leaves office?

RedToothBrush · 07/11/2020 19:08

Hmm...

Interesting. Wonder how long ago this was set up?

Just had a great conversation with the Prime Minister, now is the time for collaboration

Well that's a relief. It's nice to have a grown up in charge, even if he has a long, uphill climb towards making the US culturally functional again. I hope the GOP looks to a Mitt Romney type rather than a Lindsay Graham for future leadership.

And now for us. We are not going to be very prominent on the US's radar, as we're no longer their handy English-speaking ally and policy representative on the inside of the EU. That's going to take a while to sink in, I suspect.

Clavinova · 07/11/2020 19:09

Similarly the WTO was no longer quorate - will Biden be sorting this out?

"Even if Biden stands for a stronger multilateralism, his ‘Buy American’ provisions for public procurement violate WTO rules. Thus, a Biden administration has no incentive to return quickly to business as usual, but rather to reform the WTO, which will be a difficult and lengthy undertaking."
