I knew this was on the cards but now feel really sick.
Do you think he's bluffing to make the EU blink or is this it?

OP posts:
NellyJames · 16/10/2020 12:57

So the ‘oven ready deal’ was only oven ready if the EU did whatever Johnson’s lot wanted them to do?
Sadly, I don’t think he’s bluffing but he’s doing a good job of appealing to his base support by pretending we’ve been oh so reasonable but the nasty EU are trying to spite us.

BigFatLiar · 16/10/2020 13:01

I think its always been on the cards.

Its what 'we' voted for, bring on the chlorinated chicken, growth hormone beef and GM foods.

SqidgeBum · 16/10/2020 13:03

No. He isnt bluffing. This has been clearly coming for a long time. The EU are huge, and wont suffer because of a no deal more than the UK will.

However, the 'Britain is Great' crowd will love this. Apparently we dont need anyone else, they need us ...... ye ..... sure.

nibdedibble · 16/10/2020 13:08

Suspect it’s all posturing as it has been since what feels like the very beginning of time.

God I hate all of them

ListeningQuietly · 16/10/2020 14:32

The EU set out their position in 2016

the UK have yet to read it

StephenBelafonte · 16/10/2020 14:34

There was never going to be a deal. The EU didn't want us to leave so no matter what we suggested they were just going to say no. I think Boris understands this and in a way I kind of admire him for not even bothering to negotiate with them, which he hasnt

I never understood why he wanted to be the PM. Talk about a poisoned chalice.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2020 14:37

I predict a massive climb down characterised as a great victory. Then endless tedious bullshit once the trade deal is done which no one will pay attention to but will make some "Up Yours Delors" type headlines for the next 50 years when we relive past fake glories to sell papers.
Or not. Either way, fuck 'em.

whyamidoingthistomyslef · 16/10/2020 14:40

He can't negotiate a deal with the EU, he can't get covid under control, yet he thinks we believe he will be able to negotiate great deals elsewhere...ha ha

Could it be he wants the NHS to buckle under COVID so he can give a sweetener to the USA?

ANoTail · 16/10/2020 14:43

There was never going to be a deal.
Johnson hasn't failed to get us a deal with the EU. He has succeeded in not getting one. Which is what he wanted.
People are being much too generous when they call him incompetent. It gives the impression that he's at least trying to do the best for people and just can't quite manage it. And that has never been the case.

Frazzled2207 · 16/10/2020 14:49

He’s upping the pressure but as it stands talks are continuing so he’a bumbling out rhetoric as opposed to fact

Selmaselma · 16/10/2020 14:54

But didn't he say it would be very easy to make a deal?

zoemum2006 · 16/10/2020 14:54

I think it comes down to who wins the US election. If Biden they’ll we’ll do a proper deal with the EU.

If Trump then nothing deal’.

Of course no deal is only temporary as there will have to be a deal eventually but there’s money to be made in the meantime.

zoemum2006 · 16/10/2020 14:55

Then...

And ‘no deal’

Stupid fingers

KooKooKachu · 16/10/2020 15:05

I doubt he is bluffing. I think Ireland will be fucked royally.

pontypridd · 16/10/2020 15:07

He's not bluffing. This was always going to happen. It's what the government (or Boris and his mates) wants - I have no idea why.

They're trying to paint it as being the EU's fault. But it's always been their end game.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/10/2020 15:09

This was always what he wanted, isn’t it? Brings to mind the expression : Lies, damn lies and politics.

Boredbumhead · 16/10/2020 15:10

This is the plan. A hard brexit. Disaster capitalist mates like JRM win. Its all about deregulation.

pontypridd · 16/10/2020 15:18

How is it that they benefit @Boredbumhead? I love your name.

I've always wanted to understand. Probably will make me depressed again now. But if anyone could explain - please could they/you?

stickygotstuck · 16/10/2020 15:22

Amen to this.
CrunchyNutNC · 16/10/2020 15:24

Surprise surprise we can't stop paying our club membership fees, but still get to use the club facilities.

Worst is that everything brexit-related will be blamed on covid, wait and see.

Yup that is correct.

Cheers Boris you absolute fool now we are all well and truly fecked

bellinisurge · 16/10/2020 15:32

KooKooKachu - but with 26 mates. We will have no one.

CrunchyNutNC · 16/10/2020 15:34

@pontypridd

The EU were going to start putting the screws on ultra wealthy people who avoid paying tax.

Being in the EU benefits the ordinary man far more than it does the super rich.

These ultra wealthy people then manipulated voters, playing on their fears about immigrants, and selling a 'control our own destiny' story to get them to vote for something which is not in their best interest. They peddled nonsense about leaving but still being able to have all the benefits of EU membership. They did sneaky (illegal) things during the campaign.

We are leaving, the ordinary man in the street will be screwed over, but JRM and rich Tories will avoid having to pay an appropriate amount of tax, so that'll be ok then.

I say this as, previously, a lifelong Tory voter. I am disgusted by the conservatives behaviour during the last 4 years.

Pollynextdoor · 16/10/2020 15:37

Just when you thought that things could not get any worse🤷🏻‍♀️

Toptotoeunicolour · 16/10/2020 15:40

What sickens me as much as anything is that it's all posturing. Behind the scenes I think they have known for months pretty much how it would end up. But both sides have to posture for their audience. Just get on and do the job without all that shite, we really don't need it.
